[ I'd like to wish everyone on the list the best of Holidays! [ I'll hope that Peace breaks out, and a NRD525 shows up under [ your Christmas tree! [ ----------------------------- From : Ben Fuller Some more stuff to help you catch Pirate sations: 1. Get a good set of earphones. They will help you dig out weak signals from the clutter. 2. Improve the audio ouput of your receiver. Most receivers have the speaker thrown in as an afterthought which means you can often miss a station just because you literally can't hear it. To compensate for this I have run a cord from the earphone plug of my DX440 into a stereo tape deck which also has a five-slide graphic equalizer. Not only does this improve overall sound quality and make taping a snap, but the graphic equalizer can be adjusted to lessen some types of interference. With it I've been able to pick out a number of stations that I just would not have been able to copy otherwise. On to other matters: Last Friday eve. (14 Dec.) a pirate came on the 75 meter ham frequency of 3880khz. No announcements, no talk of any kind, just lots of folk & rock music. I heard him (?) for at least two hours. Needless, the hams who usually use that frequency went through the roof & I could hear them egging this pirate on to broadcast more and more music -- all the while I bet they were DFing the bejezuz out of the signal. Doesn't sound like a viable strategy for present or petential pirate operators. RNI in the 11-0 segment of their Dec. 16 broadcast ran Judah Mansbach back & forth over the coals a few times. Someone (not John P. Lightening) got fairly worked up over this government bureaucrat's activities. I wonder if this will have any effect on RNI's future -- esp. the so-called character test Allan Weiner is now undergoing at the hands of the FCC. That's all for now. 73/Ben [---------- From: DECWRL::"bigsteve@dorsai.com" "steve coletti" 22-DEC-1990 06:10:50.35 Subj: Here is the schedule for Radio New York International for 12/23/90. 9:00pm, EST/0200 UTC: "RNI MAILBAG" Dan Lewis tosses a coin with Pirate Joe to determine who will air "Flashback".
