MagiCMac Selling Briskly In Its First Few Weeks ----------------------------------------------- MagiCMac, the world's first ST/GEM compatible operating system for Macintosh computers (it's NOT an emulator!), has been selling well and users in the United States are beginning to see why it's called MAGIC! MagiCMac allows you to run your favorite GEM based Atari programs FAST on a 68030/68040 Macintosh computer! Here's a rundown on MagiCMac, in case you missed it last time: -------------------------------------------------------------- MagiCMac, now available from Toad Computers, does what you always thought would be possible: run Atari software on a 68030/040 based Macintosh computer. How? It's a complete rewrite of TOS for the Mac! Except now, it's multitasking, it integrates with System 7 or 7.5, and runs rings around many ST computers. Run Atari software side by side with Mac programs on System 7. Swap data between systems. Use Atari floppies on the Mac. Connect your Atari formatted SCSI hard drive and access all data with MagiCMac as if you are using a super fast Atari. Moving files between Atari and Mac has never been so easy. The speed is simply amazing. MagiCMac is a new 32-bit multitasking operating system that lets you run Atari software applications on 030/040 based Macintosh computers. MagiCMac is not an emulator! It is an Atari TOS and GEM compatible operating system developed for Motorola 680x0 processors. This lightning fast operating system has already won thousands of Atari users and many developers. It features both multitasking as well as good old fashioned single tasking, switchable at any time. MagiCMac runs Atari programs such as Calamus SL and Papyrus much faster than Atari ST or Falcon computers. Programs run four times faster on a Performa 475 than on a Falcon030 and almost ten times faster than on the ST. The current MagiCMac package includes the highly regarded "Ease" desktop replacement. Managing your desktop has never been so easy. Because most Atari programs are designed to run on slow 8MHz machines, running them under MagiCMac unleashes their power, especially if run on 040 based Macintosh Performa or Quadra computers. Consequently, many Atari applications will run faster than most Mac based equivalents. The Floating Point Unit (FPU) is supported if installed, giving a further performance boost. However, most Atari programs run quite comfortably without an FPU. MagiCMac supports a super-fast, multitasking friendly disk filing system for the Macintosh with support for long file names, and a DOS- like Atari disk filing system which allows you to connect any Atari formatted SCSI drive, making data transfers between systems as easy as dragging files from partition to partition. Atari partitions on Mac drives will grow and shrink dynamically because they are actually folders under System 7. CD-ROM drives installed on the Mac are automatically available to MagiCMac. Another useful feature is the facility to cut and paste between Atari and Mac applications using the System 7 Clipboard and the support for dual button mice. Due to its extremely efficient memory model, MagiCMac can run with as little as 1.5MB, although more is recommended for multitasking. MagiCMac happily coexists with System 7 and 7.5. You can run up to 20 Atari programs alongside other Mac applications. All Macintosh display modes are supported including large monitors with 2, 16 or 256 colors. The Macintosh version of the NVDI 3 font system (optional, available soon) will give you both Bitstream Speedo as well as the industry standard TrueType font support with 16 and 24 bit color display drivers. Also included will be drivers for Macintosh printers. MagiCMac supports virtually all PC-compatible parallel printers using PowerPrint software (optional) which comes with a serial to parallel converter cable. Any standard serial printer can be used - provided that your programs come with the appropriate printer drivers. Atari communications software can achieve speeds of up to 230,400 baud using the Macintosh communications port.
