SEATTLE, September 15, 1992--Raosoft, SURVEYFirst, Version 2.0, is a
DOS-based innovative approach to database design that provides new
statistical capacity and database management to non-technical as well as
expert users. SURVEYFirst provides users with intuitive database form
design and management combined with the capacity to use powerful
statistics in an easy, one-stroke design.

SURVEYFirst uses the word SURVEY in its title as a metaphor to express the
handling and analysis of information. Form design is based on a familiar
question and response format as though in a survey. Forms-based data entry
is on to a screen replica of the questionnaire. The new user is guided
through database management with pull-down windows, dialog boxes, and
onscreen instruction to direct the user. Analysis is carried out by
selecting one-stroke commands phrased in common terminology. The user
chooses the parameters in unique interactive windows for advanced
statistics like hypothesis testing. Reports and mailmerge are
straightforward.

Shipping begins October 1, 1992. It will run on single or multiple floppy
or hard disk drives and 512K memory is recommended, DOS 2.0 or higher. It
is networkable and can run under the Windows environment. It directly
accesses dBASE-type files, and imports and exports WKl-type and ASCII
files. SURVEYFirst is carefully handcrafted and the executable program
takes only 325K, so it will run quickly on even the older 8088's. The
price remains $195.

SURVEYFirst is the powerful beginning program of the Raosoft, Inc. products
line. The program redesign for Version 2.0 substantially increases feature
support and extends record capacity to 1000 with an unlimited capacity for
number of variables.

SURVEYFirst, Version 2.0 will offer all the features of the Raosoft, SURVEY
Ver. 2.0 program ($495), except that it will offer 1000 record support
(Raosoft, SURVEY is unlimited in number of records it will accept, except
for hardware capacity), and will not provide the outside programs of the
Hot-key interrupt program (EZSurvey) and the screenshow rearrangement
program (Slideshow). Both EZSurvey and Slideshow are included on the
Raosoft SURVEY disks. An upgrade is available from SURVEYFirst to SURVEY
for the amount of the price differential.

Feature improvements in Raosoft SURVEYFirst, Version 2.0 include:

-- 1000 record capacity instead of 150 (previously SURVEYFirst
was designed for teaching or limited business use)
-- Extension of question coding types to include more flexible
   branching
-- Additional character codes for field-names that allow:
protection of field values from editing, forced data entry
to a field, randomization of the question order of all the
consecutive flagged questions, validation of one field value
   with another
-- Hot-key for instant save and new entry positioning
-- Control commands to change the appearance of the screen form
-- Automatic dial-out
-- "Scripting", to insert a response from another question inside
   another question
-- Hot-key search for instant queries
-- Median and Quartiles option in Analysis
-- Comment-type responses can be cross-tabulated with multiple
   response questions

A unique Raosoft, Inc. developed screen display shows hypothesis testing
and sample size determination in an intuitive manner for the
non-specialist. The user sets the various parameter values interactively
and the screen display immediately shows the results written in common
English as well as in technical words. In easy fashion, a user may now
test whether the difference in responses is significant in statistical
terms.

SURVEYFirst supports all types of surveys and questionnaires but goes far
beyond survey collection to encompass all those who want to collect and
use information in their own database. For example SURVEYFirst will
support such uses as program evaluations, membership list databases, or
customer database analysis. Traditional survey uses include those for new
product acceptance, customer satisfaction, employee reviews and political
polling.

Those who have never used a database before as well as experts can now
write their forms easily. The form is written in a straightforward text
style in ASCII, so forms can be written either with the program's editor
or in an outside word processor.

SURVEYFirst does not insulate the user from the database, but rather
explains the data manipulation to them. Context sensitive help guides
users through their database. Users can change question types and
experiment with database management without risking the loss of their own
data. For example, multiple-choice questions can become comment type
questions or number fields, and be analyzed differently. The wide choice
of query commands allows the easy selection of cases through boolean logic
using pop-up menus, and allows users to search databases for specific
records directly from the form view.

The user may use the Query and statistical commands to quickly and easily
look at their data. With a single keystroke the user can obtain
measurements such as averages, medians, percents, and more advanced
statistics in a single template. Instant bar and pie charts help explain
the data.
