Using TITCH (You may wish to print this section) 1. Contact Information E-Mail: 100545.2662@compuserve.com The latest version of TITCH can be found in the Compuserve Palmtop Forum and via my home page at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Martin_R_Sturgess/ 2. Overview of Program TITCH is a vector based drawing/mind mapping application for the Psion 3a which gives disk space savings of around 2000% compared with the more usual bitmap (.PIC ) based applications. This is because TITCH stores only the commands to draw objects rather than every pixel on the screen. Using TITCH you can create a graphical interface to your ideas or information. Text can be added horizontally or vertically and buttons placed which will automatically open then search any file created using the built in Psion3a applications. 3. How to Register The Registration fee for TITCH is £12-50 Sterling or $20 US Dollars. Registration removes all nag screens and entitles you to use all future versions of TITCH as a registered user. It also encourages further development of TITCH! Please note that although this version IS fully functional, future versions may have options which are only available to registered users. You may register by sending CASH, CHEQUE or you can use the Compuserve SWREG Facility. Registering via Compuserve --------------------------------- Compuserve users can use the GO SWREG facility to register on-line. Using TITCH HyperLinks ---------- TITCH utilises a powerful hyperlinking system allowing drawings to be linked to other drawings OR files created using the built in Psion Applications. You can even launch .OPO files ( but not applications). Some file types allow the use of search strings in the link. PIC Files --------- Any part of a TITCH drawing can be exported to PIC format to give compatability with other drawing applications. TITCH drawings can also contain links to PIC files. This powerful facility allows you to create a library of small PIC files, any of which can then be displayed within a TITCH drawing. Templates --------- TITCH incorporates a template facility allowing each drawing to display any other drawing in the background. This will be useful if you regularly wish to incorporate a standard logo or table in your drawing. Drawing Grid ------------ TITCH can display a black or grey drawing grid of any size which will assist you when aligning objects or drawing to scale. What TITCH can Draw ------------------- * Lines (thick and thin) * Circles (filled and unfilled) * Boxes (filled, unfilled and patterned) * Text (including vertical text !) * Triangles,Diamonds,Pentagons,Hexagons,Heptagons and Octagons * The contents of any PIC File Remember that you can create your own objects by first drawing them using the built in objects then exporting to a PIC File. Moving between Drawings ----------------------- In addition to the standard Psion way of opening files from the File menu or the System Screen, TITCH drawings can also be opened using Link Buttons that you insert into your drawing. File Menu - Go to Home Page This will open the drawing last opened from the System screen or the last file opened using the Open option from the File menu Moving the Cursor ----------------- Use the arrow keys to move the cursor 10 pixels at a time. To move 1 pixel at a time hold down the PSION key while using the arrow keys. To jump to a specific position use the SCREEN menu and select JUMP TO. Note that immediately after drawing a line the jump position will be the start of the Line. Using the Drawing Grid ---------------------- 1. From the Draw Menu select Display Grid 2. Select the Grid size and colour from the resulting dialogue. Note that the Grid is not written to the TITCH drawing. To remove the Grid select Refresh from the Screen Menu. How to Draw Objects ------------------- 1. First move the cursor to the start position for the object then select the object to be drawn from the Draw menu. 2. Select the object characteristics from the resulting dialogue box. 3. Use the arrow keys to move to the end point of the object. For Lines this will be other end of the line. For Boxes this will be the opposite corner of the box. For Circles and polygons this will set the radius of the object - the original cursor position is the centre of the polygon or circle. 4. Press 5. Large objects will be drawn immediately. For small objects (not Lines) you will be prompted with Move. 6. Use the arrow keys to move the object to it's final position then press . You can press at any time to cancel the object. Inserting Links --------------- Use the LINK facility to create large virtual drawings which consist of individual drawings linked together via link buttons. You can also link to other types of file. 1. Select Link from the Insert Menu. 2. Select a file name and type from the resulting dialogues. 3. Enter search text if you want to jump to a specific part of the file. you can for example jump to a specific record in your address book ( created with the DATA app) by entering some unique text contained in that record. 3. Move the Link button to a suitable position in your drawing and press . Using Links ----------- 1. Press the key. You may need type press first. The first Link button will be highlighted by a flashing cursor. 