QUAKE PLAYER 1.0 ---------------- This is a non-playable demo of Quake Amiga. However, it is much more than a simple slideshow, and that is why we call it the Quake Player. This player allows you to view Quake demos, the ones found in the game, as well as a vast number of demos that can be found on Internet. It is very important to realize that Quake Player does not just display presaved pictures, IT ACTUALLY RENDERS THE WHOLE GAMEPLAY IN REAL TIME AS IF YOU WERE PLAYING IT !!! Therefore, the speed you see here is the actual speed you will be getting in the game. (note: Game speed over Internet will depend on the quality of your connection!) OPTIONS ------- All the options from the game are available in the player. Press ESC, and use regular PC-like options, or Amiga-style menus. The first time you press ESC it will take some time for Quake to load and display the menu. Next time it appears faster (it loads it from buffer). Feel free to choose resolution, sound and other options. Obviously, starting the game, choosing maps, etc. will not give any results. RUNNING DEFAULT QUAKE DEMOS --------------------------- To simply see 3 demos found in the Quake game, from Shell type one of the following: quakeplayer This will play 3 default demos in a loop. Alternatively, you may want to type: quakeplayer -nocdaudio quakeplayer -nosound -nocdaudio to test it without sound and CD music playback. RUNNING OTHER DEMOS ------------------- To run any other Quake demos, simply copy it to your ID1 directory. They should all have .dem extension, so if the demo you downloaded is camper.dem you can play it from console by typing playdemo camper (see below for explanation of console) RUNNING QUAKE DEMOS FROM CONVERSIONS ------------------------------------ If you want to install a Quake conversion and would like to see its demo(s): 1. Create a directory inside Quake direcory, and name it whatever you like (ie. test) 2. Unpack the conversion to that directory 3. Run quake player by typing: quakeplayer -game test LIMITATION ---------- - Quake player can only play demos from the first Quake episode. (Therefore, qdq100 or similar will not work) - Quake player will only play demos if it can find .pak file for them. - If a particular demo won't work, it is because it can't find .pak file for it (either other Quake episodes, or from conversion) CONSOLE ------- To invoke a console, press ~ key (upper left corner of the keyboard). The HTML file included in the Quakeplayer directory is taken from the Net, and gives a detailed explanation of all the console commands found in Quake. Experiment!
