I've made a new 'up-dated' Registration/Crop and bleed mark that to meet the ever changing needs and demands of Calamus SL DTP. It solves the problem of the black plate printing a dot pattern rather than solid black. This happens with the old one I made because the color for the black areas of the mark are set to 100% of each, C,Y,M, and K...a color I called REGISTRATION BLACK. So when it gets separated Calamus figures that the black in the printed image will be made of all four colors. This still doesn't quite seem right to me. I actually would have expected the 100%K portion of REGISTRATION BLACK to make the black plate a solid...but it don't! Unfortunately the new marks can't just be a CVG or CVD. They have to be three CVD's put together into a group frame. It works like this: The background layer of the group is just a square of white with one corner cut out at an angle. This is so that if the mark is placed over a bleed area of color it will show clearly and leave plenty of bleed when the page corners are cut to size. The middle layer is a CVD with its 'black reading' areas filled with 100% of C,Y and M. These two frames are set to 'Opaque'. The foreground CVD is the mark with it's 'black reading' areas set to 100% RO GO BO and it is a 'transparent' frame. The whole thing is then grouped. As such it can be proportionally re-sized as anyone requires. Also it can be flipped horizontally and/or vertically to be correct for each corner of the page. The only down side is that since it is a group, it has to be Clipboarded to the working document. Not tooooo bad, I guess. Anyway, it DOES print in color seps with a solid image on all plates. It also has be redesigned to make this color business come out right. I tried simply to do the above with the old mark but it wouldn't work because of how the vectors overlaid eachother. Tear a new one apart to see what I mean if you get curious. I tend to use it at dx=0.5, dy=0.5 size. This makes it easy to place. I call it 'Dead Eye'. You'll see why soon. The CYMK plate reference is the same as the old one. It works OK. Both these can used on Master pages. .....Enjoy! ice cream (today's flavor: Lino Lime)