2. To open the Linked file press or, to move to another Link press the key again. Use the and keys together to reverse the direction in which you move through the objects. Press to cancel if moving between Link buttons using the key. Note that you can also open Links by positioning the cursor over the Links and pressing . When opening a file from one of the built in applications quitting the application should take you back to TITCH. if you wish to keep the application open use to cycle back to TITCH. Note that some file types allow the use of search strings which will allow you to automatically jump to a specific point in the file. Note for JBData Users --------------------- Any dbf files opened by TITCH will use the buily in DATA application. Opening the file in JBData whilst DATA has it open will generate an error. You are advised to install the DATA or RunImg applications so that you have a visible indication that DATA has a file open. Templates Any TITCH drawing can be used as a template for any other TITCH drawing. This powerful facility obviates the need to draw the same series of objects in multiple drawings thus saving disk space. Templates can be added or removed at any time. Note that Templates always appear in the background to a drawing, i.e. all objects are drawn over the template. Templates are not recursive, i.e. any links or templates contained within a template will not be displayed. To add a Link to a Template --------------------------- 1. From the Edit menu select Template. 2. Select "Add Link to Template" from the dialogue box. 3. Select a TITCH drawing from the resulting dialogue box. To remove a Link to a Template ------------------------------ 1. From the Edit menu select Template 2. Select "Remove link to Existing Template". Exporting to a PIC File ----------------------- 1. Place the cursor at the top left of the area to be exported. 2. From the Extract menu select Extract to Pic. 3. Choose if you wish to include the grey plane from the resulting dialogue. 4. Select area with the arrow keys then press . 5. Supply the file name in the resulting dialogue. Importing a Link file --------------------- 1. Move the cursor to the top left of where the Pic file is to appear. 2. from the Insert Menu select Pic File. 3. Select a PIC file from the resulting dialogue. 4. If the PIC File is small you will be prompted with Move. Move the PIC file to it's final position and press . Large PIC Files will be placed immediately without the ability to adjust the final position. Updating Drawings ----------------- 1. Use the diamond key to select which objects you wish to enter. 2. Use the tab key to move between objects. Use the Menu to move objects or to edit text and links. Note that large object information will be prefixed with "*" which will indicate that the object will not be highlighted and is too large to move. Large objects can be deleted. Deleting Objects ---------------- 1. Use the key to step through the objects in reverse chronological order i.e. the last object drawn will be the first object selected. use to move through the file in the opposite direction. 2. To delete the object press or from the Edit menu select Delete Object 4. Press to confirm deletion or to cancel 5. Press to redraw the screen or to move to the next object without redrawing. Moving Objects -------------- 1. Use DIAMOND key to set the edit selection filter. 2. Use the ( or ) key to step through the objects. 3. From the Move Menu select Move Object. 4. Use the Arrow keys to move the Object then press . will cancel the move. Where the TITCH Files are stored -------------------------------- DRG Files TITCH drawings have the extension ".DRG" and are stored in the \TITCH\ directory at the top level of any disk on which you create drawings. The \TITCH\ directory is created automatically. PIC Files PIC files have the extension ".PIC" and are stored in the \TITCH\PIC\ directory. The \PIC directory is created automatically. Curs.pic and Titch.reg These are files internal to TITCH and are stored in the M:\OPD\ directory Temporary Files Temp.pic is created in the M:\OPD\ directory whilst moving objects on screen. This is usually removed immediately after use but may remain if TITCH exits abnormally. It will be removed the next time you launch TITCH. LINKED Files ------------ If you insert Links to other drawings or PIC files TITCH will search for them using the following algorithms. Drawings and Templates: TITCH first searches for the drawing with the same name and in the same directory and disk as when the link was created. If not found TITCH then searches on disk M: in the same directory then M:\TITCH\ then M:\TITCH\LIB\. This search is then repeated for disks A: and B:. PIC Files: TITCH first searches for the PIC file with the same name and in the same directory and disk as when the link was created. If not found TITCH then searches on disk M: in the same directory then M:\TITCH\ then M:\TITCH\PIC\. This search is then repeated for disks A: and B:. If a drawing or PIC File is not found an error will be displayed and written to the log screen which can be viewed using the Log menu. If TITCH cannot find PIC files when the drawing is opened you will be prompted to delete the links from the drawing. The Log screen will give details of what files could not be found. Built in Applications: TITCH will search for the file with the same name and in the same directory as when the file was created. it will then search the normal directory on M: , A: and B: If not found TITCH then searches M:\TITCH\ then M:\TITCH\LIB\. This search is then repeated for disks A: and B:. Normal directories are: \WRD\ Word and Text \SPR\ Sheet \DAT\ Data \OPO\ OPO files created from OPL \OPL\ OPL program files \AGN\ Agenda A Note on the \LIB\ directory. You may wish to create a large virtual drawing which actually consists of several drawings which are linked. Any drawings stored in \TITCH\LIB\ will still be found if they are referenced by a LINK button but they will not appear on the System Screen. ========================================================================== TITCH Version 2 Order Form To: Martin Sturgess PO BOX 3618 Harlow CM17 OEP UK Date: Name: Home Address: E-Mail Address : Please send me the Registration Code for TITCH by the following method: [ ] Via Internet mail [ ] Via Compuserve mail (but why not use GO SWREG?)
