Everybody knows about the decreasing virus disease in computer 
software and the most common way of spreading is the use of public 
domain software in software roundtables.

There are a few virus detection programs here in the GEnie 
roundtable but - with all respect - they are almost useless 
against the virus-types I had to fight with in Germany. It's 
because the virus disease in Germany is a lot worse than it is 
here in America.

A very well written program that occupies with this proplem is 
VIRUSKILLER you'll find here in the roundtable. Unfortenately, 
this program checks out only the bootsector of a disk. It doesn't 
help you with the very dangerous link-viruses and it doesn't 
support harddisk owners.

O.K. here is what I offer. The most spreaded and - in my opinion - 
very best virus detection tool in Germany is a public domain 
program called SAGROTAN. The way it works is very effective 
against every known virus 'til yet. SAGROTAN checks out the boot 
sector of disks and the root sector of harddisks. It's able to 
recognize any infection of files by link-viruses and can almost 
everytime repair the damage. It handles relocation tables in files 
as well as it recognizes files that are damaged on purpose for 
copy protection or files that have been added with data without 
any danger (symbol tables, GST-format etc.).

SAGROTAN checks out every single file on your disk or harddisk and 
builds a checksum of those programs which are executable. This 
checksum will be stored in a library and everytime you use 
SAGROTAN it will find any single change that has been made to your 
files. There is also a big library of any known virus and if 
SAGROTAN finds one of them it will tell you what to do. SAGROTAN 
also stores the root sector of your harddisk and is able to 
restore it if it has been changed. SAGROTAN is also able to write 
a special protection boot-program on the boot-sector of your disk 
that will tell you everytime you'll boot this protected disk if 
it's o.k. or not.

Sounds good, doesn't it? As I said this program is the best and 
the minimum you can offer to your system for protection. 
Especially if you are a harddisk user you'll sleep a lot better 
than before.

There is only one problem I have. This program is completely 
written in German and I started a while ago to translate it with a 
disk monitor. But first it's to much to translate because SAGROTAN 
always tells you what it's doing and what it founds and second the 
whole thing is done very unprofessional. I wish I'd have the 
source code!!!

So I decided to ask for help here in the GEnie roundtable area and 
I hope somebody is going to support me to make this program 
suitable for the American users. I think it's really worth the 
work.
