INTRODUCTION Whatever your commitment or desire to help promote HAM radio to non- hams there is something you can do. Amateur Radio needs more public exposure. The general public knows little or nothing about Ham Radio. Each and every one of us can help spread the story of Amateur Radio by "word of mouth". The following information is aimed at helping EVERYONE promote our hobby. Those who just want to informally help (during their daily activities) to those who wish to formally participate in Public Information and Public Relations. The information is by no means complete but should give you a place to start and some help in promoting our hobby. We must educate the general public as to What Ham Radio is and then we must entice them into our hobby. During your Day-to-Day activities take every opportunity to tell those you meet about Amateur Radio. The gas station attendant, the mailman, co-workers, clients, the newspaper-boy, family, friends, acquaintances and etc. Advertising specialists will tell you that Word- of-Mouth advertising like that is invaluable, and it is something we can all do and we can all afford! Know how to explain the basics of our hobby to those with no background in Amateur Radio. Make it simple and know where to refer them for more information or make the referral for them. Always remember that you, as a Ham, represent our hobby to others so try to be the best example you can be of a devote to our hobby. Invite family, friends, neighbors, the local scout troop, school classes and etc. into your Ham Shack for a demonstration. Or, urge your club or club members to do this. Take advantage of every opportunity to promote our hobby or at least call someones attention to the situation. If you are "reading the mail" and come across emergency or disaster communications, bring it to someones attention. If you participate in public service, event or emergency communications, display the words Amateur Radio prominently and proudly. Of course there are more things you can do. This booklet should give you more ideas and details.
