Amiga Formula One F1GP-Ed 3.36 (12.10.97)

by Oliver Roberts

F1GP-Ed is an editor/enhancer for the Amiga version of Formula One Grand Prix / World Circuit. It allows you to adjust F1GP almost completely to your satisfaction. No longer is losing concentration the greatest threat to becoming world champion. With this program you'll be really pushing yourself just to put your car near the front of the grid. Full details of what is possible are contained in the documentation.

Diary

03-Apr-98: CART Series Datafile - Brand new datafile (by Ron Vance) for F1GP-Ed based on the 1998 IndyCar CART series. Can be found on the new datafiles page.

01-Apr-98: 1998 Season Datafile updated - Updated with qualifying and race stats from the Brazilian GP.

29-Mar-98: New cockpit design - Alan Strang has released his new '98 cockpit design.

08-Mar-98: 1998 Season Datafile released - The first datafile for the 1998 season, which features all the new colour schemes and drivers. Relative car performance is based on the qualifying and race stats from the Australian GP.

27-Jan-98: New cockpit design - James Bott has updated his rather nice cockpit design. It has many unique features, and also sports a more realistic palette (which needs to be imported into F1GP-Ed).

26-Jan-98: New cockpit collection - Paul Snowdon recently sent me his collection of cockpit designs, including some '98 designs. As there were so many I've decided to release them altogether in a single archive - currently only available from Aminet (game/data/PS_Cockpits.lha).

Latest News (updated 1 April 1998)

The next version (3.40) of F1GP-Ed should be ready before the end of April 1998. I will be adding a few new features - something which has occupied most of my F1GP development time, recently, is a new patch which allows F1GP to work on non-15kHz screenmodes (i.e. not PAL or NTSC). As a result of my work on this, there will also be a patch which utilizes the power of the AGA chipset, which will make the game slightly faster/smoother on an A1200 or A4000. A new improved version of f1gp.library will be released with F1GP-Ed 3.40. Also, the following bugs in v3.36 have been fixed:

  • Due to a bug in the ILBM reader code I 'borrowed', F1GP-Ed could hang (or simply show corrupted images) when decoding IFF-ILBM files using the cockpit and backdrop windows. This only happens with images that have been saved in PPaint or DPaint with a stencil switched on.
  • The digital joystick dual gear change button feature now works as it should have - before, it was impossible to preset button 2 for changing up a gear.
