[4th file of 5, ARROWS] SQUEAMISH ABOUT BLOOD? Most people are squeamish about blood. They don't want to see it, think about it, or talk about it. In this century, newer editions of hymnbooks of the large denominations have progressively eliminated references to the "blood of Christ". The apostle Paul wrote, "In Him (Jesus Christ) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace..." (Ephesians 1:7 NKJ) If instead of dying on the cross, Jesus Christ had donated a pint every two months during His adult life, He would have given much more blood, but it wouldn't have done us any good. The phrase "through His blood" in the New Testament contains the concept of sacrificial death for sin. John the Baptizer called Jesus "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." Every person who heard those words understood the story of the Passover Lamb, whose blood was put on the lintel and doorposts of the dwellings of the Israelites in Egypt. They remembered how the destroying angel had killed every firstborn child in Egypt who was not in a home protected by the blood of the lamb. The Lord Jesus not only died on the cross as a blood-sacrifice for sin, but rose again from the dead and lives today to be your King and Friend, and give you the Holy Spirit to lead and teach and empower you, IF YOU WILL ONLY PUT YOUR TRUST IN HIM, and receive the life which He purchased for you with His own blood. We encourage you to read the New Testament seriously for yourself, especially John or Luke. But entrust yourself to Jesus right now. Don't wait. [Clyde Price, Arrows27] "SIN LICENSE" "Forgiveness full and free! Does that mean I can accept Christ and do anything I want to do?" OF COURSE NOT! The apostle Paul answers this question in the strongest language in chapters 3 and 6 of his letter to the Romans. The gospel is the message of forgiveness from the penalty of sin and also freedom from its power over our lives. Paul exhorted, "For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!" (Romans 6:14-15 NKJ) Christians should memorize Romans 6 as thoroughly as their telephone numbers, and in faith "reckon" it, or visualize it as true, in their own lives. God hates sin. If we could realize how much, it would affect our lives: God hates sin so much that He killed His own beloved only-begotten Son as the atoning sacrifice for sin for all time. The blood of Christ atones for the guilt of sin. The cross of Christ, as explained in Romans 6, sets the believer free from the dominion of sin, and enables the believer to share in His Resurrection life and victory. The incredibly expensive grace of God is offered freely to set the believer free from sin's penalty and its power. To suggest that God is offering a free license to sin is simply stupid. God calls you to repentance from the sin that He hates, and which cost Him His Son. Read the letters of Paul to the Galatians and the Romans for yourself, and see if we are reporting accurately what the Scriptures say. Put your trust in Jesus, and let Him set you free. Do it NOW. [Clyde Price, Arrows28] CHILDREN OF GOD Some churches which claim to be Christian talk about the "Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of all Mankind", and speak of this as a central truth of Christianity. If you are one who believes in this notion, here is a shock for you: That idea is not taught in the Bible. The apostle Paul wrote, "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus." (Galatians 3:26 NKJ) It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that a person becomes a "son" of God. We read in the Gospel of John that the Word, the Creator, "became flesh and dwelt among us" (1:14) as Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah of Israel, and that "as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name: who were born...of God." (1:12-13) This God-birth is spoken of in John 3. There is ONE VERSE, quoting Paul in Acts 17:28, speaking of people in general as "offspring" (Greek: GENOS) of God, and it is followed by Paul's statement that God "now commands all people everywhere to repent." It would take only several hours to read through Luke, John and Acts for yourself, to see for yourself that we are telling you just what the Bible says. Ask God to show you the Truth as you read. If you want to be a REAL child of God, repent of your sins, put your trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, and you will be born into the Forever Family. Don't delay; do it NOW. [Clyde Price, Arrows29] [Arrows 29 is dedicated to the Rev. Andrew Young.] PRIMARY LOYALTY The Bible teaches that in heaven there will be redeemed people from every language and ethnic group, from every racial group, from all the families and nations of mankind, all around the throne of God worshipping Him. Whenever a person receives Jesus Christ by faith as Savior and Lord, that person's previous ethnic or racial or cultural status is superseded by the "new creation", their new identity as part of God's "holy nation." The apostle Peter wrote, "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light..." (I Peter 2:9 NKJ) Becoming a Christian will not change the texture of your hair or your skin color, but with Jesus Christ as your King, all other loyalties or identifying factors become much less important. Our common identity with Christians of other races or nations is an eternally stronger bond than we have with even our own parents or siblings, unless these physical relatives have also trusted in Christ. If you claim the name of "Christian", Jesus your Lord demands that you acknowledge your obedience to Him as the controlling factor in your life. He also demands that you acknowledge Christians