liner notes for REcyclE typed out in a hurry, 10/22/97, circa 2:00am notes in general: ----------------- REcyclE is the end-result of composing tunes and then leaving them be for too long. you end up not appreciating what you had done to create them. you end up not appreciating their value. well i finally realized that i had eight songs that no one's ever heard, and perhaps should. i'm not promising greatness; not even technical prowess. but there's much here here i like, and that says a lot; i'm my own worst critic. "accidental" ------------ this would have been the tune for a demo i would have coded for Crash '97, had i actually done it, and had i actually gone. i also would have entered it into Music Contest 5, but alas, its final destination is here. still a groovy-weird tune tho. "squelch" --------- the tune i actually entered into MC5. it didn't even make it past the first round of judging. i can't imagine why. this is what happens when you combine the influences of the Chemical Brothers and Underworld. "progress (ruffcut)" -------------------- a remix of a minimalist classically-structured acid trance tune i did back in '94. it had no percussion whatsoever. i had always thought it deserved it. add a couple of years of waiting, some breakbeat samples, and voila. a new take on a theme. "del lunes" ----------- a remix i did a long time ago, of stinger's tune "autistic savant." it's got a nice swing beat. very Orb-inspired. "drift (darkside mix)" ---------------------- i don't remember where but i got a hold of some really neat acid chip-samples and started right away to substitute them into the original version of "drift" (a tune i did in '96). it ended up sounding like a speech-synthesizer gone awry. i loved the sound so much i embarked on a drastic remix of the tune. the result is quite dancable, and would probably do well in the Limelight in new york city (if the club were still in business that is). "horizons" ---------- i composed this a short time after i wrote a poem riding home on the train once. i looked out onto the horizon, and the scenery there seemed out of place somehow. like it didn't belong in a vastly man-made world. "fuzzy logic" ------------- i bought the 'kulma' CD by Panasonic. i sampled the heck out of it. then, i composed this, applying a far less minimalist method than they had on the album. "echo location" --------------- this would have been a tune on my CD-album, 'bINARY eXPANSION' but it just didn't seem to belong with the other 10 tunes i wanted to put on it. it was composed way back in december of 1996, a good month before i got a hold of the sample cd that inspired much of the work on the album. hence, the sound just wasn't as solid as the other tunes. it's been sitting lifeless on my hard drive since. it's still enjoyable, it its own way. (about the album: i'm seeking a record/distribution deal. no promises, but it should be *out there* someday soon.)
