-------------------------------------------------- ***Welcome to Version 1.0 of the MMCD*** -------------------------------------------------- The purpose of this readme.txt file is to update you on the latest additions or enhancements to the MMCD. On this version we would like to bring your attention to the following subjects ; Section 1 Windows 95 & Windows NT installation drivers Section 2 Printing Product manuals Section 3 FUN.EXE - 99 Games Section 4 Languages Section 5 ESS938 3D Driver Installation Section 6 DOS Driver Installation Section 7 Windows NT Version 4.0 Installation drivers Section 8 Trident 9685VGA Dos Utility Driver Install Section 9 OPTi931 DOS Only driver --------------------------------------------------------- SECTION 1 - WINDOWS 95 & WINDOWS NT INSTALLATION DRIVERS --------------------------------------------------------- Throughout the MMCD product gallery and product pages you will see buttons for the various installation drivers for DOS/Windows 3.1x/ Windows 95 and Windows NT. Installation drivers for DOS and Windows 3.1x programs are either "Install.exe" or "Setup.exe" programs. These are self-running applications which will appear on your screen when the relevant button is clicked with the mouse. However, Windows 95 & Windows NT installation drivers are Information files or ".inf" files. The Windows program itself acts as the application and searches for these information files. To give Windows 95 & Windows NT the location of these information files we have added these locations to the manual which accompanies this MMCD package. Alternatively you can look to the Plug 'n' Play page or go to the product page and click on either "Windows 95 Driver" or "Windows NT Driver", whereby a text screen will appear showing you the exact location. ------------------------------------ SECTION 2 - PRINTING PRODUCT MANUALS ------------------------------------- On a later version of the MMCD we will add a function button called "PRINT MANUAL". However, before this we are working on the process of adding different languages of manual. In the meantime you can either read the manual directly from the MMCD, or should you require a hard copy then you have three alternatives. 1 - First using Microsoft Word, open up & print the relevant product manual (the file name uses the product chipset number) from the directory called "Manual" (i.e. D:\manual\eng\1868v4.doc = English ESS1868 manual). The manuals contained on this version of the MMCD are as follows........ ("D" here represents the letter of your CD-ROM drive - change as necessary) Directory & file name Description --------------------- ---------------- - ENGLISH LANGUAGE MANUALS - D:\manual\eng\1868cs.doc ESS1868 Cost Saver Sound Card D:\manual\eng\1868v4.doc ESS1868/938 Sound Card D:\manual\eng\931v3.doc OPTi 931 Sound Card D:\manual\eng\931cs.doc OPTi 931 Cost Saver Sound Card D:\manual\eng\9685vga.doc MegaVision 3D Trident9685 VGA Card D:\manual\eng\ikit.doc Internet Phone Kit D:\manual\eng\launch.doc Willowpond Media Launcher D:\manual\eng\mrack.doc Willowpond Media Rack D:\manual\eng\presto.doc Willowpond Presto Arranger D:\manual\eng\waveed.doc Willowpond Wave Shaper D:\manual\eng\winchime.doc Willowpond Win Chime - GERMAN LANGUAGE MANUALS - D:\manual\ger\1868ger.doc ESS1868/938 Sound Card D:\manual\ger\mr_deu.doc Willowpond Media Rack D:\manual\ger\pa_deu.doc Willowpond Presto Arranger D:\manual\ger\ws_deu.doc Willowpond Wave Shaper (Note : For the Willowpond utilities there are only English versions of the manuals for Media Launcher & Win Chime applications) 2 - Secondly, you can use Microsoft Explorer (or possibly your own existing Web Browser)to view and print the manuals. These manuals have been converted to HTML format for this CD-ROM so you can read & print them in their entire form with screen dumps and pictures. For example, install and run Microsoft Explorer. Then go to FILE and then choose OPEN. Type the directory of your CD-ROM drive and then ENTER. You will then see a screen with all the contents of the MMCD on. Here you can open and print the following manuals from these locations.....(please note that if the manual continues over separate HTML files it's OK because at the end of the first file you will be presented with options to go to "NEXT PAGE" or "PREVIOUS PAGE" to view and print the manual in its entire form). ("D" here represents the letter of your CD-ROM drive - change as necessary) Location File -------- ----- - ENGLISH LANGUAGE MANUALS - D:\eng\txt\M5_1.htm OPTi931 Cost Saver manual D:\eng\txt\M5_2.htm ESS1868/938 manual D:\eng\txt\M5_3.htm OPTi931 manual D:\eng\txt\M5_6_1.htm Internet Phone Kit manual D:\eng\txt\M5_7.htm MegaVision3D Trident9685 VGA manual D:\eng\txt\M5_8.htm ESS Cost Saver 3D manual D:\eng\txt\T3_1.htm Willowpond MediaRack manual D:\eng\txt\T3_2.htm Willowpond Wave Shaper manual D:\eng\txt\T3_3.htm Willowpond Presto Arranger manual D:\eng\txt\T3_4.htm Willowpond Media Launcher manual D:\eng\txt\T3_5.htm Willowpond WinChime manual - GERMAN LANGUAGE MANUALS - D:\ger\txt\M5_2.htm ESS1868/938 manual D:\ger\txt\T3_1.htm Willowpond MediaRack manual D:\ger\txt\T3_2.htm Willowpond Wave Shaper manual D:\ger\txt\T3_3.htm Willowpond Presto Arranger manual 3 - Finally, we have converted all the English manuals to text format (without pictures or screen dumps), and you can open these with any notepad software or text editor. These manuals can be found under... This is because most of the games