ANSWER: Windows has special built-in drivers to support mice. Our software looks for a Microsoft compatible mouse driver which is loaded when you turn on your computer. A diskette should have come with your mouse which contains MOUSE.SYS, MOUSE.COM or similar files. Try placing the command DEVICE = MOUSE.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS file or the command MOUSE.COM in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. These are the files that DOS executes when you turn on your computer, and if your mouse is Microsoft compatible, your mouse should now work. QUESTION: I get the message "Not enough free Conventional Memory" and Wari doesn't run. What can I do? ANSWER: Most people have a computer with at least 640K memory. At the DOS prompt, enter the command CHKDSK and it will likely report that you have "655360 total bytes memory". The last line tells you how many bytes of CONVENTIONAL MEMORY your computer has free. If your computer has less than 528000 bytes free, a program loaded in your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT file is using part of your Conventional memory. DOS 6.0 and 6.2 come with a utility called MEMMAKER which is designed to optimize your computer's memory resources. Enter the command MEMMAKER at the DOS prompt to run this program. If you don't have MEMMAKER, locate a knowledgeable person and ask him/her to help you get these programs out of conventional memory and load them "high". Read the information in MEMORY.TXT for further information. QUESTION: Wari doesn't work with my soundcard. What can I do? ANSWER: Our program accesses the sound card directly. If you have a Soundblaster compatible card that uses different sound chips than the original, your soundcard may not work. Most soundcards have drivers to make them fully soundblaster compatible. For details read your soundcard documentation. If your computer freezes or makes strange noises, run the command WARI /C which will bypass Wari's configuration, resulting in sound being turned off. QUESTION: I get the message "VGA Monitor required." when I try to run Wari. What can I do? ANSWER: Your computer either doesn't have a VGA monitor, or the VGA drivers are incompatible with our software. If you are sure that you have a VGA, enter the command WARI /M from the DOS prompt and hope for the best. This is a special code to bypass our monitor checking routine, and if your computer freezes, there is no way to run Wari from your computer. QUESTION: I don't understand what "shareware" is. Why do I have to order Wari if I already have a copy of it? ANSWER: Because you haven't paid for it. If you "bought" Wari from a shareware vendor, you only paid for the disk, not the actual program. At the opening screen of Wari, press the F2 key. A detailed explanation about the shareware concept will appear for you there. If you discover that you are one of the millions of people who, over the centuries, have gotten addicted to Wari, we have reserved one feature which is available to only registered users: They get to play the Elephant, which is an expert player. You will never know how good you are until you play the Elephant! Thank you for playing Wari! We hope you get hours of enjoyment from our program.
