[CDBWIN] CDBASEWIN! (John Cillis; $20) - helps you manage your CDs, cassettes, and record albums. It can handle collections of up to 16,000 records. Requires VBRUN200. [CDMS12] CDMaster 1.2 (Simplicity Computers; $11) is a music CD catalog and playback program. [CDP] CD Player for Windows 2.02 (Graphical Bytes, Inc.; $30-$45) is a desktop audio CD player for Windows 3.1. It allows you to catalog title, artist, and selected tracks on up to 4 compact disks. The graphic interface is styled after a home CD player, complete with push-button controls, an elapsed/ remaining time display, track indicator, and more. It can play ranges of tracks, a whole CD, or selected tracks and also features a Position Locator which allows you to jump to any specific spot on the disk. When minimized, the program's icon displays the current track playing and track time. What excited us most about CD Player for Windows is its ability to catalog disks. Most CD players let you program tracks, but the process is usually less than intuitive. This program lets you easily catalog a disk, create a playlist by clicking on selected tracks with a mouse, and have that information displayed the next time you insert the CD. This is an excellent way to get even more enjoyment from your CD-ROM drive. Requires VBRUN200. [CDPLAY34] CDPlayer 3.4 (Jupiter Software ASP; $35) allows you to play audio CDs in Windows. It has all the basic features of a home CD player, along with extensive catalog functions. The disc catalog lets you input disc name, composer/artist, music type, disk reference, and individual track details. A DOS version is also included, and the catalog is fully compatible with the Windows version. Other features include on-screen volume and balance controls, word search capabilities, elapsed and remaining time display, and much more. [CDPLY] CD Player 1.1 turns your MPC compatible computer and CD ROM drive into a full function audio CD player. Features include mouse-based track programming, random play, repeat track/program/CD, and more. Requires WIN31, Windows audio CD MCI driver, and VBRUN300. (TARDIS DP Consultants, reg. fee: $8) [CDROM2] CDROM2.SET (Summers, Harvey E.; $0) is a text file that describes how to get up to 624K free RAM after loading CD-ROM drivers. It includes commented examples of AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files. [CDSOUND] CD SoundOff 1.0 (NickelWare; $?) - is an audio CD player for Windows. C source code is included. [CDTRAY] CD Tray 2.0 (JenJen Software, reg. fee: $38) is an audio CD player that can also store information about your CD library into a categorized and sorted database. The program's powerful features are somewhat marred by the interruption during play to "remind" you to register. Requires WIN31, 2meg RAM, VGA, and a hard disk. [CDW200] CD Wizzard 2.00 (BFM Software; $16) is a audio CD player for Windows 3.1. It provides many features of a home CD player including fast forward, reverse, skip, track programming, real-time digital display and more. Requires a CD-ROM drive. [HITLINE] HitLine for Windows 1.0 (Dieter & Jurgen Schmitz, reg. fee: $0) is a multi-functional audio CD-Player/Database. It stores Artist, Title, Tracks, Length, etc. in a high-speed BTREE-Database. [HYPERCD] HyperCD 1.001.004 is a small audio CD player for Windows. [JAMMIN] Jammin 1.01 (AJ Thompson, reg. fee: $5.00) is a CD player that has the look and feel of a real player. There are four status displays that tell you the current track, length of track, elapsed track time and the current status of the program itself (playing, stopped, etc.). [MPCD10] MicroPlayerCD 1.01 is an audio CD player which features a stay-on-top control panel, a disc catalog database, a track and disc name display, volume control, and more. (Daniel Thomas, reg. fee: $23) -----Converters [ADP110] Wave to ADPCM Converter 1.1a (Daniel Rocha, reg. fee: $10) converts between any 16 bit WAV file and a corresponding ADP file. [MAKWAVE] Makin' Waves (Lange, Sean and Geoff; $0) converts VOC, SOU, and SND files to Windows 3.1 compatible WAV files. Double-clicking on a WAV file in the file list loads the file into SoundRecorder. Several hilarious digitized sound files from the "Ren and Stimpy" cartoon are