included in FUN.EXE also include sound tracks. The FUN.EXE file is an MSDOS based application which brings up a DOS based screen allowing you to access the 99 Games. Because the setup of this application may vary according to your particular system configuration you may experience some problems accessing the MSDOS screen...If you cannot access the list of games then please exit to DOS and at your CD-ROM drive prompt type FUN. This will activate the FUN.EXE application and allow you to run the games in MSDOS mode. (TIPS FOR WINDOWS ’95 USER’s) Ideally when you click the Fun.exe button the MS.DOS window with a list of games will appear within the MMCD window. From here you can run the games and then exit back to the MMCD/Windows environment when you’ve finished playing. However, if when you click the Fun.exe button, your computer exits Windows ’95 completely and goes to DOS, then this is not very user-friendly - as the MMCD program will also have been closed. But there is a solution. Close the MMCD and run MY COMPUTER. Open the directory associated with your CD-ROM drive and look for the application file named FUN (it will be a white box with a blue border). Click once on this file and then go to File.. and then choose Properties... Then choose Program and then Advanced... Mark/check the box called "Suggest MS-DOS mode as necessary". Then click on OK to finish. If, after this, you are still having problems - then once you’ve finished with MMCD, exit to DOS and go to your CD-ROM drive prompt and type FUN (Note : These games are freeware or shareware - As such, we do not guarantee the quality or compatibility of any game - We also reserve the right to with-hold any particular game due to it not being suitable for children, or it containing material which may be deemed disturbing to some audiences) --------------------- SECTION 4 - LANGUAGES --------------------- Our aim for the MMCD is to translate everything in to as many languages as possible. This obviously takes time & money, so in the meantime we've started with a few pages transated in German and Russian, and we hope you appreciate the efforts we've made so far. We further hope YOUR particular native language appears later on following versions of MMCD. ----------------------------------------- SECTION 5 - ESS938 3D DRIVER INSTALLATION ----------------------------------------- The ESS938 chipset supplies the 3D Spatializer technology to the ESS1868/ESS938 Sound Card. This chipset includes some software to add more control over the depth of the 3D effect as well as Treble and Bass control. On the MMCD there are buttons for the ESS938 3D Effect Software Control. There are separate buttons for Windows 3.1 and Windows '95. Clicking on these buttons will activate a program which will create directories and shortcuts on your system to add the application files "tonectrl.exe" (Win3.1) or "ctrl938.exe" (win95)to your desktop or taskbar. For the DOS application please exit to MSDOS mode and follow these instructions... ES938 DOS Driver Installation (only for the 3D model # 2306 - ES1868+ES938) 1. Create a directory "938DOS" on your hard disk. 2. Insert the MMCD in to your CD-ROM drive. Locate the file es938ctl.exe in the directory app\product\2\ess938\938dos\ on the MMCD and copy it to the hard disk directory "938DOS". DOS ES938 Control 1. Boot up the hard disk and log into the "938DOS" directory. 2. Type "ES938CTL / parameter" at the DOS prompt. The parameter is the optional functions of the ES938 3D-Sound Effect control. The syntax of the complete command is described as below : ES1868 + ES938CTL /S - Set Spatializer Level 0-Off, 1-Low, 2-Medium, 3-High /B - Set Bass Level (0 thru 7) /T - Set Treble Level (0 thru 7) e.g. "ES1868 + ES938CTL /S:3" means enable the highest 3D-Sound Effect. ----------------------------------- SECTION 6 - DOS DRIVER INSTALLATION ------------------------------------ For DOS only user's please refer to the file called "locate.txt" on this CD-ROM for location of the DOS only drivers & utilities. ------------------------------------------------ SECTION 7 - WINDOWS NT V4.0 INSTALLATION DRIVERS ------------------------------------------------ At the time of production of this version of the MMCD the majority of installation drivers for Windows NT 4.0 were still being developed or evaluated (apart from Trident 9685 VGA which is included). We suggest that if you require Windows NT 4.0 drivers then you contact your local sales representative or check out the web sites listed on the manual included with this package for release updates. ------------------------------------------------------ SECTION 8 - TRIDENT 9685VGA DOS UTILITIES INSTALLATION ------------------------------------------------------ Because the Trident ProVidia 9685 (MegaVision 3D) DOS Utilities are installed with a .bat file, please exit the MMCD and go to DOS prompt. From here go the the following directory on your CD... D:\app\product\7\9685vga\dosutl\ ("D" represents your CD-ROM drive letter - change as necessary) Then type 'readme' and the DOS utility installation program will begin. ------------------------------------ SECTION 9 - OPTi 931 DOS ONLY DRIVER ------------------------------------ If you're using DOS only then we've managed to write a DOS only based driver for the OPTi931 & OPTi Cost Saver sound cards. Please refer to the file called "locate.txt" for driver location. That's it for now. Enjoy MMCD and the products which accompany it.. Thank you
