|| || || || || || || || || REmote USer EDitor || || || DEMO version 1.00 NOTE: The programmer takes no responsibility for any damage caused ===== by wrong usage. Please read this document first. There is a ===== fast installation part here for you who can't wait! ===== ===== This program is (C)1992-1993 Rolf Johansson, and may be copied ===== as long as nothing changes, and the docs remain in the package. Gothenburg, Sweden 31 December 1992. Written by Rolf Johansson, TRoNY data. -- What in the H*LL is ReUsEd? ------------------------------------------ ReUsEd is a usereditor for the BBS-System Quick BBS ST (tested 1.08). But it's not any normal user editor, it's got something that others don't. It can be operated by a user in the BBS. A REMOTE Usereditor it is! :-) This program has been under development since spring 1992, and things like not having enough time and so have delayed it being put out in BBSes around the world! :-) The version you're a proud owner of right now, is only a DEMO version. I charge no money from you if you want a full and working version. All I want is a nice postcard. This is why this sort of programs are called PostCardWare. You know, there are lots of different Wares. Globeware, Shareware, Freeware... The names keep on rolling. I thought it would be different with PostCardWare. And I'll get to know who's interested in the program, right?! -- Send us a Postcard to get a "real" version! -------------------------- If you want a "real" version wich can SAVE (this demo can't, did I forget to tell you?!), and further on can read newuser-answers in NEWUSER.LOG and that can upgrade new users, and more... Please send a postcard to: TRoNY data c/o Rolf Johansson Penninggatan 11 S-414 79 Gothenburg SWEDEN Please include your name, address, telephone number and Fidonet or NeST number. If you haven't got a Fido or NeST number at all, please send me a letter, along with a pre-stamped letter to Sweden, so I can send you a disc with the program, plus some other good programs from TRoNY data! -- How to install the program ------------------------------------------- Together with REUSDEMO.PRG is a file called REUSED.CFG. This is the configuration file, and in that file there are some words and other things that you may not understand, right? Ok, here comes some explaination for you. This file is used by ReUsEd to know where you have your QBBS home directory, where the USERS.BBS file are, how the system should treat you and so on. LogFile C:\QBBS\SYSTEM.LOG This command tells ReUsEd that you want to log all things that happens in the program, and that the file it should write all this to is SYSTEM.LOG that is in the directory C:\QBBS\. You must not have this command, but it is useful! SystemPath C:\QBBS\ Tells ReUsEd where it can find DORINFO1.DEF. Usually your so called QBBS main directory. Compulsory. UserPath C:\QBBS\ Where the USERS.BBS can be found. Compulsory. IdleTime 90 As in QBBS, a user cannot stay calm to long, before the system warns you with a bell, and a treath that it will logg you off. Here you decide on your own how many SECONDS the user can idle before a first warning with a bell. This command MUST be in the CFG-file! SysopIdleAllowed This tells ReUsEd that SYSOP can idle how much he wants to. Useful or not, decide for your self! Optional. EqualAccess If you have this command, ReUsEd will let ANYONE edit the SysOp record. NOT good, but maybee someone wants to have it like so. If you do NOT have this command, SysOp can only be edited by - SysOp. SecurityCode ATARI If you by any reason want a security code, here's your chance! In the example above, the code is "ATARI". Optional. Please boot up a good text editor like Tempus or Emacs or whatever you like, as long as you can edit the config file. Look at the example and edit to suit your BBS! Any lines with "#" are NOT read! Place REUSDEMO.PRG and REUSED.CFG in the same directory, for example in your QBBS home-directory. Make a .DOR file for Quick BBS like so: (only an example) send Loading ReUsEd... cd C:\qbbs\ status off write DORINFO1.DEF exec REUSDEMO.PRG del DORINFO1.DEF status on send Back already? ;-) exit Make a menu option 7 in any menu in your BBS, so that the DOR-file is started, and in that - ReUsEd. IMPORTANT NOTE: ReUsEd does not look for DORINFO1.DEF in the same directory as the program and config file, it looks for it in the SystemPath directory! === You can also install ReUsEd like this: ============================== This way gives you more memory left for the userbase, but you have to be running a Batch file. I like this way more, because of memory probs. on a 1MB machine. Running with PCommand, this gives me memory free for about 500-600 users. 2MB users can expect 1000-1500 users, and 4MB maybe 3000. Make a DOR-file (or a menu option 15 - exit with errorlevel): cd C:\qbbs\ menu 15 200 Now in the batch-file, set it up so when Qbbs exits with errorlevel 200, ReUsEd starts up. Remember that the DORINFO1.DEF need to be written in the SystemPath directory. The errorlevel is free to chose. Need to tell you this all time! :-) ========================================================================= ReUsEd now can handle a maximum users, depending on your free RAM. If you have 340650 bytes free, then ReUsEd can handle about 340 users. If you have less users, it uses less memory of course! -- The program main screen ---------------------------------------------- It's not so complicated, is it? I've tried to make it as like Theo's Usereditor as possible, but of course some small changes... Depending on your graphics mode, you'll se different graphics on screen. If you have a 2400 bps modem, IT IS SLOW, I know. Hopefully 9600 or 14400 should be a bit faster! :-) Move the ">" cursor by pressing Cursor Up and Down. If this doesn't work, the terminal program cannot send ASCII 27 plus A, B, C or D (VT-52 cursor move codes). Then try "8" and "2" on the numeric keypad. Press Cursor Left and Right to go back and forth in the userbase, or "4" and "6" if VT-52 codes does not work. Whenever you feel for editing a field, press Return and the cursor will move into the datafield. Pressing Return again will Cancel, and typing anything and pressing Return will change the data. Press Control+H for a Help-screen with all key combinations. Like Ctrl+S for searching the userbase at the name-field, or Ctrl+L for listing the userbase. Try the different keys and you'll feel more familiar in a couple of minutes! At the bottom is some information about free memory, and who is online. Plus the info about Control+H for help. I don't think the editor is too complicated, but if you have any suggestions or anything at all, please let me know! I'll answer! -- The Last... ---------------------------------------------------------- I've tried to make this program as useful as possible. I am working on a routine to upgrade users with complex commands and so, plus a routine for looking at the NEWUSER.LOG-answers the user gave. And maybee some statistic screens and ... Look a bit down to see whatºs implemented! What do you think? Please write or send me a Netmail!
