It's "I stand by my lover as SHE stands by me." Your lyrics would be quite a different story. And although that particular line may not be astounding, every other line in that track is. -------------------------------- Date: Thu, 12 Dec 1996 20:28:34 -0500 From: mdwalbur@student.berklee.edu (Matt Walburn/Summer Holiday) Subject: Re: mojave3 >well, i would say there's practically no chance of there being a >"slowdive-ish" song on the next mojave album....in my opinion, "ask me >tomorrow" was an excellent debut. >but then i also love stuff like nick drake, tim buckley, big star, leonard >cohen. at the same time there were a couple songs that were near plagiarism. >listen to "where is the love" along with cohen's "one of us cannot be wrong". >mojave totally swiped the vocal melody. > >anyway, my point is i think mojave will start to find there own niche in that >genre & start to be less derivative. i can't seem them going back to a >slowdive type of sound for a while. i believe "ask me tomorrow" sold more >than any slowdive record & that has got to be encouraging for them... I totally agree. "Ask Me Tomorrow" is FANTASTIC. Neil finally got back around to writing songs instead of sounds. Anyone know anything about the Mercy single that Mojave were going to cut with an orchestra? It supposedly was to come out last June but nothing! Mercy is definitely the highpoint of the album for me. Love the acoustic version on the Shaving tape. 2.Can someone supply an Eternal discog? I have two Eternal tracks on the Glass Arcade comp. on Sarah. Nice kinda blend of Slowdive and indie-pop; is that Christian Saville on vocals ? 3. Morningrise has seemed to have been rereleased; its on the Siren Disc catalog 9.99 . Cheers to Creation! Maybe McGee'll rerelease those early Swervedriver singles next! Oh yah - introductions.. name's Ian, been a Slowdive nutter for the past five years or so. Got all the regular releases except for the In Mind remixes and that Live in Oslo boot (someone got an extra copy?). Never got to see the 'Dive live, but did manage to catch Mojave in Austin last April. Me and my mates caught Lush in Houston at the annual radio station alterna-fest in the afternoon, then drove 150 miles to Austin to catch the Shaving-the-Pavement-minus-Lush at the Electric Lounge. Got there at 11:00 pm, five minutes before Mojave came on! The band were excellent, but didn't the keyboard player look a little out-of-place! Was that Simon from Chapterhouse on 2nd guitar?! Excellent show - lets hope they'll come back again! on a related Chapterhouse note - anyone know about the 2CD best of from the Chappies? cheers Ian ----------------------------------- Date: 12 Dec 1996 22:45:04 PST From: avalyn@wgserv.baudtown.com Subject: chapterhouse the 2 disc compilation is out now in Japan and the US is next! ----------------------------------- Date: Fri, 13 Dec 1996 02:18:21 +0500 From: susan marie mcgowan Subject: re: slowdivish bands >Umm...I wouldn't say An April March were Slowdivey...more like a slightly >goth Cocteau Twins ummm...no, i don't completely agree...they have a few tracks, specifically 'maiden pinks', 'the red dots', and 'array', which are very 'slowdivey' (and incredible); and even tho' some of the music is 'cocteaus-esque', the vocals sound *nothing* like liz fraser's. Subject: Primal Scream I spotted 2 OLD Primal Scream CDs at the local shop used for not very much money. One was on Creation and quite old as far as I could tell and was $15 (kinda a lot used!) and the other was on some other label but was from '87 or so - pretty old, and I think the title was "Early Primal Scream" or something like that. My point leads to this question: Is this stuff good? I mean, as far as I'm concerned, Primal Scream hit it dead on the nose with Higher Than the Sun. Is this older stuff anything like HTTS, or is it poppy, or how is it? Just wondering... As most good bands do, AAM have grown considerably. You may want to judge them on something relatively recent (then again you may NOT want to). Try the Bedazzled web-site at www.bedazzled.com for some recent sounds. > Not goth in sound, but have you *seen* what they look like? Or the T-shirts > they sell? Another band on Bedazzled, THE CURTAIN SOCIETY are also worthy to be mentioned on this list; they have just released a new album. i not connected to the label or anything, but it's full of great music; i would dare to call it the 4ad of North America as far as style goes... if any one intereseted has trouble finding information, drop me a line and i'll try to help ya out. contact An April March at: aam@passport.ca cheers ---------------------------------- Date: Fri, 13 Dec 1996 12:28:27 -0600 (CST) From: "sara johnson" Subject: Re: a Slowdive sounding band I just ordered a cd by the band shiFt (a folding sieve) which is absolutly gorgeous. Blueboy have consistently put out stellar stuff IMO, but as for continously close connections to the Slowdive sound -- I would have to disagree. Post-demise Sarah labelmates Secret Shine, on the other hand, almost blatently stole the sound (only to a lower-fi finished product) The "loveblind" ep *is* a Soulvaki-era Slowdive incarnate single if there ever was one :) btw, does anyone know what Secret Shine is doing now? jason onnow: Seely - Julie only srilank@aol.com --------------------------------- Date: Sun, 15 Dec 1996 23:54:29 +1100 From: Donald Chin Subject: Re:chpterhouse hi, At 11:04 AM -0800 13/12/96, avalyn@wgserv.baudtown.com wrote: > Chapterhouse : Rownderbowt (28 trx/Double CD Dedicated-025 DCD) > it costs US$25.50 from parasol records > or > > is this the only place it will be available at? it won't be in stores? that's where i saw it listed. i use parasol records as a mail order service quite often. i am sure it will be everywhere. regards, donald -------------------------------- Date: Mon, 16 Dec 1996 13:26:08 +0100 From: "Igor V. So, if the time factor has no bearing on things, then I would say o.k., but if you like to have cd's delivered to you (after eons waiting) and without having to do their invoice busy work then I would steer clear. jason --------------------------------- End of The Avalyn Digest #1.19 ****************************** * To subscribe/unsubscribe to the Digest version of the list, send your request (including the word "DIGEST") to: avalyn-request@lysator.liu.se * To subscribe/unsubscribe to the Live version of the list, send your request to: avalyn-request@lysator.liu.se * The maintainer of both mailing lists is chief@lysator.liu.se, and can also be reached at owner-avalyn@lysator.liu.se * All messages to the Live mailing list should be sent to: avalyn@lysator.liu.se * The digests can also be found in in ASCII format at ftp.lysator.liu.se /pub/texts/uxu/avalyn and in HTML format at http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/avalyn.html.
