ADBASE Address Database 1.45 - By Steve MacMillan ADBASE is a dedicated address book program for keeping names and numbers. It has a upper limit of 400 addresses and saves it's files in regular ASCII text. A few things to know: To enter an address click on the 'add' button in the lower right hand corner, select 'add' from the menu, or type 'Control- A'. Use the up/down arrows or a mouse click to move around in the window. When everything is correct the address is added to the list by typing 'Control-A' or by clicking on the 'add' button. Clicking within the window, selecting the 'Edit' menu option, or typing 'Control-E', allows the currently displayed address to be edited. Finish by typing 'Control-A' or clicking on the 'add' button. During all text entry the left/right cursor keys are active as are backspace and delete. 'Control-Left Arrow' and 'Control-Right Arrow' move the cursor to the beginning and the end of each line respectively. The 'Esc' key erases the contents of the current text line. The 'Undo' key recalls the line's text as it was before the last edit. While entering notes, the line the cursor in on may be deleted with 'Control-Delete' and a new line inserted with 'Control-Insert'. Scroll thru the list with the up/down arrow keys to move an address at a time, the left/right arrows to jump a letter at a time, or by the slider bar at the bottom of the address window. To jump to the first address that starts with a given letter, click on the alpha-buttons to the right of the window or just type the letter you wish to jump to. If no address is found that starts with a selected letter the next address is found. The 'Clr/Home' key displays the first address, or when shifted, the last. By selecting the 'Fast Display' menu option, or by typing the '*' key, the list can be scrolled much faster than in the address window, however no editing is possible. Return to the main screen by typing either '*' or 'Undo'. The search function searches from the currently displayed address onward so if the whole list is to be searched start at the top of the list. A 'Control-N' key combination will find the next occurrence of the search string. Any field may be searched and the search string is not case sensitive. Also the search function finds the search string if contained within a larger string. A searched subset of the list may be saved to disk, deleted, or printed, and searches the whole list. The Dial menu allows for auto-dialing of either Phone # shown in the current address. Include an area code, and any additional text in the Phone field should not contain numbers. The function keys f1 and f2 will dial Phone numbers 1 and 2 in full, and if shifted (F1 & F2) they dial in local mode. Once the call has started ringing pick up your phone receiver, if you have not already done so, and type 'Return' to disconnect the modem. Pulse dialing is supported. Hot keys are keys that can be struck from the keyboard to duplicate Menu selections. Most are Control-key combinations and are shown next to the menu selection in the pull-down menu. ADBASE allows the printing of names and numbers only. Simply toggle the 'Phone # Only' switch on the Print menu on, and all print functions will be name and numbers only. Adbase defaults to "Epson" printer codes but allows for entry of different codes that can be saved and auto loaded when Adbase is run. When Adbase is first run it checks in the same drive path as the program for 'ADDRESS.ADD' and auto loads it. Two files may be merged together by selecting 'Merge' from the File menu. If the Total amount of both lists do not exceed 400 records the files are merged and alphabetized. ADBASE can be installed as an application. Each address can be marked by selecting 'Mark Address' from the menu or by the 'Control-M' key combination. A small 'M' appears in the lower right corner when the address is marked. Type 'Control-M' or use the menu again to un-mark the currently marked address. Marked files can be saved with the 'Save Marked' menu selection. Marking an address is a quick way of setting aside several addresses for merging to another address file or just to find again with the Search function. Accessories can be used from within ADBASE. You must first select the 'Accessories' menu selection. All other functions will be suspended and the screen cleared. After using the accessory select 'Accessories' again to return to normal.
