TECHNICAL BULLETIN Bulletin #1-271 Date: June 29, 1990 NetWare Utilities on NetWire Included with SFT, Advanced and ELS Level II NetWare v2.15 On June 10, 1990, several of the NetWare utilities of SFT, Advanced and ELS NetWare Level II v2.15 were replaced with the newer utilities currently on Netwire. Most of these newer utilities involved updating the released utilities to include the maintenance fixes that have been made available on NetWire during the past six months. Maintenance changes such as this are part of the normal product lifecycle. The following explanation lists the files that were changed, the file name on NetWire to download, and the reasons for the change. BINDFIX (BINDFX.ZIP) - BINDFIX v1.2 (dated 10-30-89) will not delete other files when executed under a 3.0 shell with dots enabled. (See Technical Bulletins 255 and 256) INSTOVL.OBJ (NSTOVL.ZIP) - When the operating system is redirected by HotFix due to bad media, it will not be located above 1024 cylinders. This will correct some problems with the NetWare cold-boot loader (dated 12- 07-89). ISADISK (ISADSK.ARC) - This ISA driver (v2.04 dated 02-01-90) is compatible with more drives and controllers than the older driver. LOGIN (LOGIN.ZIP) - LOGIN v2.10 (dated 07-28-89) no longer can set the password of an attached server to null when passwords are required on the attached server. The 386 LOGIN, which fixes this deficiency, replaced the 286 LOGIN. There are some small differences between the 286 and the 386 login which are documented in the README file. MAKEUSER (MAKUSR.ZIP) - MAKEUSER v1.02c (dated 05-14-90) will not delete other files when executed under a 3.0 shell with dots enabled. (See Technical Bulletins 255 and 256) MENU (MENU.ZIP) - MENU v1.23 (dated 10-04-90) completely unloads itself from memory. NE/2 Drivers (NE2.ZIP) - New certified and tested drivers (dated 11-29- 89) include AppleTalk support. These files comprise the LAN_DRV_109 disk. (See Technical Bulletin 260) NE1000 Drivers (NE1000.ZIP) - New certified and tested drivers (dated 12- 04-89 and 12-27-89). These files comprise the LAN_DRV_110 disk. (See Technical Bulletin 260) NE2000 Drivers (NE2000.ZIP) - New certified and tested drivers (dated 11- 29-89 and 12-27-89) include AppleTalk support. These files comprise the LAN_DRV_107. (See Technical Bulletin 260) NINSTALL (NNSTLL.ZIP) - NINSTALL (dated 10-04-89) no longer locks-up when updating the AT driver with the ISA driver under the default configuration option. (See Technical Bulletin 253) NETWARE OS/2 REQUESTER v1.2 (12REQ0.TXT, 12REQ1.ZIP, 12REQ2.ZIP, 12REQ3.ZIP, 12REQ4.ZIP, 12REQ5.ZIP, 12REQ6.ZIP) - Provides NetWare support for OS/2 version 1.2. NETWARE DOS SHELL FOR WINDOWS (DSWIN0.TXT, DSWIN1.ZIP, DSWIN2.ZIP, DSWIN3.ZIP, DSWIN4.ZIP) - Provides DOS shell and utility support for Windows v3.0 and support for loading the NetWare shell into expanded and extended memory. If you are installing Windows v3.0 on a client workstation, please follow the directions included with this package to replace some of the existing utilities. NVER (NVER.ZIP) - NVER v3.00 (dated 11-22-89) information is displayed correctly from 8088-based machines, nondedicated file server workstations, and Token-Ring installations. PRINTDEF (PRNTDF.ZIP) - PRINTDEF v1.11 (dated 02-14-90) can now copy print definitions from one user to another. SECURITY (215SEC.ZIP) - SECURITY v1.20 (dated 08-23-89) no longer uses a grace login from each user when it is run. (See Technical Bulletin 252) SYSCON (SYS233.ZIP) - SYSCON v2.33 (dated 04-02-90) now shows the correct amount of disk space each user is using. VOLINFO (VOLINF.ZIP) - VOLINFO v2.30 (dated 12-29-89) now encrypts passwords on-the-wire like other utilities. If you are having any problems that can be corrected by using these newer utilities please download the newer version from NetWire. Additional Information for NetWare v2.15 The following information is not included in the NetWare v2.15 manuals (revision 1.00). o If you are upgrading from NetWare version 2.1, 2.11, or 2.12 and have been using the required password length parameter, all user passwords will automatically expire to take advantage of increased security. Users must enter a new password to properly implement and improve their security. o When your password expires, the system will ask you to change it. If you are not attached to multiple servers, ignore the prompt to synchronize passwords by pressing to continue. o Ignore all references to the NETWARE VAP KEYBOARD LOCK and LAN_DRV_002 diskettes in the documentation. The LOCK.VAP program is no longer available. Novell and IBM drivers are contained on the LAN_DRV_001 diskette; all other drivers are available in the NetWare Supplemental Drivers Kit. o If you have a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) connected to your file server, be careful not to disconnect the cable. The system will identify a disconnection as a low-battery signal and down the server.
