TECHNICAL BULLETIN Bulletin #1-254 Date: October 17, 1989 Operating System Updates Found in NetWare Version 2.15, Revision C This bulletin explains some limitations experienced by users of NetWare v2.15, revision A. If you have experienced any of the following limitations, call 1 (800) UPDATE1. Be prepared to provide full details of your system. Operating System and External Bridge Routing Limitation The NetWare v2.15 operating system and external bridges have a router limitation. If eight or more file servers exist on an internetwork, every eighth server in the router table could be lost. If users attempt to log in to a fully functional file server, but some users receive the message "Unknown fileserver," you may have this limitation. Disk Mirroring Limitations 1) "ABEND: Invalid Redirection Index Table" You may have received the error above after using the REMIRROR command on a disk drive larger than 255MB. This has been solved--you will only receive this error message when something has actually happened to the Redirection Index table. 2) Previously, disk mirroring could not be used for disk drives greater than 255MB if the first volume had been assigned less than the default 255MB. In 2.15 revision C the installer is not limited to the default volume size on large disk drives. 3) If disk mirroring is occurring on a single disk coprocessor, a mirrored disk drive failure could take down the entire channel. This problem has been fixed--when a mirrored disk drive failure occurs, only the failed device is shut down. The rest of the channel is not affected. Removable Disk Drives 1) Directory caching on a removable hard disk drive can now be enabled without causing a GPI. 2) The DISMOUNT command will now free the memory allocated by the MOUNT command. (Previously, too many consecutive MOUNT and DISMOUNT commands would eventually hang the server.) 3) Multiple removable drives can now be mounted correctly.
