PAGE 1 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE GETTING STARTED This Program does NOT make allowances for :shortages ,breakage,shrinkage ,rooms being out of square,roll goods not having square ends, narrow widths ,such as manufacturing tolerances,inaccurate measurements, inaccurate computer input,human error of any kind or hardware malfunction or hardware incompatibility Pattern match allows 1 match for every other seam per room ,1 match for each piece used from 1 room to another. Patterm match is for length only and does not deal with width. If additional allowances are desired, you may enter (for example) 19 or 20 inches for a 18 inch pattern match. 12 by 12 for a room that is 11 ft 10 inches by 11 ft 10 inches IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU READ ALL PAGES AND TRY SOME EXAMPLES OF YOUR OWN TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE WAY THIS PROGRAM WORKS AND HANDLES DIFFERENT THINGS TEST YOUR RESULTS Page 2 Step 1 Measure the areas you want covered length and width (and ceiling height if you are covering walls) If you are using floor covering be sure to measure into doorways Measure doors and windows. Note if they are on outside walls or inside. Count how many of each size. If you are using carpet Measure your stairs,width,tread length and rizer height. DOS (2.0 or later ) at the DOS prompt A> type in TAKEOFF and wait for program to be loaded. After COPYRIGHT NOTICES appears and you read screen press enter and you will be prompted to ENTER DRIVE FOR DATA FILES ? FOR 1 DISK DRIVE ENTER A : FOR 2 DISK DRIVE ENTER B FOR FIXED HARD DISK ENTER C APROX LIMIT FOR 1 DISK DRIVE IS 75 TO 80 ROOMS FOR MATERIAL TYPE 1 AND 2 SENCE THE PROGRAMS USE MOST OF THE SPACE ON A 360 KB DISK APROX LIMIT FOR 2 DISK DRIVE USING 360 KB DISKETTE FOR MATERIAL TYPE 1 OR 2 IS 10 TAKEOFFS WITH 250 ROOMS EACH MATERIAL TYPES OTHER THAN 1 AND 2 USE LESS SPACE ON YOUR DISK OR DISKETTE FIXED OR HARD DISK IS LIMITED BY THE SIZE AND CAN HOLD MORE IF YOU ARE USING A HARD DISK IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU MAKE A DIRECTORY ON YOUR HARD DISK BY TYPING IN AT THE PROMPT C>MD\TAKEOFF THEN PRESS ENTER NEXT TYPE IN C>CD\TAKEOFF THEN COPY PROGRAM DISKETTE FROM DRIVE A TO C BY TYPING A: THEN AT PROMPT A>COPY *.* C: AFTER ALL FILES ARE COPIED STORE THE PROGRAM DISK IN A SAFE PLACE TYPE IN C: THEN AT PROMPT C>TAKEOFF press enter to continue Page 5 Step 3 Enter material type and sizes NOTE (added 10/86 + or - in file number will scan existing files) Now you must enter file number for your take off.and press enter or F9 to review what is already in file. if none are on the disk you have selected enter 1 and start entering the information requested by prompt and press enter. when you get to ENTER OPTION you may enter 5 to go back and make changes Step 4 Enter room sizes When you get to ENTER OPTION you may enter 1 and press enter and go to room size menu If room sizes are already in file they will be displayed 16 at a time Enter A to add if some room sizes are already in file Enter C and press enter to change them Enter + in length ft. field to repeat size of previous room Press F6 or ESC in length ft. field to end changes press F6 or ESC to return to material type menu Enter D and press enter to delete them X is delete code Enter N and press enter to display the next 16 rooms If in file Enter P and press enter to display the previous 16 Page 6 NOTE X in delete code in room,door,window & stairs does not remove the record it just de-activates it Step 5 enter doors window and stairs From ENTER OPTION on material type menu Enter 2 and press enter to enter or edit doors Enter 3 and press enter for windows Enter 4 and press enter from stairs For all of these the procedure is much the same as Page 4 Step 4 NOTE for doors and windows At prompt OUTSIDE ? Doors are assumed to be outside unless Y is entered Windows are assumed to be outside unless N is entered X deactivates record On both doors and windows inside means it is connected to another room you have entered for your Takeoff Allowances are made 1 time for outside 2 times for inside Base board or cove base is only deducted for doors So if you have a window that goes all the way to the floor and you dont want to include base for it enter it as a door NOTE see page 6 for other information about doors windows and stairs Page 7 NOTES When your information is processed Stairs are ignored if material type is NOT 1 or 2 CAUTION if you have entered stairs and process your takeoff for carpet and change material width to process for wall paper in the same areas you must enter 0 in number of stairs or you will end up with enough wall paper to cover your stairs Windows are ignored if you have not entered Y to WALLS Prompt in areas covered If you have entered Y to prompt ARE ALL WALLS THE SAME HEIGHT ?,then ALL ceiling heights in ALL rooms are assumed to be the same as room 1 north wall Doors windows and stairs are ignored if material type 8 is entered If you want to pour a slab enter material type 8 and enter 1 room.
