Database Master - Version 2.0(102) 1991 By Stephen Evans 1. Loading and starting Database Master a. When Database Master has loaded you will see a file select box, this is where you select the Database you wants to use or create a new one. To create a new database type in the new database file name and press return. b. You will now be asked for the full database name, and then the field names and sizes. If you don't wants to use all 20 fields enter all the fields you need then when it asks for the next field name just press return. c. Now it will go off and create you Database. Files used are : - {Filename}.DBM (Master File) {Filename}.DBMF (Field File) {Filename}.DBMD (Record Data File) {Filename}.DBMI (Index File) {Filename}.DBMV (Version File) 2. The Main Menu a. Shows as : 1. Record File 2. Database Setup 3. Reports 4. Field Setup 5. Utilities 6. Exit i) Record File Record File is where you add/edit/delete your database records, when you have entered this options you will see a line like the following : (A)dd, (C)hange, (V)iew. Yes you have guest that selecting A will let to add a record and C will let you change a record. The View Command shows you all the records in a one line summary. On adding a record or changing you will see Any Change? at the bottom of the screen, When you are here a select a number of one of you fields you are able to edit it. Also at this point if you type in 'DELETE' you can delete the Record. ii) Database Setup The following Menu will appear. 1. Change Index 2. Rebuild Index 3. Delete Database 4. Database Sizes 5. Program Account 6. Clear Database Fields 7. Edit New Database 8. Exit 1. Change Index - When using the change option in 'Record File' You are able to search on any field, this is where you set it up. Just Select the field number you want to use. 2. Rebuild Index - The above chains into this routine, old versions you had to run manually. 3. Delete Database - If you want to delete the database you are using then select this. 4. Database Size - Here you can see how many records are in use, deleted,sorted,index use and the file name. 5. Program Account - This holds where the AMOS Program run file are kept. Eg. SYS: Programs/ 6. Clear Database Fields - Clears all Records from the Database. 7. Summary Report a) Detailed Report print out the all the database and all the fields to printer or screen. b) Summary Report prints out all the database but just selected fields. iv) Field Setup First you can select a field number to change (1-20) or select 'A' to add a new field. When changing a field you may change the following: a) Field Name b) Field Size - If smaller then previous data will be losted. c) Read Password d) Write Password The password options id used in Record File where if a password is set you are only able to a) See the data in that field, b) Change the data in that field. Selecting 'A' to add a new you will be asked the above for the new field details. v) Utilities Menu shows - 1. Passwords 2. Reorg Database 3. Sort Index 4. Export Data a) Passwords - All the main menu options can have passwords, this is where you enter them. b) Reorg Database - This removes all records flagged as delete in the database. c) Sort Index - Sorts the index field in order. d) Exports Data - Puts the database contents in a ascii format file.