of any race or nation as your brothers and sisters, to whom you owe an eternal loyalty. Read Matthew 11 and 25, and John 17. Some people who claim to be Christians actually hate people of other races, even Christians of other races. John wrote, "If someone says, `I love God,' and hates his brother, HE IS A LIAR; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen." (I John 4:20) Read the whole letter of I John, and note the "symptoms" of someone who has eternal life. If you realize that you are not yet a real Christian, put aside any hatred you bear, and repent from all your other sins, too, and join the Forever Family today: Put your trust in Jesus. [Clyde Price, Arrows30] [Re: Arrows30--author's note to all future editors: DO NOT edit out the paragraph containing I John 4:20. If you refuse to print this, you do NOT have permission to print this article, and you probably should not use this collection. If the shoe fits, don't wear it; REPENT. If you are afraid to take a stand, confess your sin of the fear of man, lay down your life for the gospel, and BE BOLD, BE STRONG, FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU. --Clyde.] "I AM RIGHTEOUS" "You dirty, no-good so-and-so!" You have probably been called that or worse by some angry person. Some folks accept the "labels" people put on them, and come to believe of themselves that they ARE "worthless" and "no-good". God has done something drastic on our behalf, and made provision for people to receive a "new identity". The apostle Paul wrote: "God made him (The Lord Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin (or a sin offering) for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (II Corinthians 5:21 NIV) When you trust Jesus as Savior and Lord, you receive a "new identity" as now being "in Christ". The death of Jesus Christ on the cross is then applied as payment for your sins, and since you are "in Him", His righteousness is considered by God to be YOUR righteousness, too. The promises of the New Covenant provide not only for a LEGAL righteousness, but also for the power of God working in us believers the desire and the power to DO righteousness--the RIGHT thing--the will of God. The righteousness of Jesus Christ becomes part of your very being when you put your trust in Him as Savior and Lord. Then you can humbly and truly say, "I am righteous through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ." If you cannot say this truly, then turn in repentance from your sin to the One who had no sin of His own, but made Himself a sin offering on the behalf of all who would put their trust in Him. Don't wait. Do it today. If this concept sounds like magic or nonsense, read the New Testament letters to the Galatians and the Romans. The book of Hebrews goes into more detail, but is harder to understand without a background in the Old Testament. The technical name for this teaching is the "substitutionary atonement." We would like to meet you and try to answer your questions. We get especially excited when we hear about someone who has just trusted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Put your trust in Jesus. [Clyde Price, Arrows31] WHO GETS THE CREDIT? Salvation does not depend on people. God is not holding his breath to see what you are going to do. God's program to redeem for Himself a people out of sinful humanity was His own idea and motivated by His own loving nature. Paul wrote, "It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption." (I Corinthians 1:30 NIV) If you have already put your trust in Christ Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you can claim no "credit" for becoming a Christian. It was by God's doing that your salvation came to you, His Word that worked in your heart, and His Spirit who enabled you to come to faith in Christ. It was God who worked redemption through the incarnation and crucifixion and resurrection of His Son, and none of the angels of heaven or the demons of hell understood until it was over (see I Cor. 2). It is by God's doing that the holiness and righteousness of Christ are assigned to the believer. Some Christians say boastfully, "Well, I'm the one who BELIEVED it. Yep, I had to put MY faith in Christ, or He couldn't have done it!" Some folks resist this message because they insist that God should recognize at least some of their own efforts, their own goodness, even their own response to the gospel, as part of the saving equation. He will never do this. "Salvation is of the Lord", and it is only and completely by God's grace, received through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That way, only God gets the credit. You could probably read through or listen to the letter to the Romans in 1 or 2 hours. This is the key book in the Bible on the teaching we're talking about. Even if it's hard on your pride, if you have not yet "received" Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, do it NOW. [Clyde Price, Arrows32] PERFECT FOR ALL TIME Some confused Christians have the tragic belief that they became Christians by faith, but they must perform certain works in order to maintain their standing before God. Any system that says that ANYTHING must be added to the grace of God is a false gospel. The salvation which Jesus Christ purchased at Calvary for believers was "PAID IN FULL" then and there. The Bible says, "For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified." (Hebrews 10:14 NAS) True believers are made holy--sanctified--by the sacrificial offering of Jesus Christ. His death and His Resurrection -victory over death have purchased a salvation which is good "for all time". The word here translated "perfect" includes the idea