Edith Manual Desktop 24th September 1994 The GEM DESKTOP only appears when Edith is used as an application. (But see the details for turning it off at the end of this page). It shows an Edith logo, has a menu bar and a set of function keys. Clicking on the function keys on the desktop is the same as pressing the keys themselves. Move the function key box around by clicking the left mouse button on the pads left of F1 and right of F10, holding the mouse, and dragging the box along. It will move immediately as you move the mouse. The MENU BAR is divided into the following menus: EDITH About dialog and desk accessories FILE File operations. Press help on File Selector window for info EDIT Edit operations. Press help on a text window for info TEXT Text manipulation. Press help on a text window for info OPTIONS Configuration dialogs, special text windows. Press help on the dialogs for info. WINDOWS Window operations CONFIG Keyboard and configuration files TURNING OFF THE DESKTOP and THE DESKTOP ROOT PATTERN Normally, when Edith is launched as an application, a desktop is installed. When -nodesk is passed on Edith's command line, no desktop and no menu is installed. Unless MiNT is used, the background pattern of the desktop is copied from the application you started Edith from. When -noprev is passed to Edith on the command line, a solid green/grey desktop is used. The desktop pattern set in Atari's NEWDESK file manager can, unfortunately, not be copied by Edith.
