Changes from V2.0 to 2.0a (06.12.1995)
- Just some internal fixes - typos, wrong .ps output for some Latin-1
characters, and one section was diff'ed manually incorrectly.
Don't bother, V2.0 was only on the FTP server a few hours, and there
was no announcement for it yet. :-)
Changes from V1.0a to 2.0 (05.12.1995)
- removed references to the MeetingPearls II CD as the information in
there is not really up to date anymore
- removed a couple of "Tips and Gotchas" which are obsolete now - however,
some of them have been put into the FAQ as that's the place where they
really belong
- added sub-item to Tips section for exchanging files using MS-DOS
partitions
- general cleanups
- added section "A first check"
- added section "Installation of the X window system"
- added some notes about 0.9 vs. 1.2 kernels
- almost nothing has happened yet concerning the planned binary
distribution, but the idea is still there..hang on..
Todo:
- once it exists, rewrite this according to a binary distribution
- (this space for rent...)
Changes from V1.0 to V1.0a (31.08.95)
- Not very much has changed - mostly typo fixes. Thanks to everyone who
pointed out mistakes to me.
- I have to admit this beast has not undergone as much changes and
development as I wished it would have. While trying out some of the
hints herein myself, I noticed that a lot of problems for beginners
are still lurking around.
So, instead of trying to brush this up, I thought it would be a better
idea to try to put together a binary distribution of Linux/m68k with a small
installation program and ready-to-go packages and write a new installation
guide tailored for that distribution.. Hmm, I decided to do so in June,
and now we have September. Oh well. There's so few time at the moment for
it...I'd really like to put together something like 'Slackware' for
Linux/m68k, but right now my studies are much more important *sigh*.
Now, instead of doing nothing at all, I decided to at least release this
slightly bugfixed version of this document. Nothing to be proud of, I
suppose, but at least those who want to start with Linux now don't trip
over the same stupid bugs some others discovered..
I guess this file will not change very much more in the future.
Please note that already a lot of information in this file is out-of-date
by now (like current kernel versions, old problems etc).
V1.0 (20.12.1994) Initial version (released a few weeks later)
