Welcome to Slides! Slides is a self-contained Windows Screen Saver that reads images and other types of media from your computer and displays them using various effects. Its main purpose, however, is to illustrate the robustness of the Image Commander product. USES FOR SLIDES: One way to use Slides as a screen saver is to set the Directories path to a CDROM drive that has alot of images and/or video clips. For instance, if you have a Photo CD or the MS Video for Windows CD in drive D:, set the Database/Directories field to D:\*.*. If you have any version of Image Commander, Slides can use one of its databases for displayed images. You can specify certain formats that Slides will search for by use DOS file masks. For example: C:\IMGCDR\DATA\*.PCX;*.GIF;*.TIF This entry will cause Slides to display all PCX, GIF and TIFF files found in the C:\IMGCDR\DATA directory. You can also specify that subdirectories be searched by checking the appropriate box in the configuration window. IMAGE COMMANDER: Image Commander archives and catalogs various types of media into central databases (*.DCF) providing a thumbnail representation of each in order to quickly identify and locate image files. DCF databases are constructed using a variety of compression methods based on the type and nature of the media in order to optimize storage space. This unique feature allows you to combine image, sound and document data into one file while using the best compression method unique to each (i.e. JPEG, ADCPM, and LZW). Image Commander allows maximum flexibility to manipulate your images via Drag-n-Drop, Microsoft Mail integration, Scanner support and many other streamlined features designed to take the hassle out of managing graphics files. The sample database provided with Slides (SAMPLE.DCF) contains a small representation of the types of data Image Commander is capable of supporting. Although Slides was designed to work off databases created using Image Commander, you can configure it to continually scan any and all directories on you hard disk and use all supported images that it finds. ***NEW*** Image Commander 2.0 introduces ZIP file support allowing you to view and manage ZIP files as in they were DCF databases. This means you can produce a thumbnail representation of the contents of your ZIP files and easily locate specific files amounts a sea of compressed data!
