ShutDown NOW!© v3.2 Overview:

ShutDown NOW!© v3.2 supported OSms:

MS-Windows® 95, MS-Windows® NT v4.0 and v3.5x

Additionally supported Hardware:

APM- and battery-powered desktop/notebook computers (Win95),
ATAPI+SCSI CD-ROM (Win95+NT), additionally all other removable SCSI devices too(NT only)

Shutdown / Reboot / Relog / FORCE Shutdown / FORCE Reboot / FORCE Relog / APM or Battery Power-OFF / ASK for Action / Shut Down to MS-DOS / "Shut Down" to Windows NT Commandline
All these actions are available from within a ShutDown NOW!© window-session, or from a Commandline window-session, or from a MS-Windows® 95/NT program-shortcut on the user's desktop. - For sure, also unattended operations are possible for each selected option. - A special option lets you test your settings for unattended shutdown.
Starting SHDN! in - ... / Moving SHDN! to the System-Tray Area
For sure, it is standard since the first version of ShutDown NOW!© (SHDN!) to let it automatically be started in the System-Tray (there, where the clock normally is) every time you have booted Windows®, or only to move it there, if the main window should be visible (e.g. if you should have disabled the "Always start in System Tray" (= autostart) option).
Timer/Countdown Features
There are two different timers in ShutDown NOW!© which can control the countdown, until the system shuts down (e.g. for an unattended shutdown). - One can be specified in seconds: from 1 second up to 9,999,999 seconds, the other one is a 24-hour countdown. - Checking "Run at Startup", together with the "Always start in System-Tray" option decides, if the shutdown shall be unattended or not. - You probably should make additional changes for ejection/retraction of devices media, the "Empty Directories" function and the "Run Application first" function, if you really want to shut down unattended!
Acoustical and optical SignalsNEW
You can configure to be warned either with a beeper, a flashing window, both or none, before ShutDown NOW!©'s built-in countdown will throw you out of Windows®, if previously enabled.
Starting an Application (- or File-Type) before ShutdownREVISED
You can let an application- or its document-file be run before shutdown. You will have the whole file-type palette for to specify, what shall be started.
Further you can specify either if a "Warning you have started another application ..." message will pause the shutdown until you click on its [OK] button, or if an automatic delay between the start of the application and the shutdown will define how much time you (the other application) will have to fulfill your/its tasks, before the system shuts down finally
Multithreaded Ejection & Retraction of Devices/MediaREVISED
Currently supported are: - all CD-ROM devices (ATAPI/SCSI) under Windows® 95 and Windows NT, - all removable devices under Windows NT (SCSI) You can optionally eject (and retract, if supported by the device) the media of devices during shutdown, or from one of the context-menus of ShutDown NOW!© of its main window, or from its Tray-Icon. - You further can decide, if you only want to eject/retract a device, if its medium is present, or generally open the device's door ... on shutdown, or while working on the desktop. All devices are called through their own threads. - This enables asynchronously ejection- and retraction of their media. This multi-threading is better supported by Windows NT than by Windows® 95, because of their different internals.
System-Wide visible (SWV-) Hotkeys:NEW/REVISED
Shut down your system with: CTRL + ALT + D. (by default)
Eject- and retract device's media with: SHIFT + CTRL + {DriveLetter}. (by default)

All HotKeys can now either automatically be remapped - or specified by the user. - A tricky function in ShutDown NOW!© will always scan Windows® for claimed HotKeys (from other applications or shortcuts) and automatically redirect a combination, if it is not longer available. As soon as it is available again, ShutDown NOW!© automatically will restore the user's original settings for the HotKeys (... either the automatic chosen ones, or the self-specified ones). - So you'll never be without HotKeys for your devices or for to shutdown with SHDN!, ... and you'll always have an overview of these HotKeys either from SHDN!'s second statusbar, or from the context-menus.
Three different Functions (included in one Option) to power-off an APM- or Battery supported Computer (under Windows® 95)REVISED
APM-BIOS computers (like the ASUS P2L97) and battery-powered Notebooks, can be powered off now (by countdown) under Windows® 95, using one of the three different functions, hidden behind the "PowerOFF (APM/Battery)" option of ShutDown NOW!©. - For Windows NT users only one of these functions is available -- ... and this only, because it is officially documented in the Microsoft API for Win32-NT - ... and if it should not work on your computer, then maybe you have to wait until the next version of Windows NT.
Secure/Fast/Comfortable empty specified Folders/SubDirectories (or whole Drives) on Shutdown
You can specify one or more directories which will be emptied during shutdown:
normal, secure, with/without subdirectories, with read-only/hidden/system files and folders, and all this in combination with each other. - Possible options are to let ShutDown NOW!© show the directories before it shall empty them on shutdown, -- and to disable- or enable to be prompted, or to enable- or disable single directories to be emptied each time. ... and so on ...
Initializing sleeping HD drives for correct Cache-Writeback
You can let ShutDown NOW!© initialize sleeping HD drives (e.g. if powered down by Power-Management functions) at shutdown. So you'll never get in trouble with a 'hanging' system on shutdown, if a drive is not powered-up again when the (Windows® 95-) system has already performed the shutdown ... and then wants to reboot, or soft power-off the computer ... even though the drive is not ready for this action! ... (Sometimes Win95 is too fast!?) ...
2 Event-Logging FunctionsREVISED
You can either let ShutDown NOW!© log all shutdown-actions to its default LogFile (sizable), or the Windows NT EventLog (if running under NT). - The default LogFile appends the last logged actions at its end (eventually removing the first entry) and it does never exceed its specified size.
A typical log-entry shows: day, date, time, user, action, free physical-, swap- and virtual memory.
100% Network compatible InterfaceNEW
A 100% network-compatible interface saves all settings now as per-user (user-individual) settings - and not longer in the SHDN.INI file, which only has allowed global settings for all users!
The Shareware version of ShutDown NOW!© will only allow the program to be accessed by one user at the same time. - Additional licenses can be ordered.
