"Scalos" is a "Workbench replacement" type utility. It replaces original Workbench with a new interface, including many useful modifications and new features:
- 100% Workbench compatibility
- 64bit arithmetics for Harddisksizes - it should make the usage of partitions bigger than usual 4GB possible
- Full multitasking! During listing of one window directory in progress it is possible to operate others. There is no need to wait - a real disadvantage of original Workbench
- CyberGraphics support
- Iconification of open windows
- Custom changes in Workbench Menu (optional, changeable, and expandable Menu and submenu positions on dragbar), several customised pop-menu options according to the selected item (different menus for windows, disk, project and trashcan icons, etc.)
- Customisable window and screen backdrops (every window can have a different backdrop!), also backdrops for text windows (e.g. Shell), backdrops can change at random after each reboot of system and are displayed faster than in original Workbench, can also be scaled, tiled or displayed centrally
- Fully definable palette (not only first 8 colours!), which can be locked for other programs in order not to change it
- Infinite expandability through "plug-ins"
