Status channels

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Status channels 1

Format: Win OS

Description: An addon that serves as a channel stats script. It uses a dialog to show you the stats for the channel. It also allows you to select the channels to get stats from (provided on you are on there of course) and the a nick to do various commands on (such as Op/Deop/Whois/Voice/Kick&Ban/etc.) The author is obviously a good scripter and some of the things that he did very nice, such as the scrolling of the dialog window when it opens up another section, etc. However, the script itself is slightly buggy. It does not check for clones by disregarding the ident. It also seems to have a problem getting the first person of a channel. Example, if there is one person in a channel, it won't show any nicks and if you have two people in a channel, it will only show one of those people. The readme.txt file was also not very descriptive. The script is very nice beginning though and is a nice concept.

Stock Quote Downloader

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Stock Quote Downloader 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Interesting socket script that allows you to look up the stock rates of a company or what not by entering the symbol. For example, AL is Alcan, MSFT is Microsoft etc. It also has a built-in search engine that allows you to look up the symbol of a company through its name. The addon automatically refreshes the data every 30 minutes or so. The original zip file will render another zip file with the actual addon and also some ascii files with the information on the scripting group that the author is part of, some setup instructions, etc. The addon itself is fairly easy to use, thanks to the nice dialogs windows. The script seems to work rather well and I actually find it to be quite useful. The only irritating point is that the dialog windows constantly reset themselves to their original positions after you click on one of the "action" buttons even if you moved it to somewhere else on your screen. In addition, you may have a large number of little dialog windows open at a time. Since they all ope

SuB mp3-List Creator

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: SuB mp3-List Creator 1.02

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon that lists your mp3s from a certain folder in a text file. There were setup instructions included in a readme file. The addon is supported through aliases and also the popup menu of the menubar. The addon is well down, but surprisingly enough, I was prompted for my mp3 directory twice when I first installed it. It seems to work relatively well though. You are asked for a nick and in the text file that the script creates, all the mp3 file names will be preceded by "!thenick". A suggestion I have for the author would be to allow the script to be installed into a directory other than mIRC's main directory. The use of $scriptdir would take care of that. For what it does, the addon should have had a few more features IMHO. Currently, it allows you to reset the mp3 list, auto update, etc. However, it should definitely support more than one directory. The coding is alright, eventhough the author could have profited from using local aliases and "return" instead of "halt" in some cases ... Howeve

SubSeven Protection

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: SubSeven Protection 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon meant for detecting port scans on port 1243, which is usually when someone attempts to scan you for sub7 and allows you to send a custom message back. Not really recommended. Addon script with fairly documentation. It allows itself to be loaded from a directory other than mIRC's main directory, which is good. It also contains popups and dialogs support for easy use. The script seems to work, eventhough there are a few areas to be improved. It will only monitor port 1243, which is sub7's default. However, the trojan/virii is pretty customizable, where ports are concerned, so I'm not sure as to how effective this would be. The script allows to send back a fake message, telling the scanner that you are infected anyways, no message at all, a "You're a lamer" message, a "I logged your IP message" or a custom one. However, a SOp from #Nohack informed me that such a script is not really recommended ... use at your own risk. A few suggestions for the author, if I may. Perhaps it would be a good

Swear Kicker

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Swear Kicker 3

Format: Win OS

Description: A swear-word kicker addon with several options that are easily configurable via dialog window through menubar or channel popups. It reacts to any channel's text, notice, and action for words that are specified. Five message levels and four actions may be selected. The only suggestion is a nicklist popup to facilitate the adding of users to the 'Unaffected Users List'. This is a very good script.