included. VBRUN is included. [SNDCONV] SndConv $0 is a DOS app for converting sound files between WAV and VOC formats. [TRIXWAVE] Trix Wave 2.1 (Faustino, Patrick; $10) converts VOC, SND and MAC files to Windows 3.1 WAV format. It supports 8-, 12-, and 16-bit files at rates from 4khz to 44.1khz, stereo and mono. [WAVCONV] WavConv 1.0 (Curran, James M.; $0) converts WAV, VOC, SND (Wired for Sound and DScound), VMF (VoiceMaster) files. The sampling frequency and the title of the sound clip can be modified during conversion. [WAVEIT] WaveIt (MediaVision; $0) converts .SOU, .SND, and .VOC files to Windows 3.1 .WAV format. -----Drivers/Other [LL1, LL2] Lyric Launcher 2.0 is a teleprompter that colorfully and graphically displays song lyrics and chord symbols. Requires WIN31. (LyricSoft, reg. fee: $25) [SBW31] Sound Blaster Drivers (Creative Labs; $0) - contains updated Windows 3.1 drivers for Sound Blaster boards versions 1.5 and 2.0. These must be installed from a floppy disk. [SNDSRC] SndSrc (Ridges, John; $?) is a Windows 3.1 driver for the Disney Sound Source. [SDXAMPL] Sound Dialog Examples 1.0 (CheckBox Software; $0) lets you check the WAV sounds assigned to system events in Windows 3.1. You simply click one of the buttons ("Asterisk/Information", "Critical Stop", "Exclamation", or "Question") to see a sample dialog box and hear your assigned sound. VBRUN is required. [SPEAKR] Speakr (Ridges, John; $0) is a replacement for the Win31 speaker driver, except that it does not disable interrupts, so you can safely run comm programs, maintain network connections, etc. With this driver, you can play WAV files on the PC's speaker. [STHINGW] SThing (Ridges, John; $0) is a Windows driver for the Covox Speech Thing. [WAVINFO] Wave Info 2.0 (PCkS Associates; $7) provides extensive information about WAV files. You simply drag a sound file from File Manager onto the program's icon. Sound files may also be played. [WAVSORT] WavSorter 3.0 (Shepherd Software; $19) provides an intuitive way to sort sound files into Macintosh-like folders.You can easily assign directories from any valid drive to a folder. Sound files can then be copied or moved using a simple drag and drop method. Other features include a jukebox mode, drag and drop file deletion, built-in sound effects, and more. This is an excellent way to organize your sound file collection. Requires WIN31 and VBRUN300. -----Editors [WAVEEDIT] Wave Editor 1.04a (Starlite Software Company; $30) allows you to input, create, modify and analyze 8-bit monaural WAV sound files. Editing features include cut and paste, fades, filters, echo, fourier transforms, insertion of waveforms, and much more. This is a professionally-done package with many powerful options. [WAVES] WaveS 1.6b (Station Software, reg. fee: $30) is a demo of a sound file editor that's fast and easy to use with many advanced features. [WAVPOOL] WavePool 1.0a (Data Assist, Inc.; $35) lets you create Sound Blaster compatible VOC sound effect files. You use a text editor to make the sound parameter files using a C-language like syntax (although you do not have to be a programmer to use WavePool). [WINTAB] WinTab 386/387 3.10 (Nelson, Scott D.; $0) is a waveform creation and editing program for 386/387's. Input may be provided by reading files, using the mouse, using the function generator, or using the graphics tablet. Output is provided using the clipboard as metafiles, bitmaps, or text, or to the disk in an external file format. [WMAKER] WavMaker 1.06 (Tony Azevedo, reg. fee: $?) will generate WAV files with pure sine or square wave tones. It does not require a sound card and is not a WAV player. -----MIDI [CATPLAY] Catsplayer 2.11 (Abeln, Christian; $25) is a MIDI/WAV player for Windows 3.1. It features a drag and drop interface for creating a list of songs/sounds to be played.It can also provide information about WAV files including sample rate, size, duration, and number of A/D bits. This is a fun and easy-to-use utility. [DDJ] Digital Disk Jockey (Shady Tree Software; $10) is a MIDI jukebox. It allows you to create a queue of music files and play them in random order. Over 40 MIDI files are included. A MIDI-equipped sound card is required. [MIDIJB] MIDI JukeBox 1.08 (Pocket-Sized Software; $5) lets you play multiple MIDI or WAV files. Files can be played once or in a continuous loop. [MIDIKEY] MIDIKeys 1.5 (Playroom Software; $0) displays a small piano keyboard on your desktop. It can play single notes through the internal PC speaker, and full chords through a sound card or MIDI device. Other features include note bending options, sound program selection, velocity adjustments, and more. [MIDIPLAY] MIDIPlay 1.5 (DunsonWare; $5) - is a graphical MIDI player for WIN31. VBRUN100 and ToolBook runtime 1.53 is included. [MIDIPMM] MIDI Player for MultiMedia (Asensio, Pete; $0) lets you play one or more MIDI files in the background on MultiMedia equipped PC's. VBRUN required. [MSCULPT] Music Sculptor 1.1 (Aleph Omega Software; $30) is a MIDI sequencing package for Windows. It allows you to record and play music using an external MIDI keyboard or the on-screen keyboard and a mouse. Editing controls allow you to cut/copy/paste measures, adjust volume and pitch, name tracks, adjust tempo and time signature, change MIDI channels, and more. A MIDI interface or Windows sound card is required. Several sample music files are included. [NT_MJB] MIDI Jukebox for Windows NT 1.04 (Pocket-Sized Software, reg. fee: $5) allows you to play multiple MIDI and WAV files. [WINJAMMR] WinJammer 2.23 (McKee, Dan; $50) is a full-featured MIDI sequencer/editor for Windows 3.1/MME. It reads and writes in standard MIDI file format, which makes it compatible with a wide variety of retail music packages. The program features very powerful editing commands, and a unique piano roll-style notation for editing. MIDI Edit can also import Ad Lib ROL files, and a MIDI file player is included which allows songs to be played in the background. A MIDI metronome is provided, as well as two options to control the sending of MIDI clocks and MIDI Start/Stop/Continue messages. Other features include up to 64th note resolution, a smart Rewind/Fast Forward function, 64 recording tracks, support for MIDI system exclusive bulk dumps, support for the Gravis UltraSound card, and much more. Full on-line help is included, along with some sample MIDI files. A MPU-401 compatible MIDI interface and MIDI keyboard are required. -----Sound File Players/Schedulers [ADLIBWV] AdLibWv (Ridges, John; $0) lets you play WAV files on an Ad Lib (or compatible) card that doesn't have DAC chips. [AUDIOBR] Audio Browser V1.00 (Dilger, Bryce; $5) is a WAV file browser/player for Windows 3.1. It allows you to quickly play a sound file and view its waveform. It also provides frequency and resolution information. VBRUN is required. [AUTOWAV] AutoWave 1.0 (OsoSoft; $0) lets you play a WAV file by simply double-clicking on the filename in File Manager. Requires WIN31, a sound card, a mouse, and a hard disk. VBRUN200 is also required. [BN10] Background Noise 1.0 is an audio media player for Windows NT which supports CD Audio, WAV, and MIDI files. It features random play, hot keys to control the program from anywhere within NT, and editing capabilities. (P & J's Software, reg. fee: $?) [BOING1] Boing! 1.0 (Hayes, Bob; $5) allows you to assign a WAV file to its icon for instant playback by pressing the right mouse button. Sound files may also be dragged and dropped from File Manager, and multiple instances of the program are allowed. [CART] Cart Machine 1.0 (Burley, Ron; $0) is a WAV file player for Windows 3.1. It uses a "radio station cart machine" type interface, which lets you load and play up to five sound files in a row. VBRUN is required. [CHATTR] Chatter 1.2 (Sawbuck Software; $5) is a sound file scheduler for Windows 3.1. You simply tell the program which sound files you wish to play and at what interval, and it runs in the background as an iconized pair of lips. WAV and SND files are supported. [D_SOUND] D-Sound $0 is a simple application to play digitized sound files on a PC's speaker. Frequency and volume are user adjustable. The quality doesn't not begin to compare to playing the same files on a Sound Blaster, but are pretty good for a PC. VBRUN required. VB source code included. [DOE] Homer's DOE! is a little app whose only purpose is to play a Simpson sound. For dedicated Simpson fans only. [DROPIT] Drop