Give me money.

If you would like to give me money - then please do! (There's bound to be at least ONE lottery winner playing this, who would like to make a poor student (aren't we all?) happy :) Although this game is free.. I have spent quite a large amount of time developing this (although that's not a boring task at all), so any contributions welcome! e-mail for details...

Gravity Wars mailing list

You can join the GW mailing list at gwne.listbot.com. Why should you join? Well, by joining you are kept up to date with GWNE releases - which means when you play multiplayer (if both players are on the mailing list) you won't get any version errors, and also you will benefit from the best gameplay.

About

Gravity Wars Network Edition is a game for Windows where upon there are two ships and you both try to hit your opponent with missiles, whose paths are influenced by planets gravity.

Gravity Wars was originally a shareware game for the Amiga, since then it has appeared on the Arc and for the PC as a dos game. Now I have made a Win32 version of this game with network support, so you can play your friends over a network, the internet, or via serial and modem play.

Whats New

Whats new in 0.35?

Number of planets: 58
Number of sounds: 41

Changed the way the game 'pauses' itself when a missile hits a planet or leaves the galaxy. Now there shouldn't be any errors when you try to leave the game when the games in the 'paused' state.

Changed the way planets are chosen. Now, GWNE tries 10 times to place a planet in a 'valid' position instead of just 1. This means that the more larger planets should come up more often.

The '/ping' command has been removed. Instead, now all pings are done automatically. Every 30 seconds, each machine will ping the other, and if there is no 'pong' after two pings (60 Seconds) then the game is terminated.

Whats new in 0.34?

Number of planets: 56
Number of sounds: 41

Multiplayer first map being a tiny bit different fix.

Whats new in 0.32?

Number of planets: 47
Number of sounds: 41

You can now select the size of galaxy you want to play in (Small is the size of 0.29's map, medium a bitty bigger, large a bit bigger than medium) from both the single player and multiplayer menus - which is nice :)

Whats new in 0.29?

Number of planets: 35
Number of sounds: 41
NB: New planet images (Nice 'textured' ones), old ones discarded.

Whats new in 0.28?

Number of planets: 52
Number of sounds: 36
Bug fixes.

Whats new in 0.26?

Gravity Wars

There have been many Gravity Wars games in the past, and now it appears for Windows with mulitplayer support.

In Gravity Wars, your task is to destroy your opponent by firing missiles in a turn based system. Once a missile is fired, its course is influenced by planets and blackholes that are on the map. In order to destroy your opponent, you will have to learn how to use planets and even black holes to your advantage. Black holes are rare in maps, and they are very hard to spot (unless they appear on the nebula) however, if there is one on the map, you will notice you missile being drawn off course quite dramatically.

How to play

Your aim is to destroy your opponent, you do this by firing missiles. Missiles have two components, an angle and a velocity.

Starting a new game

For single player:
Select new game from the single player menu.

For multi player:
See next section.

Angle: (Range = 0 to 360)

The angle which you enter will determine the starting point of the missile and its initial trajectory. For both players, the following angle system applies,

Numbers represent degrees

Velocity: (Range = 0 to 20)

The velocity is the power of which your missile is fired with. The greater the power, the less the missile will be affected by planets gravity.

Note: In traditional Gravity Wars games, the velocity's has always been between 0-10.  However - due to the size of the maps in GWNE, the range has been extended.

Multiplayer Games

To start a Multiplayer game, simply select Multiplayer Game from the Multiplayer menu. From here you can choose whether you want to be a host or join someone else's game.

If you chose to be a host, then a game cannot be started until a second player has arrived.

If you are a host, you can select 'New Map' from the Multiplayer menu to generate a new map.

Notes
The bottom most right panel with two numbers represent the game score.  Left is the blue player (player 1) and right is the red player (player 2).

Sounds
A variety of sounds are available to play when in a Multiplayer game.  Type in the following commands into the console for the responding sound,

/billted
/bonsai
/clint
/darth
/doh
/eva-01
/hahaha

/kaboom
/owww
