As the advance of the Aviram Tank Brigade drove down the Bir Gifgafa road, it ran into two battalions of Egyptian T-54's. Outgunned by the heavier Egyptian tanks, the Israelis fought a desperate delaying action until the arrival of a battalion of Centurions.