It! 0.7b (Shojaee, Hamid; $0) is a drag and drop WAV and MID file player. You simply drag a file onto the program's icon to start playing. Up to 255 files may be set up to play, and a loop function is provided to repeat songs. [LMMC] Logicil MultiMedia Center 1.0 a (Logicil; $45) - an audio/video player for WIN31. Supports WAV, MIDI, AVI, FLI files, has an audio CD player, and more. Requires VBRUN200. [MED_PLAY] MediaPlayer 1.0 is a quick and easy multimedia player for WAV sound files and AVI video clips. Several sample files are included. Requires VBRUN300. (Ward Mundy Software, reg. fee: $15) [MEDPLAY] Media Player (TEK* Development; $25) is a player for Wave, MIDI, FLI and FLC files. [MMJUKE] MultiMedia JukeBox 3.0 (Dan Fox, reg. fee: $5) is designed to play MIDI, WAV, and AVI files while you are working in other Windows or DOS applications. It can play musical tunes on demand, or at start-up from command line specifications. It includes a timer which can start the program at a specified time. [SNDWAVE] SoundWAV (New Eden MultiMedia; $45) allows you to select and randomly change Windows 3.1 System Sounds. Several WAV files are included. VBRUN100 is required. [SNDR_DB] Sounder (Bourgeois, David; $0) can randomly play .WAV files at a specified timed interval or you can play any sound file on demand. It also provides a direct access to the WIN31 Sound Recorder for quick editing of sounds. VBRUN is required. [SONOWAV] SonoWave 1.0 (OsoSoft; $0) is a WAV file view/play utility. [SURFSUP] Surf's Up! 3.5 (AddSoft; $15) lets you attach your favorite WAV file to any program. It will work with sound cards or a speaker driver. This is a great way to add some fun to your desktop. Requires VBRUN200. [SYSWAVE] SysWave 1.0 (Jordi Albornoz; $0) - a simple multimedia Windows 3.1 utility that plays the Windows system sounds at your request. [VPLAYW] Voice Blaster Jr. for Windows 2.3 (Millennium Software Products; $20) allows you to queue up and play any combination of WAV/MID/AVI sound files in Windows 3.1. It can run minimized and play sound files in the background while you are running other programs. Requires a Windows compatible sound card. [WAVAWAV] Wave After Wave 2.5 (Saladino, Ben; $15) allows you to easily play digitized WAV files. You can listen to individual sound files, or use the auto-play feature to play all the files in a directory. When iconized, you can drag WAV files from File Manager onto the program's icon to play them. Other features include the ability to play MIDI files, and CD audio tracks. [WAVEPLA] WavePlayer (Atlantic Microsystems; $?) is a fast-opening WAV sound file player. A sound card capable of reproducing digitized sound files (such as the Pro Audio Spectrum or Sound Blaster) is required. This is a very quick and easy way to preview sounds. Several sample WAV files are included. VBRUN is required. [WAVER] Waver 1.0 (Checkbox Software; $0) lets you launch a WAV file and have it played immediately. Otherwise, it will only be loaded into memory with the Sound Recorder and you have to take additional steps to play it. Requires VBRUN. [WAVFX] WavFX (Sawbuck Software; $10) provides instant access to your favorite sound files. Multiple groups of WAV files can be created by simply dragging and dropping a file onto one of six buttons. It lets you record messages to yourself and have them play back automatically when you start Windows. A sound card with recording and playback capability is required. VBRUN300 is also required. (Disk & Desk Software, reg. fee: $15) [WHOOP] Whoop it Up! 3.0 (Advanced Support Group, Inc.; $32) lets you define new sound events for Windows 3.1. You can add digitized WAV sounds or MIDI files to many system events, including minimizing/ maximizing applications, MessageBox icons, and more. You can also attach full-motion AVI animation to system events. (Microsoft video drivers are required.) [WINMODP] WinMod PRO 0.02 beta 2 (DweebSoft; $?) is a MOD file player for Windows 3.1. Two sample sound files are included. MOD files are a combination of several high-quality digital samples that are sequenced on four audio tracks. This results in infinitely higher quality sounds than FM synthesizers found on sound cards. Requires a sound card.
