LAGUNA HILLS, CA, Sept. 14, 1992--As part of the company's milestone
introduction of the Elite/400 family of PC-to-AS/400 connectivity
products, Network Software Associates, Inc. (NSA) today announced two
powerful software development toolkits which greatly simplify the creation
of PC-based Windows front-end Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) for AS/400
applications.

The HLLAPI Toolkit for Windows is used to create front-end Windows software
using IBM's High-Level Language Application Programming Interface
(HLLAPI). "The HLLAPI Toolkit for Windows conforms to the new Microsoft
Win HLLAPI standard," said Martin Smith, NSA's product line manager. "It
automatically translates AS/400 host displays into objects recognized by
Microsoft's Visual BASIC."

The second toolkit, called the APPC Toolkit for Windows, creates Windows
front-ends using IBM's LU6.2 Advanced Program-to-Program Communications
(APPC) API. "With either of these timesaving development kits, it becomes
a straightforward task to provide PC users with an intuitive Windows-based
interface to AS/400 applications," said Mr. Smith. "In fact, the interface
can be set up such that the PC user does not even need know that he is
connected to an AS/400 host."

Both of the new toolkits include a built-in "screen converter" which
translates the AS/400 display screens into Visual BASIC "forms", the basic
structure used within the Visual BASIC object-oriented programming
language. "With these powerful toolkits, an AS/400 main menu can actually
be converted to Windows in a matter of seconds," added Mr. Smith. "That
can sometimes represent an entire day's programming effort."

In addition to PC-to-AS/400 applications using the Elite/400 family of
emulators, both of the toolkits can also be used to create GUI front-ends
for PC-to-mainframe applications via NSA's DynaComm/Elite family of 3270
and APPC software for Windows PCs.

The HLLAPI Toolkit for Windows and the APPC Toolkit for Windows are each
priced at only $495, which is considerably less than comparable
development kits on the market. Both toolkits will be available for
customer delivery on October 30, 1992.
