Scientific +organizations do not have to be the only way to truth. I'm surprised (and a bunch of other trivial blather and bleating!) + ax to grind against the Church. I suggest he keep that ax out of SPACE. I +apologize for wasting the bandwidth, but I have never been so outraged +by a comment on the net before. I may not be a "good" Catholic but I +can detect gross exaggerations, even in light of the Church's past +transgressions. Mr. Brierley- I suggest that your response to this topic is even less intellegent, you admit affiliation with the Holy Roman Church, yet are unable approach this subject without anti-scientific bias. Science has not contaminated itself, even the examples you cite ("nuclear weapons, etc") are not to the detriment of man's knowledge. They are examples, rather, of political forces set loose with dangerous toys. That the Catholic Church has, in times past, been willing to surpress any of the discoveries that Scientific Method has wrought, is witness enough of it's anti-scientific bias -- Your reaction is way out of line, do a simple reality check: The Pope is against birth control; the population explosion threatens our very existance...seem rational to you? What does all this have to do with S P A C E ?? The Church has on many ocassions been vocal about it's opposition to space exploration, it's cry is one of concern for the poor, and how much better the money could be spent on feeding the hungry, meanwhile the Church owns a good deal of the Earth's worldly treasures. Pardon me for being a realist, but it seems that the major concern of the Church has been and will always be, the supression of knowledge where such knowledge frees Mankind from the Church's-yoke. History and the events of recent times prove this beyond a shadow of a doubt. As Mankind explores the vastness of space, it becomes quite evident why the Church deplores such ventures: It is because the knowledge gained is freedom against the miserable dogma that is the epitome of such clap-trap as the Church provides. Knowledge dispells dogma, and that signals the end of the Church's evil strangle-hold on men's minds and lives! Make your stand, but do it openly and without hedges. You either favor Scientific Method or Catholicism as your means of illuminating the intellectual darkness, you cannot have them both in the absolute sense. In short, grow up.
