PROXIMA ADDRESSES SAFETY ISSUE OF SURGE PROTECTION CIRCUITRY

San Diego, CA -- August tc10, 1992 -- In an aggressive effort to address
the important issue of surge suppression safety, Proxima Corporation is
taking the lead in product safety by fusing the surge protection circuitry
in all of its computer-grade surge protection products. The fusing of
circuitry is a direct effort to eliminate potential electrical hazards
that have been linked to unfused Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs) commonly
used in surge protection products. While Proxima's products have not
experienced any difficulties linked to the use of MOVs, Proxima is taking
a pro-active measure against any potential safety problems.

"Guarding against power surges, spikes and electrical noise is just one
part of the protection equation. As manufacturers we must design in
safety. Most surge protection products on the market today are not
equipped with fused circuitry. To protect businesses from the hazardous
effects of MOVs failing open, fuses on all three power lines are
necessary. In known cases, the inability to completely defend against MOV
failure has led to computer system damage and fire. Our fused circuitry
prevents this potentially hazardous situation," says John R. Thomas, vice
president, Power Products.

Proxima's products are fused on all three lines - hot, neutral and ground -
so that when a MOV fails "open" the damaged surge suppression circuitry is
removed from the electrical circuit. Proxima's design allows power to
continue to flow safely to the computer system. As this situation occurs,
Proxima's surge protector warns the user via audible and visual alarms
that it is no longer effective in protecting against further damaging
surges and that it is time to replace the unit.

With the experience of over two million surge protectors in the market,
Proxima believes that the combination of protection, safety and audible
and visual alerts are a minimum standard in the definition of
computer-grade surge protection.

Proxima's family of high quality computer-grade surge protectors are listed
by Underwriter's Laboratory and exceed stringent industry standards of
ANSI/IEEE C62.41-1980 Category A and B performance standards.

Proxima is a full line supplier of application-driven computer-grade surge
suppression products for entry level PCs, networks and critical
workstations for engineering, CAD/CAM and financial use.
