        Thanks for trying our game. Over one year of design and development
        went into the making of
        Dink SmallWood. Have fun playing it! Dink SmallWood is more than just
        a game, it has been
        designed so that others can create new worlds and adventures for it.
        This updated shareware
        version of Dink includes the first two towns - that's about one third
        of the full version (well,
        except that you miss out on 18 splendid audiotracks and great
        cinematics!).
                                                                                     
        The full sales version of Dink comes with a complete adventure
        toolkit, map editor, script
        compiler and graphics library in .BMP format, plus the ability to run
        user made adventures
        called DMOD's (Dink MODules).
                                                                                     
        The demo save games are compatible with the sales version (to avoid
        interrupted play, simply

        DinkEdit is a development tool that let's you create your own DMOD's,
        keep in mind that DinkEdit

        TROUBLESHOOTING
        -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
        * The game won't start
                                                                                     
        Make sure all application programs in Windows 95 (word processor,
        spreadsheet, game or
        any other program) have been shut down. If any program remain
        activated, play may become
        extremely slow, you may generate system malfunctions and your computer
        may crash.
                                                                                     
        If you use such programs that start running automatically when Windows
        95 is loaded as
        anti-virus programs, screen savers or sound utilities, be certain you
        shut them down. If
        them remain activated, the game may not operate properly.
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
        * The game stopped and kicked me back to Windows
                                                                                     
        Certain network programs (such as Mirabilis ICQ(tm) may crash Dink
        SmallWood. Bad memory
        management may be another cause - make sure that your hard drive has
        enough free space,

                                       
        and that its not fragmented (use Microsoft Defrag to check
        fragmentation).
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
        * The game pauses occasionally
                                                                                     
        This is due to the fact that Windows 95 simulates memory on the hard
        drive when there
        is not enough physical memory is available. Check your Windows 95
        virtual memory
        configuration or install more RAM in your PC (32 MB is recommeded).
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
        * CD-ROM access error
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
        A blue screen CD-ROM access error might be a symptom of one of these
        problems:
                                                                                     
        * Dirty or scratched CD
        * Removal of the CD from the computer while Dink SmallWood was running
        or paused
        * A CD-ROM drive having trouble reading the disc (make sure that your
        CD-ROM drive is not
        defective)
                                                                                     
        First, check your CD for any dirt, fingerprints, smudges or scratches.
        To clean your CD,
        wipe it gently with a soft cloth (move in smooth strokes from the
        center to the outer
        edge of the CD). If your CD looks fine, then replace it in the drive
        and see if the
        the problem persists. If you are still having problems, you may have a
        bad copy
        of the disc, a CD-ROM drive that is having trouble running the game,
        or your CD-ROM is
        not properly installed in Windows 95.
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
        * CD detection error
                                                                                     
        If you have more than one CD-ROM drive installed in your computer, or
        if you are using a
        CD-ROM changer, the game will NOT detect the CD if it isn't residing
        in the first or
        primary CD-ROM drive or CD-ROM changer slot. This problem is due to
        the way Windows 95
        handles and plays "redbook" CD music. Windows 95 is not able to play
        CD music unless you
        play from the primary or first CD-ROM drive.

                              Dink Smallwood README.TXT        * Older Genius mouse drivers do not work properly with with Direct X.
        Please check the
        Genius website for updated mouse drivers.
                                                                                     
        * Some systems may exhibit strange behaviour such as MIDI loss or
        screen flicker if the
        game is started without the Dink SmallWood CD in the CD-ROM drive, if
        this is the
        case, please restart Dink and make sure the CD is properly inserted.
                                                                                     
        * Videoplayback may not work correctly with BETA versions of Windows
        98. In this case, we
        advise that you run Dink from the command prompt with the -nomovie
        parameter.
                                                                                     
        * If monsters seem to be moving WAY too fast, hit <Alt-D> while
        playing to enable debug
        mode. If the FPS counter are > 120, chances are your video card is not
        responding to
        the DirectDraw "Wait until refresh" command - this screws up Dink's
        timing (happened
        with one Mystique we tested it on).
                                                                                     
                                                                                     
        To fix it: Run DXINFO and UNCHECK 'DirectDraw Hardware Enabled'.
        Getting the latest
        videocard drivers may also work.
                                                                                     
        * The latest MACH64 video drivers directly from ATI may not work
        correctly with
        DirectDraw - reinstalling the drivers with DirectX fix this.
                                                                                     
        * At the intro screen if the pointer moves uncontrollably:
        It can be controlled with the keyboard, mouse, joystick or gamepad,
        make sure none of
        these are being accidently held down, etc.
                                                                                     
        * If you have Powertoys installed and are having 'Insert CD' errors,
        disable Powertoys CD
