WEAPON SELECTION AND LOADING In addition to your machine gun, your Stormovik has ten hardpoints. Press the left or right arrow keys to highlight the hardpoint you want to change. Press the up and down arrow keys to change between available weapons on that hardpoint. Press Enter to continue. WAYPOINT MAP In your Stormovik, the map numbers your waypoints in the approach order. The Z key switches between waypoints. Be sure to end your mission at waypoint 3. Your mission objective is to destroy the enemies near waypoint 2. DEBRIEFING When you land at your destination airport, the mission ends and you are shown one of three images depicting your success. To end the mission unsuccessfully and await rescue, press Shift-C. CHANGING YOUR VIEW ANGLE Press the arrow keys on the keypad to change the direction you're looking out the cockpit. (Keyboard users: hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the keypad keys.) This lets you see in different directions, which is useful for spotting and targeting enemies. The crosshair in the center of the Head Up Display (HUD) shows you the direction your Stormovik is pointed. If you have a target lock and you change views, you lose your lock. CHANGING YOUR VIEW PERSPECTIVE There are many different view perspectives, some from outside of your Stormovik. See the "View" menus for a complete list of views and keyboard commands. TAKEOFF To take off, increase the throttle and pull back slightly on the stick. Press 5 to open the throttle to 100%. The controls are calibrated toward low-speed flying. Press key G after taking off to retract your landing gear. Well before you get to waypoint two, you should ease the throttle back to 15-30% (keys 2 or 3) extend your flaps (key V) and reduce your speed to 100-150 kph (use key B to apply your airbrakes) NAP OF THE EARTH FLYING There's only one way to fly a dozen miles over enemy territory without using all your weapons in self-defense before you reach your target, and that's to fly low as possible, Try to stay between 100-200 meters. LANDING Press key G to lower the gear or you'll crash. The gear symbol is visible in the lower left corner of your cockpit, below the plane outline, as three colored boxes- green if your landing gear is down and you are below 50 meters, red if your gear is up below 50 meters, gray if your gear is up above 50 meters, and yellow if your gear is down above 50 meters. To Land, follow this checklist: 1. Reduce your throttle (key 2). 2. Extend your flaps (key V). 3. Extend your gear (key G). 4. Reduce your speed to 100 - 150 kph (key B). 5. Line up on the runway, watch your speed. 6. Point your plane (the "w" on the HUD) at the end of the runway. 7. When you are over the runway press key B to slow down even more. 8. Touch down at 80 - 100 kph. NAVIGATION Your list of waypoints is available on the MAP (key F3) and it's visible when you first enter Stormovik. Waypoint 2 is your first destination. At the top center of the HUD is a < or > marker. When it is >, you should fly too the right. f it is <, fly to the left. <> means you are on course. Key Z changes your next waypoint. COUNTERMEASURES When an enemy spots you, the appropriate Search light comes on, telling you if the search is by radar or infrared. at the right hand side of your cockpit RED lights are for IR, ORANGE for Radar. If an enemy starts tracking you, the appropriate Tracking light comes on, telling you if the track is by radar or infrared. Turn on your jammers to scramble the enemy's target lock; key R for the infrared jammers, or key E for the radar jammers. If the enemy fires a guided missile at you, the appropriate Guidance light comes on, telling you if the target lock is on your radar or infrared signature. If it's a radar lock, quickly dump chaff by pressing key D. If it's an infrared lock, quickly drop a flare by pressing key F. If your countermeasures are successful, the color of the missile on your RWR changes. WEAPON TARGETING AND FIRING Select your weapon by pressing key Q or key W. The name of the selected weapon appears on your HUD in the lower left corner. Press key A to track the first available target on the left. Repeatedly pressing key A cycles through all the available targets from left to right, and then it starts over again on the left. When you're tracking a target, a circle appears over it on your HUD. You can only track targets in your field of vision, though you can change your view angle by pressing the cursor keys (keyboard users must press Ctrl and the cursor keys). When the target comes within range of your selected missile, a second circle appears on the tracking marker indicating you have a target lock. Guns do not give you a target lock, neither do empty hardpoints. Fire the weapon by pressing the fire button on the control device you're using. V-57 rockets are unguided and fire straight out from your Stormovik. AA-2s and AT-6's are fire-and-forget weapons. FLIGHT MENU OPTIONS Menus are available during flight to let you change various aspects of the simulation. Active options have check marks next to them. Some options can be selected with a keyboard command; these keys appear after the option on the menus in the game. To make a selection: 1. Press Esc to display the Menus. 2. Press the right or left cursor key to display each menu. 3. Press the up or down cursor key to highlight the option you want to select. 4. Press Enter to select that option.
