Cost, etc. 145 message(s) total. ************ ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 1 Mon Apr 22, 1991 MARTYKLEIN at 23:27 EDT I have tested much ST software on the TT as I set it up. It appears that most common applications, utilities, and accessories work well, and fast, in ST hi- rez. Pagestream 1.83 even installs and runs in TT ram and TT med-rez. Games, on the other hand, mostly don't work, with some recent exceptions. It seems like most of my recent games that are able to run off HD work ok. Most copy- protected game disks don't seem to work. In order to run autoboot games, I have tried several things. First I disabled the ICD booter.sys on C. then I (1) tried autobooting with the game in A when turning on the power, (2) tried booting with a blank disk, putting in the game disk, switching off the cache and warm (ctrl-alt-del) rebooted, and (3) booted with a blank disk, disabled the cache and tried running the game from the desktop. I had some success, with some games, using each of the methods. Any other suggestions? Gee, I never thought that the ST might become my GAME machine! I can't wait to see some games written for the TT video/sound capabilities! Marty ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 2 Tue Apr 23, 1991 NEVIN-S at 10:01 EDT Just for the record, Tracker/ST works great on the TT. You can run it in ST med res, ST hi res, TT med res (my fave) and TT Hi Res. The freeware accessory BUTTNFIX is included with Tracker/ST and allows you to set margin's in Tracker/ST's text editor without any difficulties. For those of you unfamiliar, Tracker/ST is a super charged Mailing List/Mail Merge program. For more info see Category 6, Topic 23 or call Step Ahead Software at 212-627- 5830. PageStream 2.0 (coming soon to a theater near you) is also 100% TT compatible. --Nevin ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 3 Tue Apr 23, 1991 J.COLE18 [John Cole] at 20:25 EDT You NEED buttnfix with the TT???? Wow, as nice as Buttnfix is, How did this get thru to the TT? Did the Phantom make it too? I know these things are probobly lost somewhere in the TOS code, but I sure wish the three TOS-amigos could squash these! (I personaly think that the phantom is a joke written in, that **** thing is TOO spooky to be a simple bug. Remember the Love message in the original? something like that, but thats my opinion.) Has anyone with the TT seen the phantom? Oh, well. I still want a TT John ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 4 Wed Apr 24, 1991 R.GRANT11 [Ron @ GXRSYS] at 02:51 EDT Nope. No phantoms have been seen lurking about. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 5 Sat May 04, 1991 R.NOAK (Forwarded) Lloyd, I haven't noticed the TT to all that "pickey" about what it will run and won't. In general, it is the software that is to "fault". Here's a short list. PageStream 1.83 runs in TT med res with all flags on Easy Draw 3.0 runs in TT med res " " " " Wordflair II " " " " " " " " " Touch Up runs in ST high with all flags on Calamus and Outline run in ST high with all flags on Wordwriter seems to crash when I try to spellcheck though others have had no problem (I use WF II now anyway) As far as DA's and Auto programs, I find that I don't need too many with the TT, so I haven't moved the ones that I use on my ST over, but EZ Tools works OK as a DA, and Little Green Selector works fine in the Auto Folder. It is my opinion that the TT is far less incompatible than many have been saying. It sure is fast also. We are talking printing times (with PageStream) measured in _seconds_ not minutes. I imagine that the boards from Fast Technology and Gadgets will be about the same. I do hope though that both boards have the same VME bus that the TT has, otherwise there will be problems for everyone. Randy ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 6 Sat May 04, 1991 R.NOAK at 19:44 EDT That got messed up. Suffice it say that most of the software I've tried works. One important point. You only need to set the flags once, not every time you run the software, and changing resolutions is much quicker than on an ST. When you change rez from "Set Preferences", the screen blanks for a second or two and then you have your desktop in the new rez. You don't have to mess around with multiple DESKTOP.INF files or a long reboot. It's very nice. Randy ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 8 Sun May 05, 1991 TIMPURVES at 09:42 EDT LLoyd, I have uses 'MUTIL'ate on the TT, as well as Toolkit. ;-) ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 9 Sun May 05, 1991 SGUBER at 10:00 EDT Tim: I have a very strange problem with Super Directory on the TT. It cannot find any of the directories partitions on my hard disk, or on see that