The NAQ - Many never asked questions

* Alta Lista??? What's that?

It's a picture and html document database for CAB. It uses the
html commands to sort your files.

* For what can I use Alta Lista?

You can make a list of all your html files in a specific directory.
With Alta Lista you'll always know what title the page has,
what it's about and how long it is.
Another reason are the graphic CDs. Alta Lista can make a list of
all GIF, JPEGs, IMGs & PNGs and will show them in a shrinkened version
on one page.

* How can I start Alta Lista?

Double-click on the program icon or rename it to ALTA_LST.ACC and
copy it on your boot partition.

* Where are the dialogs?

I kept this old question although you can forget it now - Alta Lista
has now a menu bar and a windowed alert! However it is not a full GEM
environment with thousand of dialogs. But they were necessary to use
Face Value and that's the reason why the program size increased
enormously. 512 KByte Atari users - please go and buy a memory
expansion! If you want to use it with a half mega byte, please remove
all accessories

* Alta Lista has problems with its file selectors!

Well, this version not.

* I don't want to make a list of all files in a directory.  What  can  I
  do?

Use Selectric (or a compatible file selector) and select the  files  you
want in your list. Alta Lista is since v1.1 Selectric compatible!

* Alta Lista seems to be very slow.

Alta Lista needs to remove the HTML instructions from the files  to  get
the pure text for the description file 'alta_d.htm'. But now you can
stop Alta Lista during it's work: Simply click on "Cancel" while the
process dialog (title: "Alta Lista is working....") is displayed.

To display the HTML files as fast as possible, use Netscape or Webspace.
CAB is slower than Webspace but the display quality is better.

* Shareware/Freeware?

Alta Lista is generally Freeware. That means that you can copy it for
everyone without charging money from it.
An exception are people who use it commercial e.g. to make HTML files
for the picture folder of a CD-ROM. They have to pay for the program
(it is only a small amount, like a Shareware fee). If you have questions,
mail me and I will answer quickly. 

* Anything I need to know?

Publishing this program on a CD/Coverdisk is only allowed with my
written permission (via e-mail).
If you write about Alta Lista in a magazine/e-zine I would be happy
to hear where you write the article.

* Why is this program called Alta Lista?

Please choose:
1) I like unusual program names
2) This program is inspirated by the web search-engine 'Alta Vista'.
   The file 'alta_d.htm' looks a bit like the screen that Alta Vista
   shows after having found a topic.

* Are there any other programs I should know of?

1.3   Support for OLGA: OLGA is a program by Thomas Much which makes
      the communication between different applications much easier.
      It is similar to OLE on Windows. Example: CAB views "alta_d.htm".
      Now you edit some of the described files with an editor. If
      you restart Alta Lista, CAB will reload "alta_d.htm" after Alta
      Lista has finished its work.
1.4   I jumped over to version 1.5
1.5   Alta Lista uses Face Value as it's GEM engine
      Animated icons, process dialogs 
      Mails are supported: The need to have the extender "TXT" and
       the keyword "subject". They are treated like normal HTML files.
      Support for IMG graphic format
1.6   Frame support!
      GIF images can be generated for Mails, HTML files, ASCII text,
       and images.
