HEIDISEEK READ ME FILE ---------------------- This file will generally contain additional information about HeidiSeek which may not be readily apparent without reading the entire text file. ABOUT THE DEMO VERSION ---------------------- o You CANNOT load OR save a HEIDSEEK.DAT file. o You CANNOT save the date. The current date is reset upon exiting. o Double-clicking on one of the first 2 lines in the main black title box will call up the current copyright version panel. v.2.07c ------- Extended filename characters can be added to the right of a filename by holding down the [CONTROL] key while clicking on the "Filename:" line (in file maintenance). The name on this line can also be passed to the folders options by holding down the [CONTROL] key and clicking on the folder option. Due to a peculiarity in GEM, an extra "click" may occur within the fileselector if the selector appears over the HeidiSeek panel. To avert this, select the option with the right mouse button. Extra clicks which occurred during mouse snapping should no longer be a problem. v.2.07b ------- HeidiSeek now employs right-clicks for several menu items. If the mouse cursor switches to a pointing hand, that menu item has either more than one option or is right-click selectable only. If you change a drive path from within a fileselector, your default drives will also be changed. HeidiSeek will also delete the HEIDHOLD storage folder if it is empty. Lastly, the "printer/modem" option toggles printer output ports. V.2.07a ------- HeidiSeek now checks to see if it has enough memory to initialize itself as a desk accessory. If not, an alert will appear when you select it from the accessory menu stating that there was not enough memory available for it to install. This also keeps it from crashing when you try to load it as a MultiDesk Deluxe MDX and the program from which you're calling HeidiSeek has hogged all available memory (ie: GFA Basic). If you wish to use it as an MDX inside such a program, you should set MultiDesk Deluxes "RESERVE" buffer to at least (AT LEAST) 15000 bytes. HeidiSeek needs this memory for its various arrays. NOTE: HeidiSeek sets up ALL of its arrays when it is first loaded. It DOES NOT try to allocate ANY memory after it has been installed. V.2.07 ------ o The thing I wanted to mention here was that I added support for (among other things you'll find in the version history) MultiTos. Specifically the SUPER, GLOBAL, PRIVATE and READ ONLY file attributes. Keep in mind, however, that I DO NOT have MultiTos and have absolutely no idea as to the function of these flags. The "flags" WILL be properly set and will have NO adverse affect on your system if you do not have MultiTos. It's sort of like setting the fastbit. If you have TOS 1.0 or 1.2, your machine will simply ignore them (the flags). o I don't know if this version of GFA (3.5E E) will even work on the Falcon030, but if it does, the "flags" will be functional. o Speaking of flags, you can now set any of the "fastload" flags even if you don't have the machine which supports the feature. Previously you needed AT LEAST the supportive version of TOS. Keep in mind that if your machine doesn't support these "flags" there will be no difference in operation (as compared to when they aren't set). V.2.06b ------- o I KNOW there was a version 2.06b, but I lost ALL text files for it. I believe the only change was a work-around for a bug in TOS 1.2. V.2.06a ------- o File copy/move speed has been increased by 125% ! However, larger files, files in excess of 32000 bytes, will still be copied/moved in 32k blocks (they're still faster than the previous version ! ). This was imposed because of a limitation in TOS which doesn't like it when you try to allocate extra memory from within an accessory. o The files NEODESK.DAT and TRASHCAN.DAT have been removed from within HeidiSeeks internal protection routine. HeidiSeek now only PROtects files which are listed in HEIDSEEK.PRO. If you are using Gribnif Softwares NeoDesk, you REALLY SHOULD list TRASHCAN.DAT within HEIDSEEK.PRO . Deleting this file with HeidiSeek (or ANY program other than NeoDesk) WILL cause serious problems. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SEE ALSO: Section IV c - HEIDSEEK.PROtect file. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - o Normal and System files may now be deleted during a disk search. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SEE ALSO: Section II - Normal/Hidden files. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - o That's it for today !