there is a floppy drive connected. When I go to the select drive section, all of the boxes are blanked out. What I do is y use the ST to add disks and the TT to do all of my searches or other work. Any plans on updating SD or tryuing to find the problem. SD is one of my favorite progams, and is a necessity when you have lost a file that you wrote only four years ago. Sol Guber ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 10 Sun May 05, 1991 DOUG.W at 11:15 EDT Lloyd, Gee, Calamus doesn't work right on a Mac II! The Mac II must be "picky." Contrary to popular belief, the TT was not designed to be compatible with all ST software; it was designed to be compatible with software written according to Atari's guidelines. If the TT were 100% compatible with ALL ST software, it'd be an ST and not a TT. --Doug ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 11 Sun May 05, 1991 R.NOAK at 12:03 EDT Lloyd, I don't know for sure (and I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong ;-)), but if it won't work on a TT, I don't think it will work on the 030 boards either. BTW, _I_ haven't gotten Wordwriter to work. Others have, so I just may have the flags set wrong. As far as the rest of your list goes, I don't know because I don't own any of those programs, but as I said, changing res on a TT is much easier and quicker than on an ST. And you don't need to worry about multiple desktop info files either. Also, I just moved 2 DA's over to the TT that work fine. Notepad and TN-PCalc. As I find time, I'll move other DA's and Auto programs and report the results here. Does my Spectre work? I don't know. I'll have to try that someday, but, for now, I've got my ST set up as the Mac/ST, and my TT as all Atari. I haven't had to "dump" anywhere near 50% of my software. Most (90%) that I use in my business works fine. The only upgrade I've needed was PGS 1.83 and that was free. I think that you would be happy with a TT Lloyd. I know that I am, it really makes working with PageStream a joy. Randy ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 12 Sun May 05, 1991 J.SPANDE [John Spande] at 12:22 EDT Lloyd, Your comments reminded me of a story I heard a long time ago about an elderly widow in Chicago, who upon hearing that Henry Ford had decided to stop producing the Model T in favor of the new Model A, went out and purchased 4 new Model Ts and put them in storage, figuring that would be sufficient to last her for the rest of her life. Some software incompatibilities are inevitable with a new system such as the TT. The only alternative is to avoid progress entirely. The problem is not the TT, but that programs such as WordWriter are obselete. The last time I used WW (which was a long time ago) the spelling checker was almost worthless because it did only an alphabetical, not a phonetic, search of alternatives and it took forever to initially load. Try the spell checker in WordUp if you want to see how helpfull a truely good one can be. My point is, you can either plan on periodically updating to new hardware and software and increase your producivity and capabilities, or you can join that widow in Chicago (Sorry, I don't know her name). ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 14 Sun May 05, 1991 R.GRANT11 [Ron @ GXRSYS] at 17:48 EDT Well, another two topics bite the dust. I'm going to IGN PER TOP 8 and TOP 10. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 15 Sun May 05, 1991 C.KEITH2 [Clinton] at 20:27 EDT Gosh Ron, wonder what could make you ignore both topics...must be something common between them? ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 16 Sun May 05, 1991 TOWNS [John@Atari] at 21:19 EDT Thanks, Doug. Geesh. Of course, it isn't going to run all ST software, but it does run a VERY large portion of it. As for the resolution changes, is it Atari's fault that some software out there won't run in anything other than the standard ST resolutions? Is is such a hardship to switch to ST high resolution when you want to run Interlink or something else that only works in ST high? Do you complain about having to switch to ST Low resolution when you run games or ST Medium when you run Word Writer ST? But, why am I doing this? Lloyd is someone who just argues with people for the sake of arguing. He would say the TT is bad if only one program out of his large software library would fail. And that would be the TT's fault of course. -- John ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 17 Sun May 05, 1991 J.SPANDE [John Spande] at 22:54 EDT Lloyd, Your characterisation of WordUp as 'buggy, almost non-usable' needs to be challenged. I have found it to be emminently useable and can't remember the last time it crashed on me. My understanding is that if you have 4 megs and a hard drive, you probably will find it solid, those who have found it otherwise ussually have less memory or are trying to run it off floppies. I am anxiously awaiting proof of the rumors that Atari will be releasing a 'TT/MSTE' version of it. You also failed to mention First Word Plus, which many people prefer, not to mention ST Writer, which a number of speed freaks swear by. And I've heard that Word Flair II is sensational. