Henter-Joyce, Inc. NEWSLETTER December, 1992 - Henter-Joyce is proud to present our first monthly newsletter. In it you will find lots of information, including customer participation, special sales, technical information and much more. If you have any ideas or thoughts you would like to share, send them in and we will try to include them in our newsletters. It will also be placed on our bulletin board (813-528-8903). BEST DEAL IN TOWN JAWS/Discover ACCENT SA - You can purchase this great combination for a special price of $995.00. Henter-Joyce had an opportunity to purchase a limited number of Discover Accent SA's at a special price which we are passing on to you, our customer's. The only difference between the regular Accent SA and the Discover is the casing is black and the word Discover is on the front. There is also no battery built into it, and the firmware isn't the latest version. You are getting the quality, portability and JAWS for less than the price of a New Accent SA. Order soon, quantities are limited, and with this price they are expected to go FAST! TECH BYTES WordPerfect 5.1 release date 3/9/92 (keyboard lockup) This particular release of WP5.1 has different keyboard handling which conflicts with JAWS. To remove this conflict use WP /nd to load, or put SET WP=/nd in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Quicken 5 (or 6) (keyboard lockup) Use Q /k to load Quicken. This will prevent the lockup when trying to move the highlight bar in the register screen. Procomm (stops talking after connecting) Set SNOW REMOVAL to ON in the Setup Menu, this causes Procomm to write thru BIOS, JAWS will speak all the data coming on the screen. HELPFUL HINTS Search Command Features: To search for an ASCII graphic character simply type a slash (\) followed by the number. (Example: \254). To search for a character without case sensitivity try using the X option. This is available on newer versions of JAWS, but not all. Manual Files: NEWFEATS.DOC is full of helpful information about JAWS 2.2. You will find it in your C:\JAWS\MANUAL\ directory. You will also find other manual files in this directory. All of these files are text files, and can be read using DOS's TYPE command, your favorite word processor, and any other text reader you might have. JAWS USER COMMENTS EASTMAN KODAK, Peter Fraser - "Thanks to JAWS ... we have been able to adapt a very complex computer input system to accommodate a completely blind employee. JAWS has enabled us to overcome challenges with color and very busy multiple task screens, and has created some positive career opportunities for our employees." 11/22/92 MARCEL LARIVIERE - "A former user of ITS, I found migrating to JAWS was a breeze. The JAWS Drop-Down Menus, for setting voice parameters, frame (window) dimensions, keyboard macros, ..., places JAWS ahead of any other screen reader I know. SMART SCREEN is presently my favorite feature." 11/7/92 JOHN R. VAUGHN - "...I have been compelled to write after completing your training tapes on JAWS Two and Word Perfect 5.1. Congratulations on a job well done. I look forward to your upcoming tapes on JAWS 2 and Lotus 1-2-3. I would urge you to be sure that JAWS users are aware of these training tapes...I keep all of my tapes close at hand as a reference. Tone indexing makes it easy to find material I need to review." 1/21/92 MISCELLANOUS FOUND - In the Henter-Joyce Suites after the hospitality party at the Florida State NFB Convention in Orlando, a wooden duck planter.
