Checkbook Accountant 0.9 by Jeffrey R. Almasol (release date: 12/24/90) Quick Documentation for Checkbook Accountant 0.9 ------------------------------------------------ Checkbook Accountant is a checkbook recording program. It is intended to be used as a companion to a checkbook register (where you record transactions), not a replacement. What this program offers is a simple way of balancing checkbooks, tracking bank transactions, and recording budgeted transactions. The program was designed to be functional using either the mouse or keyboard. Not all features have this duality, but most do. Another design consideration was to include as many useful and timesaving features into one program. For instance, you can scroll through any list by dragging the scroll bar, using the arrow gadgets, or using the cursor keys on the keyboard (along with SHIFT, ALT, or by itself). Also, the HELP key is available for on-line help almost anywhere in the program. Just be sure that the cursor is not in a string gadget when pressing the HELP key. This release (0.9) of Checkbook Accountant is functional for simple checkbook balancing. Transactions can reference a budget (from the budget list), but no real use can be gotten from this until version 1.0 (see Support for more information). I am releasing a pre-1.0 version for testing purposes. I would like to get this program to work on as many models and configurations as possible, and I am asking my fellow Amigans for their assistance. Credits ------- Special thanks to the following people, for which this program could not have been completed (well, version 0.9, anyway): -- Khalid Aldoseri, for his feature-packed and easy-to-implement file requester. -- My brother, for his encouragement and for not shutting-up when 20 million program features were not enough. -- Century Computer Systems, for allowing me to test out the program on their machines. -- The writers of the Amiga ROM Kernel Reference Manuals, for whom made me stay up fewer sleepless nights. Support ------- This program will be upgraded to version 1.0, hopefully sometime early next year or as soon as I get a sizeable break from school work. That release will enhance budget functionality to include setting projected budget amounts, allow transactions to be distributed over a maximum of five different budgets, and activate the Budget Summary feature in the Print requester. If you find any bugs in this program, especially with it working (or not) on an Amiga 3000 and under AmigaDOS 2.0+, or you have suggestions or comments, please send EMAIL (as detailed as possible) to either of the following addresses: PLink: JRA*GRFX GEnie: J.ALMASOL2 I cannot guarantee a quick reply or bug fix, but I'll do my best. The executable program, CA, and its support files, are released as freely distributable.
