BPM2Delay is a simple program for the PalmPilot designed to aid the user in determining the tempo of a musical passage, and, given that tempo, in determining musically appropriate delay time settings.
BPM2Delay is shareware. $10 (US) gets you the latest, unrestricted version (on MS-DOS floppy). More on this in a moment.
There are two basic functions the program performs...

1) It calculates delay times given a tempo. Below is a screen shot of the main window.
Use the arrows on the right side of the delay time table to scroll through the note values. You will see three delay times to the right of each note. The first is the delay time yielding a full note division. The second is the delay time yielding the "dotted" version of the note value (1.5 times the duration of the standard note.). The third is the triplet version (twice the standard note's duration divided by three.) |

2) It helps you find the tempo of a musical passage. Below is a screen shot of the "Find BPM" window.
The first thing you should do is tap the 'Clear' button. This clears out the timer and prepares it for a new calculation. Now simply tap the 'Tap' button in time to the music. You will see the value in the 'Tempo' field change as you tap. The tempo calculation uses the number of taps and total elapsed time since the first tap (after 'Clear' is pressed). The more beats you tap the less your margin of error (assuming the music's tempo is rock solid ;-) Once you have your tempo just press the 'Delay Times' button. You will be returned to the main screen, and the new delay times will be shown. |
