Here is what I've been able to find out about the Star Trek game: Use Sulu's instruments to navigate. To use a person's instruments you just point to that person and click (you can use the bridge screen for this). Sulu's instruments allow navigation. Pick the red screen, point at the moving crosshair (small) in the starfield) and click. Then pick 'Set Course'. Then set your warp speed. wait. When you reach the solar system a bell will sound. Then use Sulu's light blue screen to pick which planet to go to. Don't forget to set the speed (Impulse). On the way, you will probably be attacked, and red alert will sound. For fighting, use Checkov's instruments. First, use the red screen to pick which phasar banks to use, or photon torpedoes. Then, pick the black screen with the frisbee-shaped outline. Yellow 'T' shapes depict the enemy vessels. Point to one and click. Then use the black screen with a square in each corner. If you've selected a target, it will appear in the middle, along with a red circle. Move the circle to cover the enemy, and click to lock on target. Point and click on the corner squares to fire. After firing several times, you're phasars may get depleted. Go back to the red screen and use torpedoes. If you use Spock's screen in battle, it will let you see the condition of the enemy vessel. The status of the Enterprise is always available through Spock. Also, Spock will give you information on the planet that you are going to. You can only beam down on planets that are life supporting. When you reach a life supporting planet, you can beam down using Kirk's screen. I haven't been able to do anything with other planets though. On Kirk's screen, there is the stardate, an 'L', an 'S', and the stores option. I haven't gotten anything into the ship's stores yet. If you are on a life supporting planet, then the option to transport down is also available. The 'L' and 'S' commands are load and save options. However, the load game option doesn't seem to be working. If you try 'L' without ever having saved (S), then the program crashes. Otherwise, you gat a 'Failed' message. If you try to save on a write protected disk, you will get the message 'Protected'. When you pick transporter, you can assign who will be transported down. Click on the 'T' to actually transport. Once down, the screen will show an obstacle and the members of your landing party. Pointing and clicking will show you that particular member's suggestion for getting past the obstacle. If you like that crew member's suggestion, then point and click in the upper message area and it will be carried out. If it worked, then the way ahead will be cleared and you can continue. However, if you pick the wrong solution, then someone invariably gets injured. To go back to the ship, just point and click on any of the alternate screens. Once back on the ship, picking McCoy will give you a health display of the crew members. If anyone is hurt, they will gradually heal if you wait on this screen. Uhura is supposed to give you messages, but I've never gotten one. Scotty gives you a report on the state of the ship's engines. That pretty well sums up what I've been able to figure out so far. Let me know if you need any more specifics. I'm stuck on the planet's surface with the Rebel Commander. If anyone figures this out, let me know. This is a pre-release version, so you may not be able to go farther. However, as is it's probably the most impressive thing I've seen for the ST. I think that when it comes out, they're going to get my money. Take care, -Adam West Here are excerpts from further messages I've left and more info about the game: Msg# : 38 Lines: 20 Read: 3 Sent : May 6, 1987 at 3:25 AM To : ALL From : ADAM WEST Subj : Star Trek Here are some more details about Star Trek: The game is much more finished than I thought. Star Trek is a definite MUST HAVE. The game has the best graphics and sound I have seen. Be good to yourself, download it. The only things that don't seem to work are the (L)oad and (S)ave on Kirk's screen. I wasn't completely right about Sulu's red screen. There are a number of solar systems to go to (about 20, each containing from 2-6 planets). The small blue crosshair is the position of the Enterprise. The other white dots (look like stars) are solar systems. To go to a solar system, point and click on ANY of the dots and "Set Course". Then pick a warp speed from grey screen, and away you go. One note, you don't advance while on the red screen. Once you pick your destination, go to another screen (Kirk's screen will show the Star Date advancing rapidly). All planets that are life supporting will let you beam down. However, only some of the other planets will let you beam down. Your objective when you beam down is to get past all the obstacles, and go as far as you can. Usually, you will eventually come to an object which you can take or beam up, and which will help you in other areas of the game. Some will be installed in the Enterprise and others are carriable. Before you take or beam something up, you should have Spock analyze it, he will explain what it's used for. Once an object has been taken, you can't analyze it. Anything in the ship's stores that is carriable, can be taken by a crew member when beaming to a planet's surface. For example, I couldn't get past the rebel commander on Dakiak. Later, I found an object that let me. When transporting down to Dakiak, I chose "Stores" from the transporter screen, flipped through the stores to the object I wanted, and then clicked on Kirk. Kirk carried that object down to Dakiak, and he was able to use it against the Rebel commander. Sometimes, when arriving at a planet, you will hear a whistle. That means that Uhura has gotten a message. Clicking on her screen shows the message (often a hint at what you are expected to accomplish). You most often get a message when you go to a planet that's an archive. It appears that Scotty's screen merely shows the status of the ship's engines. It seems that your ship gets repaired according to which planet Replies: 40 Read Msg Cmd (?=List)> Msg# : 40 Lines: 9 Read: 3 Sent : May 6, 1987 at 3:47 AM Recv : May 6, 1987 To : ADAM WEST From : ADAM WEST Subj : Re: <39> Star Trek you are at. For example, if you run out of photon torpedoes, and you go to a planet that Spock's screen describes as a weapons dump, then your torpedoes will be restored. A warning though, I'm not sure about this. The next message will describe what I've found out about the purpose of the game. I don't want to tell too much about the game, for those of you who don't want everything explained. So after this, I'll only leave an answer to a specific question (unless you'd like me to continue this, let me know). -Adam West Replies: 41 Read Msg Cmd (?=List)> Msg# : 41 Lines: 10 Read: 1 Sent : May 6, 1987 at 3:52 AM Recv : May 6, 1987 To : ADAM WEST From : ADAM WEST Subj : Re: <40> Star Trek OK, this is what I know about the object of Star Trek: Apparently, there is rebellion in the galaxy. Don't be too surprised if you are attacked by a Federation Starship. If so, it's been taken over by rebels. Apparently, you're objective is to stop the rebellion. I also have reason to believe that the rebellion has been started by the Klingons (those bastards!). Let me know if you have any questions. I won't make you wade through any more books. -Adam West
