How to Expand the Win98 Beta Wacom Driver

It is very important that the downloaded driver file is expanded correctly. If the driver is expanded incorrectly, the driver files will overwrite each other and become corrupt. As a result, the setup program will not run successfully and the tablet driver will not be installed. To ensure that the driver file is expanded correctly follow these steps:

Note: To follow these instructions the user must be able to identify the following parts of the PC: keyboard, 3.5-inch floppy drive and diskette, and mouse. In addition, the user must be able to open Windows Explorer (or File Manager) and navigate on the desktop using drop-down menus.

1. Create a directory on C:\ drive called "TABLET".

2. Download the Wacom tablet driver to the C:\TABLET directory.

3. Insert a blank, formatted 1.44 megabyte floppy disk into the appropriate disk drive.

4. Open an MS-DOS window.

5. At the command prompt (in the MS-DOS window) type "CD \TABLET" and press Return. The prompt should now read C:\TABLET.

6. At the C:\TABLET prompt type "DIR". The directory list should show one file, PC250a.EXE.

7. Next, type "PC250a -D A:" (or "PC250a -D B:" depending on the letter designation of the floppy drive).

8. The file expansion utility will display this message: "This file contains sub-directories. Please decompress them using the -D option. Do you want to extract these files now (Y/N)?" Press "Y" and Enter.

All of the driver files will then be expanded to the floppy drive (A:\ or B:\). When the files have been successfully expanded the C:\TABLET prompt will reappear. Do not eject the floppy diskette from the drive.

9. Type "EXIT". This will close the MS-DOS window and re-open the Windows desktop.

10. Running the Setup program:
