[XANTIP] Xantippe (Lai, Rodney; $15) is a hypertext/hypergraphics authoring system for Windows. Xantippe can be used to create RTF files for the SDK Help compiler to create a Windows help file, or as an outliner for organized information. The documentation for the program comes in the form of a Windows Help file, along with the file used to create it via Xantippe. -----Spelling/Grammar Checkers [SPELLCHK] SpellChk 2.0 is a Windows 3.1 spell checker which accepts text from the clipboard or a text file. It also will monitor text as it is being entered. A 50,000 word dictionary is included. Other features include private dictionaries, suggested corrections to unrecognized words, support for WinATO (a Windows shell for AutoSig), and more. (Ray Saunders, reg. fee: $25) [SPL_DICT] SpellCheck Dictionary is a 100,000 word dictionary for users of SpellChk as an optional replacement for the standard 50,000 word dictionary supplied with shareware version. (Ray Saunders, reg. fee: $?) [SPELSNT] Spelling Sentry 1.1 (Wintertree Software Inc.; $25) is a spelling-checker for Windows 3.1. It can check and correct the spelling of words in Windows Write files, text files, and the clipboard. Features include support for three types of user dictionaries, drag-and-drop spell checking, displays word and sentence counts plus Fog and Flesch-Kincaid readability scores, replacement undo options, double-word detection, and more. [WINPRO] WinProof 1.0 (Intellect Systems ASP; $45) is an outstanding grammar checker for Windows 3.1. It detects common grammar errors like dropped words, extra words, passive voice, subject/verb agreement, misused articles, double negatives, and much more. It is compatible with files created in WordPerfect, Word, WinWord, WordStar, PC-Write, etc. It features an interactive mode which lets you view each error as it is encountered with an option to correct the error immediately or write a comment to a report file. There is also a report only mode which quickly scans a document and writes the suggestions to a text file. This is a powerful package that can painlessly improve your writing. [WINSPELL] WinSpell (R&TH Inc.; $22) is a real-time spelling supervisor for Windows applications. It checks each word as you type and alerts you to misspelled words by either beeping or flashing the title bar of the window you are in. It can also check the spelling of documents in WRI or ASCII format, as well as text copied to the clipboard. In this mode, it will list all words in the text which it considers to be incorrectly spelled. New words are easily added to the dictionary. The program runs in the background, yet readily gives up its system resources if another application needs them. Other features include WIN31 .WAV sound file support for alerts, phonetic lookups, international support, and more. 900K of hard disk space is required. This is a very well done package. -----Text Retrieval [DTSW1, DTSW2] dtSearch for Windows 2.03 (Advanced Support Group, ASP; $99) is a powerful text retrieval program. Ami Pro, WordPerfect WordStar, MS Word, MS Works, Multimate, RTF, and ASCII files are supported. It can perform indexed and unindexed searches, as well as wildcard, boolean, phrase, proximity, and segment searches. Other features include network support, international language support, application launching, and more. Requires Windows 3.1+.