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 18 Mon May 06, 1991 R.NOAK at 00:50 EDT Lloyd, All I'm gonna say is that I haven't seen a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth on GEnie by those that actually own and use a TT. If there were the sort of problems that you are _speculating_ about, I'm sure that there would be posts a-plenty complaining. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you have the same concerns before you upgraded to TOS 1.4? Everything worked out OK, right? Alt-1 = ST Low Alt-2 = ST Medium Alt-3 = ST High Alt-4 = TT Low --- on TT030 only Alt-5 = TT Medium - on TT030 only When in doubt about a program, run it in ST High or Medium Resolution, out of ST RAM. Mike ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 26 Thu May 09, 1991 S.WHITNEY [SteveWhitney] at 03:06 EDT Mike, does that "change rez" keystroke trash your RAM disk? I mean, is it a warm start? By the way, I suggested to Derek Mui that you add a set of resolution radio buttons to the install application dialog so that an app will run in a particular resolution if it requires it. What do you think? --Steve ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 27 Thu May 09, 1991 T.GILL7 [GILLT] at 23:42 EDT I would like to post special thanks and recognition to two companies that have done an excellent job of customer service recently... The industry (MS-DOS) is moving to 2.88 Mb 3.5 in floppies early next year. I hope that Atari will jump over the 1.44 Mb drives and introduce a 2.88 for the ST/TT before or near the same time.... For Fun: I just discovered that Battle Chess works flawlessly on the TT! I am really pleased because I never played it much because of the amount of time it takes to calculate moves on the ST. However, on the TT it comes back with a move very fast... (At least at the novice level where I am and probably will always be!) Tyson. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 30 Sat May 11, 1991 S.NOAH [Stu] at 22:46 EDT One thing in relation to high density drives ( 1.4 & 2.8 ), if the design of the TT doesn't already preclude it could, could the operating system be patched to read the sensor that tests the diskette type. One of the major problems that I find users encounter at work is when they format a diskette to the wrong size. On a machine that doesn't set the disk type automaticaly, which PS/2s don't do, this a very easy mistake to make. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 31 Sun May 12, 1991 TIMPURVES at 10:49 EDT Sol, I no longer work for MichTron, so I am not sure on the future handling of updates. If I remeber correctly this was a bug that has since been fixed. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 32 Sun May 12, 1991 MIKE-FULTON [Mike @ Atari] at 17:19 EDT Steve Whitney, There are a whole bunch of things that need to be initialized in the system when you do a resolution change. Adding a rez choice to install application wouldn't be an option with the current version of GEM. A lot of changes would be required to make something like this possible. Changing resolutions is not the same as a warmboot. It doesn't affect your TSR programs, only your d/a's. Unless your ramdisk is a desk accessory, it should not affect it. It doesn't affect the one I use, at any rate. I wish Atari would consider making the changes needed to make rez-change an on-the-fly an option. Allowing each program to run in whatever rez it needs to do the job (or whatever rez the user sets if it can handle more than one) would be a wonderful change. It would remove a major pain in the behind for the users. It would also mean I wouldn't get the "but I don't have to reboot my PC to run ... what a pain/joke..." when I'm helping a new user set up his/her system running various programs that need more than one rez.... ... I tried disabling everything else except Neodesk. Thanks, John Spande ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 43 Fri May 24, 1991 J.EIDSVOOG1 [CodeHead] at 02:52 EDT John Spande, You need to add a screen device for the resolution in which you're booting up. I assume you're booting in TT Medium. Earlier TOS versions always opened a desktop workstation for device 0. Now the desktop opens a workstation based on the resolution. TT Medium res is Getrez 4 which is GDOS 6. Rather