of being made complete and mature. There IS something for the believer to do, but obedience is BECAUSE we are saved, not IN ORDER to be saved or to STAY saved. A believer in Christ Jesus has no reason at all to feel insecure or incomplete or inadequate. The Christian's EXPERIENCE is a growth process by stages. First, we're "born again" (John 3:1-21), then we "grow" as Christians (II Peter 3:18), but the offering that purchased it was once-for-all, paid-in-full, and perfect for all time. We encourage you to read for yourself the letters of Peter, the Gospel and letters of John, and if you want heavier references to the Hebrew Scriptures, the Gospel of Matthew and the letter to the Hebrews. If you want a secure, fully paid-for eternity with Jesus, put your trust in Him as your Savior and Lord RIGHT NOW. [Clyde Price, Arrows33] BIG SINNERS AND LITTLE SINNERS Some people just naturally seem to be "better" or closer to God than others. When a person with lots of problems looks over at someone who really seems to "have it all together," the result can be jealousy, depression, and even despair. The Bible pops this illusion-bubble with the startling statement that ALL people have the same BASIC problem, and the SAME basic answer can apply to every person. The apostle Paul wrote, "There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." (Romans 3:22-24 NIV) The most wanton and hardened criminal and the prim and chaste housewife have in common that by their own records they "fall short" before God and need to find their provision in the "redemption that came by Christ Jesus." There are myriads of differences between individuals, but in this most important way, "there is no difference." In the edition we quoted from above, the New International Version, the letter to the Romans is only 16 pages long. Read it for yourself. Because of the redemption that Jesus Christ purchased with His substitutionary death on the cross, and the victory He accomplished when He rose from the dead, He offers you, before the Court date, a free, gracious, and undeserved pardon from all your sins; if only you will put your trust in Him as Savior and Lord. Some people actually do commit grosser sins than others, but every descendant of Adam and Eve is a sinner who needs a Savior. This includes even you. Put your trust in Jesus. Don't wait: do it NOW. [Clyde Price, Arrows34] DUAL CITIZENSHIP Should you be loyal to the country where you are a citizen? Do you know anyone with dual citizenship? To which country is that person more loyal? or more concerned about? Do you think it is ethical for an adult to hold citizenship in two different countries simultaneously? If you are a real "born again" Christian, YOU are in this same kind of tension. The apostle Paul writes, "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ..." (Philippians 3:20 NIV) Paul considered himself and the Philippian believers he addressed to have their primary "commonwealth" in the heavenly realms because of their faith-union with Jesus Christ. As members of a Roman "colonia", most of the Philippians were full citizens of Rome, as was Paul himself. Paul never renounced his Roman citizenship nor his heritage as an Israelite (see Phil. 3:1ff., & Acts 16:30-40), but the throne of King Jesus held his first allegiance even to death. In his letters to the Colossians and Ephesians--which we encourage you to read for yourself--Paul explains the believer's union with Christ, how the Christian is "in Reality" co-enthroned with Christ in the heavenly realms, even though physically still on earth. Living Christian believers would normally hold citizenship in some earthly country, but our primary allegiance and loyalty must be to the One who created all nations and will someday judge them all. Jesus Christ is the supreme authority over all earthly kings, and the Lord of any other authorities. He will return to this planet to take up His active reign as King and Judge. He commands you to turn from your sins and entrust yourself to Him. No other authority has the legal right to interfere with obedience to His royal command. You too can become a citizen of heaven. By faith, take Jesus Christ as your Savior and King. Don't delay for a moment your obedience to His royal command: do it NOW. A thousand years from now, you'll be glad you did. [Clyde Price, Arrows35] IF YOU ARE SEEKING FULFILLMENT... Do you feel empty? Have you tried to fill that "hollowness" with religious activity, wealth or power; or have you tried to dull yourself with chemicals or sex? The French physicist and philosopher Pascal said, "There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ." No power or possession or pleasure can satisfy the need we have had designed into us: the human person was created to be the dwelling place and intimate friend of Deity. Paul the apostle wrote to the Christian believers in the neighborhood of Colossae, "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given this fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority." (Colossians 2:9-10 NIV) Christ Jesus will fill that void in you, if you will put your faith in Him. Get a Bible in a good modern version--such as the New American Standard, New International Version, or New King James--and ask God to SHOW you whether or not this is the truth, and what it means. Start with the Gospel of John, then go back and read straight through the New Testament. But you don't have to wait. Talk to the Lord Jesus right now. Tell Him that you give yourself to Him and you are asking Him to fill you with Himself, cleansing, re-creating, full-filling. Then call us or come visit us. We'd like to meet you and try to answer your questions.
