** 1 page Siteceeing / 839 words ** The Place 2 be 90% http://www.place2b.de/ ** PLACE2B.GIF here ** Here's another portal style website which covers all matters Atari, formerly know as The X. The site, which weighs in at around 50Mb is maintained by Jan Daldrup in German and English - with a French translation maintained by Sylvain Perchaud. The site is divided into five main sections which are navigated from buttons displayed in a separate frame across the top of the page. There's also a no-frames version of the pages and the site can be fully navigated in text only mode so they should be fully accessible using any browser. Here's what each of the main pages has to offer: ** UL ** * News: This page features site news, Atari events and reports, a most wanted section (unsurprisingly a new CAB release tops that poll), news of new software releases and postings from the Maus.Computer.Atari.News newsgroup. * Features: Includes articles about the Atari demo scene along with a Meet the Press section which includes a cover scan and overview of articles in ST Computer, ST Magazin and Atari Computing magazines (hurrah!). * Files: Instead of competing head to head with major software download sites this area has instead carved a niche for itself offering downloads of Atari commercials in AVI and MOV format along with scenes, shapes, fonts and objects for use with NeoN. * RelaxX: Classic action, reviews, lost treasures, help, tips, level editors, cheats - they're all here if you want 'em. * LinX: This "Around the world in 80 links" section is subdivided into Companies/Dealers, Atari on the web, Games, Software, Magazines, Scene, Search/Webring and Miscellaneous and each link includes a description - excellent. ** UL ** There really is something for everyone on this site and since Jan mentioned he hasn't won any awards he should be pleased to accept our prestigious "Atari Computing Harvest Moon Website Award". Joe Connor --- RailTrack Travel Planner 75% http://www.railtrack.co.uk/travel/timetable/index.html ** RT_TT1.GIF ** Figure 1 ** RT_TT2.GIF ** Figure 2 This site is operated by RailTrack, the company responsible for the upkeep and building of Britain's railways, as well as making sure that your local train company's rolling stock is allotted time and space on the network. Going to the url above should eventually give you a selection box (figure 1), however at the time of writing this review Rail Track were reorganising their site, so an automatic redirect was in operation, they also provide a clickthrough just in case the auto function doesn't work. Once at the selection box, it's just a simple matter of typing in a "starting station", a "destination station", and an optional "via station", just in case you want to break your journey somewhere in particular. You then type in a date of travel and a time of travel in the boxes provided and click on the 'submit' button. You'll then get a subpage (figure 2) showing details of services available at that time and date. You can use the buttons below the info to check earlier, later and return journey times, as well as being able to start from scratch again. The "details" button gives you more indepth info on a particular service such as name of the train operator and what class of accommodation is provided. The only real problem I have encountered is that should you choose a destination that has more than one station, the pop up list that comes up to define the exact station didn't work with CAB and its overlay file, returning a 'destination unknown' message! However, typing in manually the station name in the destination box is no problem and all was well. Without graphics switched on, the site is usable, though a bit messy. Not an over exciting site to be honest, but it does do what it intends to do, and the fact that Atari users can use it to plan rail trips to ACC'99 is a bonus!