than be confused, it's best to just add device entries for all possible screen devices. Besides your current entries, add the following: 05p screen.sys 06p screen.sys ; TT-medium 07p screen.sys 08p screen.sys ; TT-high 09p screen.sys ; TT-low 10p screen.sys Fonts filenames should be listed between these entries if you intend to use GDOS programs in these resolutions. Remember that if you use G+Plus, which allows you to load different ASSIGN files for different programs, you should make sure to add the new device entries to ALL of your ASSIGN files. John ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 44 Fri May 24, 1991 TOWNS [John@Atari] at 12:50 EDT You need to add some new devices to the ASSIGN.SYS file. The ASSIGN.SYS file must have entries for all of the TT resolutions. You can just copy the one for device four to the rest: 04p screen.sys {list of fonts here} 05p screen.sys {list of fonts} . . . 09p screen.sys {list of fonts} Actually, I think you only need numbers up to 7, but it can't hurt. If so can anyone recommend any pd formatters that are considered reliable with an 82 track,10 sector format on the TT? I used a couple programs on the ST with few problems but now on the TT I've had more "data may be damaged"-type messages & corrupted files than I'd ever seen on the ST & I was even using 82 track,11 sector on the ST which is even more subject to problems. I bagged the 11 sector formats almost immediately when I got the TT, in fact a couple prgs that worked fine on the ST with the same external drive wouldn't even DO the format on the same external drive. I became concerned when I was doing some backup & restore work & came across a few read errors when doing the restore. BTW I'm using Diamond Back II ver 2.11 . there was no indication of a problem when writing to the floppies & it happened on both old & brand new floppies. I would've used DBII's own formatting but I couldn't get it to work at all, I think it doesn't work on the TT. So if anyone can suggest a rock solid TT-compatible formatter I'd aappreciate it. I'm also planning on upgrading the DBII just in case it is the culprit. As a matter of fact, I think most of the disk errors HAVE happened during DBII sessions(not all, though). Another question - can anyone suggest a PD or shareware reset-proof ram-disk that uses TT fastram? I've been trying out one from something called L- utilities or something like that. The prg runs fine but it won't load into fastram or use fastram for the ramdisk itself. Thanks Frank Goron ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 73 Fri Nov 15, 1991 J.EIDSVOOG1 [CodeHead] at 04:14 EST Frank, Your TT floppy problems may be related to inadequate shielding from your monitor. We had a lot of floppy errors on our TT until we installed a Reynolds Protector. We still get a few floppy errors but nowhere near as many as with a naked drive. (Our Reynolds Protector is a piece of aluminum foil folded eight sheets thick, nested between the top of the TT and the monitor stand ). Our CodeHead RAM Disk on the CodeHead Utilities disk is a reset-proof RAM disk that installs in TT fastram (among tons of other features), but it's neither PD nor shareware so I can't recommend it to you. John P.S. I apologize to those of you who don't approve of us mentioning our products in public (Steve). ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 74 Fri Nov 15, 1991 J.MEEHAN3 [>> Joe M << ] at 06:37 EST Frank, There are differences between various formatting utilities and what they do, but it sounds like your problem has to do with the dirve it'self, not the software. When you use extended formatting you must remember the drives supplied by Atari and most other drives are not certified for the extra tracks. Some may work and some may not. It looks like your TT has one that will not. Oh I see CJ had a good suggestion also, I had simular problem to his with an external HD. As for RAM disks I suggest spending the money and getting the latest version of CodeHead Utilities. There RAM disk runs very happy in Fast RAM. I guess -I- can recomend the CodeHead products. >> Joe Meehan << ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 75 Fri Nov 15, 1991 S.WINICK at 08:26 EST John (Eidsvoog), What's wrong with mentioning your products in public? If you have floppy problems of any type, make sure there's a nice thick wire going from the floppy case to ground. If not, then add one. Unfortunately, not everyone shares your views. There are those who are offended, put-off, or maybe just jealous every time we mention our products in areas other than our own Category. This kind of resentment is even more prevalent on another service that we offer support, but I've also noticed it here on GEnie. It's usually through