WINDOWS 3.0 SUPPLEMENTAL DRIVER LIBRARY ======================================= The disks included in this package contain device drivers for printers, displays, networks, mouse devices and keyboards. These drivers allow the devices to run with Windows. This file includes instructions on installing these device drivers and a list of all devices supported by the drivers included in this package. Installing the Novell NetWare driver ------------------------------------ If you are already using the Novell NetWare driver included in the Windows 3.0 package, copy the following files from the Supplemental Driver Library Disk 3 to your Windows directory: NETWARE.HLP and NWPOPUP.EXE. Then copy the following files into the SYSTEM subdirectory in your Windows directory: NETWARE.DRV, VNETWARE.386, and VIPX.386. If you have never installed the NetWare driver, follow the instructions in the section "Running Setup from MS-DOS" in Appendix A of the Windows User's Guide. For information on installing any of the drivers in this package on a network drive, see the NETSDL.TXT file. Installing a display driver --------------------------- Follow the instructions in the section "Running Setup from MS-DOS" in Appendix A of the Windows User's Guide. Setup might prompt you to insert disks from this package or from the original Windows 3.0 package. Installing a printer driver --------------------------- 1. In the list of printers in this file, find the printer you want to install. Note which disk contains the driver that corresponds to the printer. (If the driver filename has the .WPD extension, follow the instructions in the next section.) 2. Insert the appropriate disk in a floppy disk drive. 3. Choose Control Panel from the Main Group window in Program Manager. 4. Choose the Printers icon from the Control Panel window. 5. Choose the Add Printer button. The dialog box expands to display a list of printers available in the Windows 3.0 package. If you have never installed a printer, this list box will fold out automatically for you. 6. Scroll to the bottom of the list of printers and choose Unlisted Printer. 7. Choose Install. The Add unlisted printer dialog will appear. 8. Select from the Directories list box the drive that contains the appropriate Supplemental Driver Library disk. 9. Choose the driver name for the printer you want to install. 10. Choose OK. (Control Panel might prompt you to insert a disk from this package or from the original Windows 3.0 package.) Your printer driver will be listed in the Installed Printers list box. 11. Choose OK to close the Printers dialog box. 12. Follow the instructions in the Windows User's Guide to configure your printer driver. Installing a WPD file --------------------- If the name of the device driver file associated with your printer has a file extension of .WPD, follow these instructions: 1. Install the PSCRIPT.DRV printer driver from your SDL disk 6, using steps 2 through 10 from the previous section, "Installing a printer driver." 2. Select Postscript Printer from the Installed Printers list box. 3. Choose Configure. 4. Choose Setup. The postscript printer dialog box will appear. 5. Choose Add Printer. 6. Type the name of the drive that contains disk 6 of the Supplemental Driver Library. Control Panel displays a list of additional postscript printers that can be installed. 7. Select the printer from the Add Printer list box. 8. Choose Add. Control Panel will install the printer. 9. Choose Done. 10. Choose OK three times and close Control Panel. Installing the Access Pack software for persons with disablities ---------------------------------------------------------------- This library includes the Access Pack, which makes it easier for persons who have trouble controlling the keyboard and mouse to use Windows 3.0. The Access Pack includes three keyboard drivers, a mouse driver, a utility program, and a guide. For more information, see the ACCESS.WRI file, included in this library. To install the Access Pack software, you must use a text editor such as Notepad to edit your SYSTEM.INI file. You can find this file in your Windows directory. For more information about the format of this file and changing its values, see the SYSINI.TXT file in your Windows directory. First you must check two entries in this file to make sure that the Access software is compatible with your system. To install the Access software, you must currently have the following line in the [boot] section of your SYSTEM.INI file: mouse.drv = mouse.drv In addition, you must have one of the following three lines: keyboard.drv = keyboard.drv keyboard.drv = kbdoli.drv keyboard.drv = kbdhp.drv If your mouse.drv= or keyboard.drv= entries do not match one of these entries, your hardware is not compatible with the Access software. In the [boot] section of SYSTEM.INI, you will find an entry starting with "mouse.drv=". Depending on the remainder of this line, you will have to take different action, as shown in the following chart: Current line Action -------------------- ------------------------------ mouse.drv=mouse.drv Copy the AP-MOU.DRV file from your SDL disk 3 to your Windows directory. Change the current mouse.drv line in SYSTEM.INI to: mouse.drv=ap-mou.drv mouse.drv= You cannot install the Access software keyboard.drv=keyboard.drv Copy the AP-KBD.DRV file from your SDL disk 3 to your Windows directory. Change the current keyboard.drv line in SYSTEM.INI to: keyboard.drv=ap-kbd.drv keyboard.drv=kbdoli.drv Copy the AP-KBDOL.DRV file from your SDL disk 3 to your Windows directory. Change the current keyboard.drv line in SYSTEM.INI to: keyboard.drv=ap-kbdol.drv keyboard.drv=kbdhp.drv Copy the AP-KBDHP.DRV file from your SDL disk 3 to your Windows directory. Change the current keyboard.drv line in SYSTEM.INI to: keyboard.drv=ap-kbdhp.drv keyboard.drv= You cannot install the Access software In addition, you must always perform the following steps: 1. Copy the ACCESS.EXE and ACCESS.WRI files from your SDL disk 3 to your Windows directory. 2. Start Windows Program Manager 3. Create a new program item in your Accessories group, with the following properties: Title: Access Command: ACCESS.EXE For instructions on creating new program items, see Chapter 3 of the Windows User's Guide.
