             Dealer Level Installation Instructions

 1040/MEGA ST - 520/1040 STe systems (with internal floppy drive)
            using 2MB FDD 3.5 Kit  CA401229-001

               1) Gently bend pin #18 of the AJAX chip to a 45ø 
                  angle
               2) Replace WD1772 with AJAX chip leaving pin #18 
                  isolated
               3) Connect GREEN wire to pin #39 of DMA controller 
                  (for STe, see chart below)
               4) Connect BLUE wire to pin #39 of SHIFTER IC
                  (for STe, see chart below)
               5) Connect WHITE wire to pin #10 of internal FDD 
                  controller jack or pin #20 of YAMAHA IC
               6) Connect YELLOW wire to DENSITY DETECT 
                  pin/circuit of drive mechanism

********* Single Drive Systems - proceed to step #7 *************
********* Dual Drive Systems - go to step #9 ********************

Single High    7) Connect BROWN wire to +5VDC
Density Drive  8) Connect PINK wire to GND : go to step #13  
         -------------------------------------------------------
Dual High      9) Connect BROWN wire to pin #5 of external FDD 
Density Drives    jack or pin #19 of YAMAHA IC     
ù             10) Cut trace to pin #6 of external FDD jack
              11) Install 1K resistor between pin #6 of external 
                  FDD jack and GND
              12) Connect PINK wire to pin #6 of external FDD 
                  jack : proceed to step #13
         -------------------------------------------------------
              13) Connect RED wire to +5VDC
              14) Connect BLACK wire to GND
              15) Connect GRAY wire to pin #18 of AJAX IC

             (NOTE: Make all wiring as short as possible)

ù = Modified external Floppy Disk unit:      2MB mechanism
                         Cable wiring :  Drive select - pin #5
                                       Density detect - pin #6
                                           All others - normal