subtle, sarcastic remarks but I'd rather not create any ill feelings so I try to keep the sales pitch to a minimum and aim people over to our own Category. BTW, I was reminded by the fact that someone called today, that the CodeHead RAM disk does have a problem on some TTs. I believe it is with the 3.05 ROMs but I haven't looked into it enough to be sure. Before I start recommending it further I'd better make sure it works correctly. Evidently it's working OK on Joe's machine, and it worked fine on the 3.01 ROMs we had when I wrote it. If I fix it, I'll be releasing a patch here and I also intend to release a demo version soon. All work fine. I tend to use UIS the most, and format out to 828K all the time. And that includes using the (ahem) high quality Atari disks that we have here in Sunnyvale. Since both UIS and MaxiFile III offer a tremendous value to you, I'd really encourage you to re-think your PD stance on this one! These programs are top flight, and a very good investment. On the other hand, if finances don't permit such a purchase right now, DCOPY is the way to go. Just remember to send in your shareware payment. And I think the author is here on GEnie. Thing is that I'm beginning to think it might have something to do with DB II because I think most or even all of my disk errors were happening while restoring my backups. I'm not sure about that since those backup restores are about all I've been doing recently (4 syquest carts, y'know) I've sent for the update to the latest version & DB II ver 2.30 has an new formatter so maybe that'll do the trick. If anyone can find a way to make Lemmings work on a TT, I would be most grateful! ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 127 Sun Jan 19, 1992 E.WELLS at 10:44 EST Question: I my TT just came in it's great, despite the lack of mounting hardwre for my quantum 105. My lexicor software runs great (the main reason I bought it, also DTP), but I'm trying to run some great games that don't like the TT resolutions. FOr example, Chaos Strikes Back will run, but, it comes up in TT med and I get two very small versions of the screen in the top quarter of the screen area. I've serveral other games that do the same thing, they are entirely playable, they're just very, very small. Others like Captive don't seem to work at all. Does anyone know any way to get an autobooting disk to come up in a specic resolution without a INF file? Anyone able to get Captive to work ehw ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 128 Sun Jan 19, 1992 TOWNS [John@Atari] at 18:19 EST What TOS version do you have, E.WELLS? ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 129 Tue Jan 21, 1992 S.KALEITA [SAK] at 22:20 EST Reguarding slowing down the The TT; just the other night I booted up my TT with a game called Better Dead Than Alien; a shoot em up; which I havent played for almost a year, (I did it for my 3 year old)and I scored the the programs highest score saved, the first time around. Needless to say my daughter was angree at me. SPEED KILLS! SAK :-) ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 130 Sat Jan 25, 1992 E.WELLS at 15:43 EST I have TOS 3.06...I can't get much of my old ST software to run properly. Chaos Strikes Back and DM will load but come up in TT med and are too small to be playable. Captive won't load at all. Virus runs, but is too fast to be playable...Better dead than alien runs great however... e wells ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 131 Sat Jan 25, 1992 D.ASHTON1 [Stargazer] at 16:32 EST Towns, I'd like to see ANY Psygnosis game run on the TT. I have Awesome, Anarcky, Obliterator, Nitro, Lemmings and Oh no, more Lemmings and NONE of them even boot up. There are no disk directoies on the disks, I don't know what to do with them.... Shadow of the Beast is also collecting dust now.... E.Wells, As a TT030 game player, If you press "Alt" when the power light comes on, then release it when the floppy light comes on, and press another key, the TT will then boot from the floppy that is in the drive. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 132 Tue Jan 28, 1992 G.ANDERSON at 01:37 EST isn't there any way, hardware or software, to 'slow' the TT down to a more usable speed for older games? Most clones run in at least two speeds for software that was poorly written. Gregg ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 133 Tue Jan 28, 1992 GENIELAMP [John Peters] at 14:29 EST Sak, This may be a long shot, but it seems to me that a few years back STart (???) put out a program where you could "set" the speed of the computer. I never saw the program, but the article said it was great for games like Arknoid etc. --= john =-- ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 134 Tue Jan 28, 1992 REALM [Joey] at 18:35 EST Gregg, Have you tried the 24bit program that goes in the Auto folder? I just had time to try a couple things that crashed but they worked after running it. It has to be first in the Auto folder. Possible you could put it in the Auto folder on the games disk. