There are some hidden warp zones in the underground sections, they are hidden behind the proper exit pipe. All you have to do is find a way to the top of the screen and go over the exit pipe. Here is the first of the warp zones (in the picture to the right) found on level 1-2. Just smash the blocks above the first two Koopa troopas (green turtles)like shown, then smash the ceiling blocks. Now you can do a big jump and land on the top of the ceiling as shown. This allows you to run past the most of the enemies, when you get to the elevators (and you can do this if you missed the last bit) jump on the second one and wait until it is at the top of the screen and jump off so you land on the ceiling. Then just run to the right to find the warpzone and pick a level to warp to, easy.

Continue At the "Game Over" screen, hold A. When the "1 Player/2 Player" screen appears, press START.

Extra Lives When you stomp on a turtle, kick it to the right and follow it. If it hits eight other turtles then you'll win an extra life.

Extra Lives on World 3 At the end of the third world you will see two turtles coming down. Let the first turtle go then jump lightly on the second turtle so that it is standing still on the steps (this will take practice.) Jump on the turtle again, if you do this right it will keep bouncing into the other turtle and give you points. After a while it will give you free men. Get as many as you wish, but be careful not to get more than 100 men because if you do when you die the game is over.

Screenshot Extra Points When you touch the flag pole, take note of what the time left is. If you touch the flag pole when the time left has the last digit 1,3,6, then you will get 1, 3 or 6 fireworks. every firework will give you 500 points. To get maximum points stand on the left edge of the highest blocks just before the end of the level (as shown in the picture on the right), then hold down B to run and when the counter hits 9 run and jump, you should hit the top of the rope on 6.

Minus World To get to the never ending water level go to world 1-2. At the part at the end where there's a pipe going to the next level. Break two blocks so there's one at the end touching the pipe. Now duck and jump backward toward the brick (don't break it!) If you did this right you should go through the wall and pipe into a warp zone. Jump down the 1st pipe you see and you will be in the Negative World (-1)

Moon Walk On level 4-2 at he begining you have to jump two things. One is big, the other is narrow. On the narrow one jump and hold down. (If you did this right you should be under some bricks.) Let go of down and keep holding left. Mario then will moon walk.

Bowser's Castle When you get to any of Bowser's castles make sure you are big or have fire power before you get to Bowser. When you get to the end and you have to get the golden axe, wait untill Bowser backs you into the corner right below the axe. Before Bowser can squash you jump. You want to land on Bowser while landing on the golden axe. If you do this correctly Mario will start to flash. Now when you get mushrooms they will make you little and you can use fire power when you are little.

Warp to World 5 Make your way to the end of World 1-2 at the place where there's a pipe going to the next level. Break two blocks so there's one at the end touching the pipe. Now duck and jump backward toward the brick (don't break it!) If you did this right you should go through the wall and pipe into a warp zone. Ignore the first pipe, then jump down the second pipe and you warp to World 5-1.

Warp to World 6, 7 or 8 When you get to world 4-2, go past the first set of ? blocks and the elevator. Jump the hole and you will see a small staircase made of bricks. Break the brick underneath the top-left brick, then hit the top-left brick and a beanstalk will appear. Climb it to reach a special area where you can warp to worlds 6, 7 or 8.

    CODE KEY IN . . . EFFECT . . .
    LIVES!
Codes 1 to 5 let you adjust lives. Code 4 is really good for handicapping one player.
    1 AATOZA Start players 1 & 2 with 1 life
    2 IATOZA Start players 1 & 2 with 6 lives
    3 AATOZE Start players 1 & 2 with 9 lives
4 VATOLE Start player 1 with 8 lives and player 2 with 3 lives
5 SXIOPO Infinite lives for both players
? YYTOZA Start with over 155 lives

    JUMPS!
Super and Mega-jumps can be achieved while standing still, running or turbo
running (holding down button B). Try entering Codes 6, 7 and 8 or Codes 9,
10 and 11 for all-around Super- or Mega-jumping. Super jumps let you jump
    better--the effect is especially noticeable
    when turbo running.
6 APZLGK Super jump from a standing start only
7 TPZLTG Super jump from running only
8 GPZUAG Super jump from turbo running only
Mega-jumps enable you to jump almost to the top of the screen--
    right off the top when
    turbo running!
9 APZLGG Mega-jump from a standing start only
10 APZLTG Mega-jump from running only
11 GAZUAG Mega-jump from turbo running only

    MOON GRAVITY!
Moon gravity is a brilliant ability! It has weird and wonderful effects.
Again, it works when stationary, running, or turbo running. The Moon gravity
effect is more fun than Super- or Mega-jumps, but it is harder to get used
to. Stay with it and you'll find that it gives the game an added twist!
You can control the height of your Moon jumps. To jump really high, tap
button A really quickly. To do low jumps hold down button A for about one
second. Use this power to find new places to explore. You can even jump
    over the flags!
(If you're playing to complete the game rather than just explore it, don't
jump over the flagpoles--or else you'll get "stuck" and have to reset.)
12 YAZULG Moon Gravity from a standing start
13 YAZUIG Moon Gravity from a running start
14 YAZUYG Moon Gravity from turbo running only

    STAY BIG!
Code 15 will keep you big. However, you can still die if you fall down holes.
15 OZTLLX + AATLGZ + SZLIVO Always stay big Worldwarping!
    ? EAKKPO No enemies (weird)
