If you currently edit your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files and then   
reboot to change your system configuration, you're doing the work that  
BOOT.SYS should be doing for you.                                       
                                                                        
BOOT.SYS makes it possible to display one or more menus at boot-up      
time.  Execute different parts of your CONFIG.SYS and/or AUTOEXEC.BAT   
files, depending on which options are chosen from a configuration menu.

for different applications?  In the past, you either had to rename or   
edit your start-up files and then reboot to get a different setup.