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 135 Wed Jan 29, 1992 H.WOLFE1 at 05:42 EST Gregg, to slow the TT, all you have to do is run the PD program SLO-MO. There is also a program from Antic called NEWSPEED. Harvey ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 136 Sat Feb 01, 1992 F.GORON [Frank] at 19:16 EST Has anyone been able to get NEWSPEED to work on a TT? I've had no luck so far. I've even tried using it with 24bit.prg but still no go. Frank ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 137 Sat Feb 01, 1992 G.ANDERSON at 22:26 EST I'm afraid I still don't have a TT (though I've been thinking seriously about one, but the $$$ is tight right now). I am something of a hardware freak though and try to stay current on all developments... It always helps to know what you're getting into . Gregg ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 138 Wed Feb 05, 1992 J.MEEHAN3 [>> Joe M << ] at 21:32 EST This question may have been asked before, but is GDOS compatable with the TT. If so what version(s). I have version 1.1 and I seem to have a problem or two with it. I get a "can not open workstaion" error message. I have not used GDOS for some time, since I got GPlus+ and I have not used GPlus+ since I got Calamus. I am trying to use LDW POWER and some printouts require GDOS. Any suggestions. BTW just to complicate things, I an useing a DeskJet printer, but I do have the Epson emulator cartridge. Thanks >> Joe Meehan << I will also leave a message in the LDW topic, encase it is a LDW problem. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 139 Thu Feb 06, 1992 M.ANGIER [Mike Angier] at 01:26 EST Joe M: I was never able to get GDOS 1.1 to work on my TT (bomb while loading), but GDOS 1.4 and AMCGDOS 5.0 seem to work fine. With GDOS 1.4, I get the can not open workstation with a Fractal program (here on GEnie) , but it works fine with the AMCGDOS. Later, Mike ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 140 Thu Feb 06, 1992 S.GOLD6 [Atari-SE Rep] at 19:22 EST Joe M: The best bet for you is too pick up a copy og G+Plus 1.5 from CodeHead. It works on the TT! Steve ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 141 Thu Feb 06, 1992 SGUBER at 19:57 EST Joe: FMSGDOS also works well on the TT :-) Sol ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 142 Thu Feb 06, 1992 J.ALLEN27 [FAST TECH] at 21:23 EST Yes, both FSM and GPLUS+ 1.5 work well on the Turbo030 board also. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 143 Fri Feb 07, 1992 M.ABDULKAREE [ASX] at 00:04 EST I am having problems using 1.44 floppies on the PC. When I search the directory DOS says that there are no files. So I used chkdsk and it reported that my two directories had bad definitions or something to that effect. It also reported the "lost" clusters associated with the directories and offered to recover them-- I aborted. I can still read the disk fine on my TT and even read the IBM formatted 1.44 floppies. But the PC's have problems reading my TT formatted disks. And I formatted this particular disk without any boot sectors or etc. What is going on here? And if there is something wrong, can I have the patch program please? By the way NOROACH needs to be updated: since TOS 3.06 boots up in TT medium the icon gets messed up.. and so do some of the autobooting games of pre-TT era. ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 144 Fri Feb 07, 1992 J.EIDSVOOG1 [CodeHead] at 05:17 EST As many have mentioned, G+Plus 1.5 works fine on the TT. But it is my understanding that GDOS works fine too, as long as you make sure your ASSIGN.SYS file contains the extra screen device numbers: 05 screen.sys 06 screen.sys ; TT medium 07 screen.sys 08 screen.sys ; TT high 09 screen.sys ; TT low The TT will crash if you try to come up in (or switch to) any resolution that's not listed. They aren't all needed, but it makes sense to include them. If you're going to use fonts in any of the resolutions, you should copy your list of ST high-res fonts after the appropriate device line. ST high-res fonts work in all of the TT resolutions. John ------------ Category 28, Topic 8 Message 145 Fri Feb 07, 1992 G.RICHARDSO1 [George] at 07:34 EST The only problem I've found with GDOS is that it doesn't seem to run in Fastram. I haven't tried to find out if any other combination than all flags set works though. This applies to the SST as well. George Richardson Merlin Group, Inc. ------------
