Over the last two years, the attendance at Internet Engineering Task
Force (IETF) Plenary meetings has grown phenomenally.  Approximately
38% of the attendees are new to the IETF at each meeting.  About 33%
of those go on to become regular attendees.

The purpose of this For Your Information (FYI) RFC is to explain to
the newcomers how the IETF works.  This memo also provides the mundane
bits of information which everyone who attends an IETF meeting should
know.  This FYI RFC is a product of the IETF Secretariat and the User
Services Area.

This memo provides information for the Internet community.  It does
not specify an Internet standard.  Distribution of this memo is
unlimited.

This announcement is sent to the IETF list and the RFC-DIST list.
Requests to be added to or deleted from the IETF distribution list
should be sent to IETF-REQUEST@CNRI.RESTON.VA.US.  Requests to be added
