I. Getting Started
All you need to get CHR$ ANSI 1.0 running is Windows 3.x or '95 and VBRUN300.DLL. You can begin running this program from the DOS prompt if you wish or you can run it from Windows. No other special steps are required. This program does not copy any files to your computer. To uninstall the program, simply delete the files that came with it. These are: CHR$ANS1.EXE, CHR$ANS1.HLP,
CHR$ANS1.TXT and a FILE_ID.DIZ. There is no .INI file with this program.

II. Overview
Programmers/fancy text creators dream tool for CHR$ strings and extended ANSI. You can quickly generate source code for all of the ANSI character set 0-255. At the same time, the actual characters are placed in another box. The basic keyboard characters are ingeniously set up exactly like a standard keyboard. The program functions much like a standard word processor in a way that you can use the mouse for all keyboard functions. This is great when you have a few keys that are stuck!
A full clipboard interface is provided for easy interfacing with text documents or your
development package. Also included is a drop down box for arithmetic, comparison, and logical operators (+, <=, And, XOR, etc.) as well as custom symbols for your code.

III. How To Use
	A. Starting the program: Start the program by typing CHR$ANS1 from the DOS directory of where you placed the program or double click on the CHR$ANS1.EXE file name from the Windows File Manager/Explorer or double click on the programs icon if you assigned it one. You will see a delay when you start the program, which can be removed by purchasing the program for $7.50. See the end of this help document for more info or read the info displayed when the program loads up. Exit the program by pressing CTRL-Q or selecting File|Exit.
	B. The Interface: The interface consists of a set of clickable buttons, two output boxes, and popup menus.
	C. The Buttons: From the near middle of the screen to the bottom, you are presented with a graphical depiction of a standard PS/1 keyboard. If you click on any of these buttons, you will see the ANSI character value of the button appear in a text box at the near top of the screen. You may opt to use your keyboard instead of the mouse. To do this, hold down the ALT key and the key character you wish to display. For the letter characters you press the ALT key while pressing the letter twice if you desire to display lowercase letters then press the SPACE BAR or ENTER. Most of the buttons you press or click will also cause the actual character to appear in the text box in the middle of the screen. Buttons that will not do this are 8-BACKSPACE, 10-LINEFEED, and 13-CR (Enter). These buttons will, however, still allow their value to be displayed in the upper text box. Additionally, the TAB and SPACE buttons will do what they should in the second text box, which is for TAB move 5 spaces and for SPACE move 1 space. Their values will also be displayed in the upper text box. Note that when these boxes fill up, you can scroll down through them with the SCROLL BARS to the right of each box or press the CLEAR button in each box to remove its contents.
The other buttons on the top and to the left and right sides of the screen with the "funny characters" on them will do the same thing, which is display their value in the top text box and display their character in the other text box.
	D. The Output (text) Boxes: There are two output/text boxes on the screen, each with a COPY, PASTE, and CLEAR button. The top text box has 1 additional button, an internal text box, and a drop down list. These are the Private Symbol button, the Private Symbol internal text box, and the OPERATORS drop down list.
The text box on top displays the values of the buttons you select. The most use of this feature will be gained by people who use products like Visual Basic. This box acts like a mini word processor, as you can type directly in the box, copy text to the clipboard with the COPY button, and paste text from the clipboard with the PASTE button. You can also mark the text and use CTRL-C to copy, CTRL-X to clear/copy, and CTRL-V to paste. The marked text can be erased with the CLEAR button, or marked and cleared with the DELETE key. This can be very useful for VB programming. An example would be to type in something like "Command1.caption =" then clicking on whatever you want the caption to equal. Clicking the Private Symbol button will, by default add a "+" to what is already in the top text box. The reason the option is called Private Symbol is so that you can have your own statement text there. To add your own text there, click on the box where the "+" is displayed next to the Private Symbol button and enter your text. There is no specific limit to how much text you can put in there, but you will only be able to see 2 or 3 character at the time. Once you have typed in the text, you can the press the Private Symbol button and your text will be displayed in the top text box in addition to what is already in there. The Private Symbol button does not affect the text box in the middle of the screen.
The OPERATORS drop down box contains a list of 22 arithmetic, comparison, and logical operators. If you click on the downward arrow attached to this box, these operators will be displayed. You can scroll through them using the scroll box that will appear after clicking on the downward arrow. When you see an operator you would like to add to the top text box, click on it and it will appear.
The text box in the middle of the screen receives the direct character represented by each button. It works the same as the top text box in that you can copy and paste and clear using the buttons within that box.
	E. The pop up menus contains the options to exit the program, access help, and display about information. They can be accessed with the mouse by clicking on FILE or HELP in the upper left of the screen. They can be accessed with your keyboard by hitting the ALT key alone then navigating with the arrow keys.
